  • Charming cottage get-away

"Was a very nice place to get away - quiet, cozy and close enough to everything. Owner was very accommodating and very pleasant to deal with and we enjoyed ourselves. Thanks so much, Rachel! ;-)"

  • clean,relaxing,comfortable,quiet

"Very nice we had a wonderful time. Most of the homes were up against each other but this home is private. There was a day it rained but there was plenty to do games and movies etc. The property was clean and there was plenty of hot Water since there were 5 adults. The people in the area were friendly and helpful about the surrounding area. I recommend this place to family and those who enjoy the quiet of a 50 + community. It was peaceful and relaxing. There were plenty of areas to walk and there was a crabbing pier"

  • Wonderful Vacation Rental!

"My family has rented this beach house for several years and we absolutely love it!! There is plenty of sleeping space for all of us, we have slept up to 12! The community is quiet and relaxing and just a few minutes from the beach! So close to all of the conveniences- shopping, restuarants, bars, grocery store are all only 5 minutes away. The community pool is also wonderful. Owner's are reliable and honest. House was extremly clean and well maintained. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing week at the beach!"

  • Enjoyable

"This home was like walking into what you imagine your own beach home would look like! The kitchen had everything a cook could think to want .... We had family visit and enjoyed crabs and spaghetti outside on the picnic table and it was not a challenge to prepare in a well stocked - well naturally lit kitchen. Every room is thought out and given a homey feel ! The location was manageable but there is congestion getting to the other beaches so having Cape Henlopen there was the attraction we went to most... Great bike trails ! We will be back ... Thanks Dan and Pam"

Lewes Travel Tips

Lewes Vacation Rentals in the Smallest State

Delaware, as some have stated is “just not that big,” which makes it easy for you to find your perfect Lewes vacation rentals. Other towns in the state include Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, and South Bethany; however, it is Lewes, Delaware, pronounced "Lewis," that provides a heavy draw for tourists each year. Lewes is located in the southern section of the state, just a bit northeast of Georgetown. When you arrive in Lewes, you will see historical brick buildings lining Main Street and the Atlantic Ocean running alongside the town. As a gateway to Delaware’s top attractions, it is also a path to Cape May via a toll ferry.

Lewes Vacation Homes on the Site of the Dutch Settlement

Lewes was founded in 1631 as one of the first American settlements of the state. The founders arrived from Hoorn, Holland, naming their town Zwaanendael meaning "valley of the swans." Their intention was to create the little city just north of Cape Henlopen as an agricultural and whaling town. Unfortunately, the local Indian tribe (Siconese) had other ideas. Within a year, the colony was destroyed by the Native Americans yet the surviving townsfolk rebuilt it. In the War of 1812, the village suffered again but this time due to British attacks on the harbor and beaches. If you are a history buff, you will not want to miss DeVries Monument on Pilottown Road. It commemorates the 1631 Dutch settlement with a monument on the site of the original fort. The town was also home to numerous pilots who guided ships into Delaware Bay, and this history can be examined while at Lewes vacation homes.

Lewes Condos Look at Cape May

Cape May, New Jersey is a popular tourist destination just like Lewes, Delaware. While staying at Lewes condos, you may want to take the ferry ride to Cape May. The trip is 17 miles, taking 80 minutes both ways. The fee is relative to the distance you will be traveling but well worth it. A day trip in Cape May opens up new opportunities for you regarding shops, activities, and restaurants. Of course, Lewes has plenty to offer their visitors in the way of fun if you wish to stay around your condo. Fisherman’s Wharf Cruises bring you out of the inter-coastal waterway to the Atlantic Ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen throughout the year. For whales, you will need to travel to Lewes vacation rentals in late summer and early fall.

Expanding Your Horizons at the Seaside Nature Center

Attractions in Lewes include Fisher Martin House, Lewes Historical Society, Lightship Overfalls, Zwaanendael Museum, many wineries, and the Seaside Nature Center. The nature center is reached by traveling to Cape Henlopen State Park where you will discover numerous large fish aquariums, touch tanks, and other exhibits. The center offers live snakes and turtles and their Seaside Natural Trail. This day trip from Lewes provides a picnicking spot near the historic Fort Miles Gun Park. You can play along the beach to watch for wildlife, hike on the trails for bird-watching, or tour the fort all in one day.

If you head north from Lewes, it is possible to reach another nature preserve, the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. This northern park moves you to Broadkill Beach and Primehook Beach where the land is protected for conservation. At the very top of the park is Slaughter Beach. If you move inland, you will reach grassy land with a few trees and bushes.

Dining and Entertainment by Lewes Vacation Rentals

Renting a home or condo is typically a great choice if you want to dine in and make your own meals out of the fresh seafood you catch. However, Lewes has a few restaurants you might want to check out as well. Agave Tequila Bar and Restaurant brings authentic Mexican to your palate on historic Second Street. There is also Beach House Restaurant where you step back into the past with friendly pricing and fresh seafood.
