  • Fantastic Family Retreat

"What a fantastic home! Our large family of 12 stayed here for a wonderful Disney/SeaWorld vacation. It is truly just around the corner from these parks. The property is impeccably clean. The playground was awesome, just across the street. The community pool/center is a short walk and was awesome! The community convenience store was the best (they serve ice cream, alcohol, sandwiches, candy, and any extras you may need). They even have live music some nights. Definitely use the movie theatre, the kids LOVED it! The owner was helpful answering all of our questions and responding quickly. The children had a blast swimming, and sleeping in their themed rooms. I am a very POOL SAFETY conscious person and I can assure you that we weren't worried at all with the kids... there is a sturdy safety fence that goes just in front of the pool, the kids cannot get through it unless an adult opens it (but it can be removed when you would like it completely open), there is also a triple lock on the slider leading to the pool that even a 9 year old could not reach. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because we have stayed in 14 other VRBO's over the years and this is the ONLY one that was pretty much bare ... usually there is at least some paper products/trash bags/ dish soap, etc. that have been left by others for your use... Just know going in that there is NOTHING. Also, the kitchen has only the very basic supplies (utensils/cups, etc)... No koozies, kids cups, etc. Also, there was no baby gate as mentioned, the tables in the living room aren't wood as pictured - they are GLASS!! Super dangerous w kids (we removed the tops and placed them behind the couch for our stay). And the biggest ISSUE was the A/C... They are permanently set to 76 during the day and 80 at night... We did contact the owner who changed it for us by only a couple degrees (we are used to 70) and it was HOT the entire time! Just FYI in case. I also wish they would have a few toys for kids there or some board games/cards for adults, you have to bring everything. We all had a fantastic stay otherwise."

  • Lovely 3 bedroom condo, no hidden fees, excellent communication with owner

"I stayed at this 3 bedroom condo for 1 week in March 2014. The rental process was very simple. The owner e-mailed me quickly and gave me a price that included everything so there were no hidden cleaning or resort fees like some listings on VRBO. I made payment through paypal, and the owner e-mailed instructions with photos on how to get to the condo, retrieve the key, connect to the WiFi, and how to work the TV remote control, as well as the telephone number of the local property manager in case I had any problems. The condo was very clean and had everything I needed for my stay. The kitchen had all the pots and pans I needed for cooking meals. There were extra towels and sheets. I really appreciated the computer connected to the internet at the condo with a small computer desk. I was also able to connect my laptop to the WiFi with no issues. There is a small unheated pool very close to the condo, but not close enough that I ever heard any noise from it. There was a larger heated pool a short walk away. The grounds included a small lake that was pretty to walk around and look at the birds and ducks. The condo location is close to a main road (Vine Street or 192) with many restaurants. It took about 20 minutes to get to Universal Studios - this may vary depending on Orlando traffic which can be quite congested at times. (If you are flying, I recommend allowing extra time for driving back to the airport and also for the security check which took 40+ minutes the day I left.) The only issue I had was the windows had vinyl mini blinds but no light blocking curtains. The blinds close tight enough for privacy but not enough to block the bright Florida sunshine in the morning. This was not a deal breaker for me, but light blocking curtains might be a nice addition in the future. This condo is in a good location, was clean, and had everything I needed for my stay. I highly recommend this Venetian Bay Villages condo to anyone looking for a place to stay while in Orlando."

  • Snowbird from Canada enjoying Florida

"This property is exactly as the pictures describe. This is my second time in Highland Reserve and I found this home very clean. I had a couple of minor problems during my 2 month stay which is normal with any home and must say that Tony and the property managers were very efficient and fixed same day (which included a new dishwasher). Email correspondence with Tony was great and I would definately stay here again. I love the golf course and this location is close to Disney and other attractions. Love the privacy of the pool area compared to my last years rental. I love to cook and found this kitchen well stocked with a nice open concept for enjoying conversation while you cook. Would recommend to family and friends. Thanks Tony"

Central/Disney/Orlando Area Travel Tips

Orlando is an idyllic vacation spot for both kids and those who are young at heart. As the mecca for all things Disney, there's a sense of magic here that is sure to bring out your inner child as you play and explore the city.

While images of theme parks galore may the the first thing that comes to mind, there's much more to this Florida city. While they are a big part of making Orlando a destination hotspot, there are also lovely tree-line neighborhoods to stroll through and plenty of history to learn about. Orlando also boasts a thriving performing arts scene so be sure to check out a live musical or theatrical performance during your stay. If the weather is nice, the city provides a variety of gardens and parks to enjoy where you can marvel at the beautiful flora and fauna as you dine on a picnic.

Many visitors head to Orlando between June and August, but it's great to visit year-round. If you live someplace that experiences all four seasons, trade in the dreary, cold days for ones filled with warmth and sunshine. It's lovely in the spring as well, when the flowers are in full bloom and the temperatures aren't climbing too high.

Orlando's Best Theme Parks

- Disney World: Orlando has become synonymous with Disney World - "the happiest place on earth." This is Walt Disney's flagship center of his worldwide theme park empire and the most popular on the globe. It's a magical place that all people no matter their age can enjoy as they experience the wonder, fantasy, excitement and fun of the park. Disney World itself is home to a variety of theme and water parks as well as shopping, entertainment, dining and more.

- Epcot: Travel all around the world without ever leaving Orlando at the Epcot Center. The World Showcase is reminiscent of a permanent world's fair containing 11 different countries including Mexico, China, Norway, Germany, Japan, Italy, America, Morocco, France, Canada and the United Kingdom. Epcot was the second park built at Disney World and spans 300 acres. Experience all sorts of unique cultures and heritages as you explore the park.

- Discovery Cove: If you've ever wanted to swim with dolphins, head to Discovery Cove, where you get the chance to interact with bottlenose dolphins swimming, doing tricks and playing. Afterward, grab some snorkeling equipment and check out the coral reef where you can see thousands of colorful tropical fish, then check out the stingrays and shark tank. The park also features a free-flight aviary with more than 250 tropical birds flying overhead that you can feed and interact with, such as parrots and toucans. The Grand Reef features a sandy white beach with palms lining an island where you'll find underwater grottos filled with moray eels, reef sharks and more tropical fish. Check out the Sea Venture, an underwater walk on the sea floor.

Things to Do in Orlando

- World of Orchids: If you have a green thumb or simply appreciate the beauty of nature, plan a trip to the World of Orchids. In an enclosed tropical rainforest you can see thousands of stunning blooms covering almost an acre. You'll feel as though you've been transported to the Amazon in this natural jungle-like setting featuring streams, waterfalls and even parrots. World of Orchids also boasts a 1,000 foot boardwalk by nearby wetlands.

- Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art: Art lovers and Tiffany enthusiasts will appreciate the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. It's home to the largest collection from Louis Comfort Tiffany, including art glass, lamps, leaded-glass windows, pottery, jewelry, paintings and the chapel interior from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The museum also boasts a huge collection of American art, pottery and representative collections of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century American graphics, decorative arts and paintings.

- The Orlando Museum of Art: Keeping with the art theme, make your way to the Orlando Museum of Art to see ongoing exhibitions and displays of American landscapes and portraits, ancient American works and American impressionist pieces. Throughout the year the museum presents 10 to 12 exhibitions and provides a variety of enrichment programs, gallery tours, lectures, classes and more.

- Mad Cow Theatre: Plan a fun night out at the Mad Cow Theatre, one of Orlando's professional theater companies presenting a variety of works for the stage, including contemporary plays and musicals. Performances like Sunday in the Park with George, Death of a Salesman, Hedda Gabler, Next to Normal, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Our Town, Cinderella and many more have graced the stage here. Enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant then head to the Mad Cow Theatre for a delightful evening filled with live entertainment.
