  • Serene FL getaway

"My husband and I recently spent three weeks in this charming property. It is very close to shopping and a short drive to downtown. Winter Park offers great shopping, museums, and our favorite----a scenic narrated boat trip of the beautiful lakes and picturesque connecting canals. The house was very cozy but spacious enough to entertain our Winter Park friends. The kitchen is equipped with every gadget imaginable! The back yard is a treasure! We were lucky enough to enjoy everything in bloom. We also enjoyed the pair of cardinals and other birds who came to the feeder. We have rented many homes, but these owners have been the most gracious and thoughtful of our comfort!"

"WE HAD A WONDERFUL STAY IN THIS TOWNHOME. ONLY MINOR ISSUES, LIKE THE LIGHTING, SOME BULBS IN LAMPS WERE OUT. CONTACTED OWNER AND HE SAID HE WOULD FIX THAT ISSUE. I WOULD RECCOMEND STAYING HERE IT WAS VERY NICE AND CONVENIENT TO MANY MANY THINGS, INCLUDING THE DISNEY PARKS. HAD A GREAT STAY!"

  • Family getaway

"Our family really enjoyed our stay at the house. We had 3 adults, and 4 children all fit very comfortably in the house. We were able to do laundry as needed through our week stay. The pool and hot tub were enjoyed as well. We arrived on a weekend that was in the 80s so we didn't need the pool heater, but by Tuesday we wanted the heater turned on. We had to call the maintenance man to turn it on, but he was out at the house before we made it home from Universal studios. We drove down to the house from IL and were worried we'd have to pay tolls everytime we went to a theme park, but that was not the case. Easy access to I-4, and we could get to Disney property in about 20min, Universal was a little farther, and LEGOLAND was about an hour. The house description mentions a nature preserve behind the house so the boys tried to explore it for a path. There are no paths back there, but there's a small lake within walking distance. The neighborhood is a nice quiet neighborhood and this home is on the corner of a cul-de-sac. The only reason this home is not 5 star is the sliding door to the pool was not usable for some reason. So, the kids had to trek through the master bedroom to get in and out. Not really that big of a deal. But another key point was NO coffee pot. We tried to buy one at the corner CVS but they didn't carry any. There's also a grocery store, pizza place, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and Chinese restaurant within 5 min. Other shopping centers are not too far. The kids enjoyed the pool, air hockey, and fuzball table. It was difficult to get them out of the house to go to Disney or any theme park because the house was so wonderful for them! I would add a couple kid fishing poles, coffee pot and fix the sliding door. Great service, great attitude, easy to work with Loved our stay. Thanks for sharing your house."

  • Home from Home

"We recently enjoyed a 2 week stay at this lovely villa. There were 8 of us in total and due to the size and layout of the villa we all had our own privacy and plenty room not to be getting in each others way. All the rooms are a good size, all were very clean and well presented. The pool was a big hit with the kids who loved jumping straight in first thing in the morning!! We used the outdoor tables for dining and there was plenty space for all 8 of us to sit and enjoy our breakfast before heading out for a hectic day round the theme parks. The villa is ideally located for access to all the Disney parks and for getting to Universal. There is a supermarket and petrol station less than 5 minutes away with a good selection of restaurants also within easy driving distance. This villa will always hold special memories for us as we got married in Orlando whilst on this holiday......seems like a good excuse to return to celebrate our anniversaries!"

The Villages Travel Tips

The retirement community of The Villages is located in sunny, central Florida. It is 20 miles south of Ocala and 57 miles northwest of Orlando in Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. This development is home to more than 51,000 people and the fastest-growing micropolitan area in the U.S. as well as the fastest-growing small town.

The Villages' history dates back to the 1960s when Harold Schwartz, a Michigan businessman, sold land to retirees looking to escape to a warmer climate. Today, the descendants of Harold Schwartz and his son H. Gary Morse still control The Villages.

The Villages Attractions

The master-planned retirement community offers several forms of recreational activity. The Villages has numerous golf courses and offers "Free Golf for Life." Thirty-two of the courses are 9-hole layouts while the remaining 10 are country club championship courses. Two additional courses will be 27-hole layouts with a total of 621 holes of golf by the end of a final course build?-out.

Visit the Florida Carriage Museum and Resort and take a step back in time. This museum is home to the largest collection of antique horse-drawn carriages in the U.S. and is one of the largest in the world. There are more than 160 carriages from Europe and America, including the 1850 Ambruster Dress Chariot that once carried Emperor of Austria Franz Joseph and his wife, Elisabeth.

You can do plenty of shopping without leaving The Villages. There are boutiques scattered throughout the town squares, including many of the country's most popular brands. There are also grocery stores, pharmacies and superstores that will help you find everything you need. You can even venture throughout The Villages on your golf cart, the most fun way to travel through a small town.

Things to Do in The Villages

- Recreation: Aside from golf, there are three recreation centers in The Villages. These include neighborhood centers, village centers and regional centers with pools and bocce, horseshoe and shuffleboard courts as well as tennis and pickleball courts. Regional centers feature courts and fitness facilities. Those who have dogs can take their furry friends for outdoor activities at any of the 11 parks, dog parks and trails owned by The Villages.

- Entertainment: There are three town squares in The Villages, including Lake Sumter Landing's Market Square, Spanish Springs Town Square and Brownwood Paddock Square. These town squares feature nightly activities such as live music and a farmer's market. If you want to watch sports rather than participate, you can also catch a game at one of numerous softball fields or The Villages Polo Stadium. There are also opportunities to learn woodworking or take a class at the Lifelong Learning College in The Villages.

- Wineries: Visitors to The Villages can take a tour and enjoy wine tasting at Lakeride Winery and Vineyards. The winery is located in Clermont and is the former center of Florida's grape industry. There is an extensive tasting room with annual festivals and a gift shop. More than 80,000 cases, or more than 960,000 bottles, are produced at Lakeride Winery each year.
