"Wonderful getaway. After a few days we felt like we were at home. We spent 2 weeks and could have stayed on for another 2 weeks. Great location and all the comforts of home. Amazing kitchen and master bedroom with large and fabulous en suite bath.
Owner was very responsive to any requests. Would highly recommend without reservation.
A great 2 weeks!!!!!"

"My husband and I usually stay at an historic inn or a B&B for week-end escapes but this time we decided to try VRBO. I quickly realized most of the search results were for large families or extended families with descriptions of 8-11 bedrooms. For the few that were 1 bedroom rentals, most were lacking in character and had plain white walls and that beige worn out couch condo look. I was about to revert to a B&B site when I came across the listing for Little Wheel cottage. It seemed almost too good to be true but the pictures are indeed accurate. If you are looking for a place that has country charm in a good way, this is it! :) We fell asleep to the sound of the river right outside our bedroom window and in the mornings we enjoyed our coffee on the stone terrace custom built by the little waterfall. One evening before dinner while we were sitting there relaxing, a small raccoon came down from the opposite bank and took a few sips of water.
This is the perfect place to decompress and do nothing. There is a tv in the living room but we enjoyed perusing the coffee table books and just vegging out on the comfy armchair and couch and the bed itself had his/her reading lamps. The kitchen and in fact the whole cottage was impeccably clean and the owner, who could not have been nicer, supplied us with beach towels and chairs for the town beach. While we came at the end of the summer, we could see how this would be a wonderful escape anytime of the year, particularly during fall foliage season because of the beautiful mature trees and the woods surrounding the property.
As for activities, we loved that Lake Waramaug was within walking distance, although it's best to just drive to it if you plan to spend time at the town beach. There is an entry fee but they let you use their kayaks…a highlight of the week-end! We also like to hike and went to Mt. Tom State Park (Washington). This park had a $14 or $15 entry fee but it also had a nice lake and beach for swimming. Another day we hiked Macedonia State Park (Kent) There was no charge to enter but that could have been b/c it was Labor Day and the season was over.
We plan to come back one of these days and would also highly recommend this getaway to friends."

"Our family of 5 plus doggie spent a glorious week here. What an amazing piece of property, and an equally amazing house. Everything was spotless. The kitchen was a delight, so much room. The house itself is very large, there are plenty of places to spread out and relax. The log cabin feel and décor makes you feel instantly welcome. The grounds are park-like, your own private oasis. The owners were very helpful, kind and relaxed people. We took advantage of all Granite Lodge had to offer - from the fire pit [s'mores!], grilling, hot tub and pool. What a pool it was! We have young kids, the pool at the shallowest is 18", and 12 feet at the deepest. Something for everyone. My kids lived in that pool. We even went fishing at the little pond at the entrance. While a bit precarious for little kids, we gave it a try anyway - and we caught some fish! There's a beast of a turtle that lives in the pond too, he came up to say hello. The kids were thrilled. There is space to run around, although we never used the soccer ball we brought with us, the pool was just too big of a temptation. We felt like we were far and away from civilization, but Branford and Guilford are just minutes away. We explored a little bit, there's peach picking, a winery, a fabulous playground at Jacob's Beach. Tried the Chowder Pot based on another's guest's review, it was dynamite and quite reasonable. If you brought all supplies with you, you wouldn't find a reason to leave. But there is a supermarket close by, plus loads of farmers' stands dotted along Route 1. What a beautiful area of Connecticut, we're so delighted we discovered it. Can't wait to come back. Thanks Barbara and Joe!"
