  • Like staying at a friend's house!

"My family of four (husband, me, 2 college-age children) stayed at Adam's place over the July 4th week, and we never stopped. So coming back to a homey, very comfortable rental with everything we needed and more was fantastic. There is so much room in the house (3 bedrooms, plus 2 large couches downstairs - oh, and 3 full baths. You can't beat that!), and it was really nice to spend time relaxing with the entire family at night after a very busy day on our feet. Adam was the best part. He was reachable any time of day, and so very welcoming. He knows DC like the back of his hand and is very handy with advice about transportation, shopping, eating, etc. We even had a repair problem while we were there (our fault), and Adam had the problem fixed before we came back that evening. My son also left an important book behind, and Adam is sending it to us this weekend. As far as getting in and out of DC -- Adam can direct you via the bus, but we just chose to drive our car to the Metro, which is within a few miles from the house. There is plenty of parking, and there is staff onsite to assist you with tickets. Also, we really liked Silver Spring for dinners, which is a 5-minute drive away, and offers a very family-friendly community square with plenty of restaurants and a movie theater, plus a little shopping (DSW, H&M to mention a few). I would highly recommend Adam's house. Thanks Adam! Sara"

  • Perfect for extended business stay in DC

"The Basement apartment on 8th Street is the ideal base for anyone looking to experience the best of DC for work or pleasure. It is exactly as it appears in the pictures - cosy and comfortable with great features and everything you could need including wifi, digital tv, a well set up kitchen, bathroom with good storage as well as a high quality inflatable mattress for extra guests and even a pack n play for visiting babies/toddlers. The location couldn't be better - visitors will benefit from being a 20 minute walk away from Union Station or 10 mins from Eastern market metro. There are great bus links from the various stops around the immediate vicinity. The neighbourhood couldn't be better - safe and beautiful with fantastic cafes, restaurants and shops and the fantastic atmosphere of Barracks Row. Eastern Market itself is great for fresh produce and the weekend flea market is a delight. On top of this, you're only minutes on foot away from the Supreme Court, Library of Congress and Capitol Building, and, from there, the mall and museums. Kristina is a friendly, efficient and attentive host who has thought of everything -there are guidebooks and maps to borrow, great laundry facilities and even an umbrella to borrow! I highly recommend the apartment as a base for seeing the city and, from the perspective of a lone female traveller on business, as a safe and comfortable home from home."

  • Group of 10 (6 kids, 4 adults)

"We were a bit turned off when we first arrived. Back entrance is a dirty trash can strewn alley, so we went back around and parked on the street (and ignored the back for the rest of our stay). The front street is well maintained and clean throughout the neighborhood. Once inside we realized that the pictures make the house look newer than it is. There is a large poorly patched area on the living room ceiling, there are several stains on that same ceiling and the carpet to the lower level is very stained. All things we could live with but a turn off as you first walk around. The house was very clean and we had the privilege of meeting the cleaning women who was just finishing up when we arrived. She was very friendly and actually took time to go out of her way and let us follow her to a nearby grocery store. The property manager was also very nice to deal with and when we called to ask him to put in the air conditioners (It was the first really warm weekend of the year), he called us back very quickly and showed up early the next morning to take care of it. We also called him with a question about the internet and he was again quick to respond and he did quickly get us the information we needed. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of linens and pillows. Showers were very good (clean), with all the hot water we needed and there were plenty of towels even for 10 of us. Living room/kitchen area is bright, sunny and cheerful in the morning which was a great way to start each day. Neighborhood was very quiet, neighbors were friendly and I felt comfortable enough to take a few early evening strolls on my own. We had a 15 passenger rental van and had no problem parking on the street. The ride back into DC proper was quick and easy. Overall we would recommend this property without reservation."

  • Great Little Home on the Hill

"This was a wonderful experience. The apartment was so homelike and had a nice old feel with the architecture and wood throughout the place. There were 4 of us and no one was in each others' way. Parking was awesome, place was clean. Felt like part of the neighborhood when walking around or shopping. Was there Palm Sunday and enjoyed the music and dress up of the congregation at the Pilgrim Baptist Church. We did have one question about something and Jacqui came right over with an answer and was very gracious. (only concern was my severe allergy to room odorizor which we put outside and opened windows-but about 4 hours later no trace of the smell)."
