  • Wonderful Place

"Perfect location, perfect accommodations. This rental is so cute and so wonderfully thought out. We really enjoyed ourselves and appreciated the fact that dogs were permitted. The canal is so peaceful and the ducks are quite friendly. Enjoyed everything about this rental."

  • home away from home

"This was our third year in a row at the cottage, and we can't wait to go back next summer. The kids came down to visit again, and the grandchildren loved it. They had been talking about going to Delaware for months. The dogs had fun in the ocean, and so did we (at the beach every day...thank you for the great weather). The house has everything you need on vacation, and the neighborhood is quiet. Rose was very helpful. Visited our favorite restaurants again (Parkway Tavern and Patsy's in Bethany Beach, Charlie K's barbecue in Ocean View) and tried a new place that was really good, Northeast Seafood Kitchen. And don't miss going to McCabe's Gourmet Market, they have great food and pastries (try their aged balsamic vinegar). The end of summer peaches and corn in southern Delaware are the best. Too much to see and do in the area, but great for R&R."

  • Family vacation

"After looking for many months for a home large enough for our family (including 6 children under 10, and 8 adults) to reunite for a beach vacation, I was thrilled to discover the D'Light House online. When we arrived, the house was very clean and exactly as the photos reflected. Our family had plenty of room; the kids were excited to discover so many safe places to play; as well as the welcoming basket of toys and games. It truly felt as if we were staying in a home owned by a family member, as Dr. Don could not be more accommodating and welcoming. Our son was happy that he was able to explore the canals with his kayak; all of us fell in love with the beautiful, quiet neighborhood...and of course, the gorgeous beach that was so close by. We loved the town of Bethany and had great take out at Off the Hook. We are looking forward to returning in 2015, as there is still so much more that we can explore!"

South Bethany Beach Travel Tips

South Bethany Beach Vacation Rentals in the Quiet Resort

Just a two-hour drive from Philadelphia International Airport and situated on Coastal Highway 1, the area of South Bethany Beach is known as "the quiet resort." It is also accessed on Route 113 and during summer, this is often the best road to use. As a beach resort, South Bethany Beach condos are most popular during summer but the region benefits from good weather through the fall. South Bethany is in Sussex Country, along the South Delaware coast. It sits between Atlantic City and the Bay.

South Bethany Beach Beach Homes for a Traditional Beach Vacation

Visitors come to South Bethany Beach vacation rentals mainly for the miles of beautiful, quiet beaches. The charm of the area is that it is not like the larger, louder resorts further along the coast, such as Ocean City. Here, the boardwalk is not lined with amusements but the bandstand has regular entertainment and there are the traditional seaside pleasures such as an ice cream, fries or pizza. Children will also enjoy a visit to Viking Golf Theme Park, the Indian River Lifesaving Museum and DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. Along Garfield Parkway, visitors will find a nice selection of boutique shopping. Within a short distance, there are also several nature reserves and state parks.

Plenty of Activities Surround South Bethany Beach Homes

The area surrounding South Bethany Beach beach homes is known for typical water sport activities. Kayaking is a popular sport, with scheduled kayaking trips available in the Delaware Seashore State Park, Assawoman Canal or at Rehoboth Bay. There is also a three-hour tour of the Indian River Bay. On the beach, there are designated areas for surfing and other board sports such as windsurfing and areas for surf fishing. The bay’s shallow water makes it ideal for young children and provides excellent areas for sailboarding and kite surfing. For anglers, there is fishing from the shore, as well as deep sea fishing, or the chance to take a boat out into the bay. The Indian River Inlet is one of the most popular fishing spots. Here, anglers can catch bass, bluefish, flounder and tautog.

For a great day trip from South Bethany Beach, visitors here may enjoy an excursion to Fenwick Island. This is a barrier island between Little Assawoman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. This charming little town is home to Fenwick Island State Park with 344 acres of shoreline and beautiful ocean. It is often referred to as a paradise for fishermen, with both flounder and bluefish among the species to be caught here. The island offers excellent dining and quaint local stores. Further to the north lies Delaware Seashore State Park where visitors will find mile after mile of wide sand dunes and the Fenwick Island Lighthouse. Other excellent trips include Millville, with the nearby Cape Henlopen State Park with its famous "walking dunes." At Clarksville, there is an undiscovered jewel of Holts Laning State Park. This park was once a family farm and now visitors enjoy activities such as bird watching, wildlife viewing, fishing, hiking and crabbing from the pier.
