"We had a wonderful time at this delightful riverside retreat thanks to our gracious hosts Bob, Ilsa and Tilda the sweet Lab mix. We enjoyed the stay and would highly recommend it. It is a birder's paradise along the Patchouge River. It is a beautiful spot overlooking the river and salt marsh. The place has a real zen quality to it and is bound to leave you as happy and rested as it did us."

"I rented this home for a week with my sister-in-law. We stayed here with our six boys below the age of 8 and my mother. We all LOVED our week in Hawks Nest and wished we could have stayed there for the whole month. This house is the perfect summer cottage - right on the water, easy to keep clean and live in with both older people and a lot of little kids, the great picnic table dining area overlooking the water provided a space for relaxing meals and fun board game competitions, the beds were very comfortable and the sound of the waves outside the windows was divine. The house had all the utensils we needed for making delicious summer meals.
The Hawks Nest community is friendly, welcoming and fun. We met many other families who were also there for the week and everyone had a great time playing together, sharing stories and exploring the beach. The little country store across the street from this home provides daily activities for kids organized by a local college student. The college student who organized the activities the week we were there was GREAT with our kids. She took the kids crabbing and then organized crab races on the beach, organized a morning of making tie-dye t-shirts, taught the kids how to make bubble wands out of pipe cleaners, set up shell painting and arranged for a scientist from Mystic to come teach the kids about ocean life. The scientist brought about 10 different marine animals with him which the kids got to touch. There is also a beach movie night on Thursdays. None of the activities needed to be signed up for in advance so everything was very relaxing. We could just show up when/if we wanted to join the activities and all of the activities were free, so it was like having a summer camp without the hassle of planning and paying huge fees. At the end of the week, the college student organized a talent show for the kids. This was a HUGE highlight for the kids and comical for the parents to watch.
The street is a dead end street. Our kids rode their bikes all around the neighborhood without having to worry about cars.
The beach is rocky so some people might prefer to have water shoes for swimming or wading out into the water. We played in our bare feet and our kids did not use water shoes but I noticed a lot of other people wore water shoes.
Thank you for a wonderful week in Old Lyme!"

"My Family & I (12 of us altogether - mix of little ones, teens and adults) were lucky enough to stay at Suzanne and Dan's place in New London in July 2015. Suzanne met us at the house to give the tour. It was perfect for ALL of us with PLENTY of room and privacy...similar to a mini hotel with all of our own family suites. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc., but if you needed anything, you could go 10 mins down the street to a shop & stop (open 24hrs). Because we were a large group, we cooked out on the grill EVERY NIGHT and had our dinner and drinks on the (very private) deck. I think this was my favorite time : ) chilling at the end of the day before heading down to Ocean beach (2 block walk) for the nightly events. The game room provided a ton of entertainment for the kids (all ages) every night. Mystic is so close (15mins) and for a more wavy beach, we ended up at Misquamicut RI Beach ($20/day) for boogy boarding. Highly recommend it, the only thing we couldn't find for the beach was a sun umbrella-they could have had one, but we didn't bug Suzanne or Dan for one. They had everything else though...towels, chairs, sunscreen, beach toys, etc.
This house is a 5 Star for us - it was perfect in so many ways. Great space, great location, great quiet, friendly neighborhood and neighbors. Someone in another post mentioned ants in the kitchen...yes, we saw a few around the water faucet, (my home is no different) but I don't believe it was about any food that was left-atleast not in our case...it certainly wasn't bothersome or an issue at all (2 or 3 the whole week).
We would DEFINITELY return back here for more morning/nightly walks on the beach, exploring more CT fun and just being able to relax in this wonderful home ; ) TY Suzanne and Dan for hosting our family in New London."

"Very quiet street. Nice for a quiet getaway. Little stuffy when we first arrived but after opening windows for few mins the stuffy smell went away. Very clean I have dust allergies and can't stand places with ton of dust. Had everything that we needed in kitchen. Bedding and beds both very comfortable. Very homey environment! Only suggestion would be adding a mirror to bedroom with couch. We were getting ready for a wedding and could of used a mirror in each bedroom. Within walking distance to Main Street."
