  • Exceeded Our Expectations!

"Beautiful home, gorgeous views from all the windows. Very clean and well equipped. There were 4 families sharing and we all had plenty of personal space! So close to local attractions and shopping too. We found a great restaurant close to the house...Seagrass Waterfront. Some of the best seafood we've had in a very long time....great service too. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience."

  • Definititely a bit of "old Florida" on the Gulf

"This is a charming and historic beach front place that is slowly disappearing from the Gulf landscape. The places are well kept and unique. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and you feel like you are with family. I take my family here often and we always hate to leave. It is very clean and nicely furnished. The beach is at your front door and there are no high rises in sight. It is centrally located and Indian Rocks Beach is a great walking town with lots of parks and good restaurants. I would recommend Scruggs Harbor to anyone who wants to just get away, enjoy peace and tranquility and have an experience that is becoming more uncommon all the time."

  • Very Comfortable Beach Cottage!

"We had a wonderful stay at the Beach Cottage. It was very clean and has everything you will need. We are a family of 4 and had plenty of room. The back yard is particularly cute; we absolutely loved the enclosed outdoor shower! We appreciated having a phone that we could use to make local calls and even long distance calls to Canada! This was our first time using VRBO/HomeAway and all email/phone correspondence were timely and answered all our questions. This was our third time in this area and the location of the Cottage is perfect; the beach is very close we didn't even need to wear our shoes! Some traveling tips… Dining 1) Mazzaro Coffee & Italian Market – WOW, very large Italian market, that has an amazing selection of fresh made pasta, meats, cheeses and baked goods (amazing cannoli), 20 minute drive away and highly recommend 2) Beach Pizza Plus - very close, call ahead because long wait, recommend their “Beach” & “White” pizza 3) Thai Prajaam – walking distance, we did take out, authentic Thai, medium is very spicy 4) Thai-Am 2 - 10 minute drive, we go for their Wed/Thurs $1 sushi special 5) Salt Creek Grille – 10 minute drive, water view, upscale seafood & steak restaurant, great “happy hour” specials 6) Reef Fresh Fish Market - walking distance, good selection but expensive, recommend homemade fish spread 7) Beach Snowballs – 10 minute drive, highly recommend, not your regular sno-cones, they are shaved ice with homemade syrups, mix between a slushy & ice cream 8) Candy Kitchen – walking distance, great ice cream & candy Sightseeing (not all on this trip but we have done the following) 1) St. Petersburg Chihully Museum – American glass sculptor & his work is amazing, combine with... Glass Studio & Hot Shop – to see a glass blowing demonstration & you can arrange the opportunity to make your own glass piece, a great memory! Salvador Dali Museum – their “new” home is great, recommend doing a guided tour to learn the most 2) Tarpon Springs – cute little “Greek town” on the water, recommend doing the 2 hr boat tour with St. Nicholas Boat Lines, you learn about sponge diving and you should eat at Costas 3) Busch Gardens – hour drive away, not Disney but has good roller coasters and great animals, recommend “feeding the giraffe’s” tour 4) Parasailing – we have used Fly-N-High from John’s Pass, something to try once 5) Pinellas Trail – excellent bike trail Can you tell we love this area of Florida & will be back soon!"

  • First Time Condo Renters - Excellent - Owner Simply Wonderful

"My husband and I rented this beautiful condo the first week of December, 2013. We were a bit nervous to rent a condo online from our home in northern Wisconsin. But from the first communication we had with Mark the owner, we knew we had made the right decision and the right condo! Mark was fantastic from start to finish. All we had to do was show up and have a very relaxing vacation. The condo is located directly on Madeira Beach, which is a wonderful sandy beach. The condo had all the amenities anyone could ask for. The furnishings are very nice. The artwork on the walls is beautiful. The kitchen is absolutely loaded with anything you could need, which was very helpful during our stay. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable and the view from that bedroom is breath taking. There is a full size washer and dryer. There are so many beach items for your use, including beach chairs and tons of sand toys for the kids. This condo is a corner unit so you have stunning views of the beach and ocean from the huge balcony and also from the living room/dining room windows. The pool is one of the nicest pools ever. It is located so that the sun shines on the pool most of the day which is a plus for sun worshippers. And the pool was heated to perfection. We witnessed several spectacular sunsets right from the balcony and also were treated to several dolphin shows in the ocean right in front of the balcony. In fact, one dolphin swam almost up to the shore while my husband was in the water! I could go on and on. But suffice it to say that if we have a chance to rent this particular condo from Mark again, we will not hesitate. And I must tell you that I am very hard to please! Wishing we were back there right now! Thanks Mark for allowing us the opportunity to stay in paradise!"

Florida Central West Travel Tips

Central West Florida’s beaches in this region have an awesome advantage over those on the east side of the state: their Gulf waters are typically calmer and warmer than those on than the Atlantic Ocean side. Here are the top attractions and sights in Central West Florida:

Tampa

Tampa is an excellent place to vacation for both families and couples alike. Here are some of the top things to do and see:

- Tampa is the perfect spot for any animal lover. Head to the small but impressive Lowry Park Zoo, see lions, tigers and other cats at the Big Cat Rescue and check out the endangered gentle giants of the sea at the Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center, which is free of charge. There’s also the gorgeous Florida Aquarium on the edge of downtown Tampa, which houses more than 20,000 animals and plants. Make sure to set aside at least three hours here to see it all!

- For adventure, take a trip to Busch Gardens, which combines Seaworld and other animal exhibits with safari-themed rides. It’s the ultimate family theme park, and many people opt to spend more than one day here. Just across the street from Busch Gardens is Adventure Island, which boasts 30 splendid acres of water rides and pools. Another must-visit if you have the time is Dinosaur World, which is just a 25-minute drive east to Plant City. Here, these prehistoric beasts come to life in a large park and play area, where kids can also take part in a fossil dig.

- Tampa also prides itself on its excellent museums, including the Museum of Science and Industry, housed in an other-worldly building, and the Tampa Museum of Art, which has some great kid-friendly exhibits.

- Adults will love the Henry B. Plant Museum, which is housed in the 1891 Tampa Bay hotel and tells a wonderful story of the Victorian era, with gorgeous antiques in an ornate building. There’s also the antique Tampa Theatre for movies, Lettuce Lake State Park, the Tampa Bay History Center and The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

- Of course, the beaches here are top notch, but don’t miss the lovely Fort De Soto Park’s beach, with an interesting war-time history.

St. Petersburg/Clearwater

St. Petersburg is just southwest of Tampa on the bayside, while Clearwater lies straight west. This area offers award-winning beaches, excellent museums and other perfect amenities for your Florida vacation. Here are some of the best things to do and see in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater areas:

- It’s a rare occasion when St. Petersburg isn’t sunny, so head to some of Florida’s most amazing beaches. St. Pete Beach has been called one of the best in the country. Spend the day on its frosty white beaches, keep an eye out for dolphins and grab lunch at Frenchy’s or The Hurricane restaurants.

- Check out the collection of 50,000 tropical plants on a whopping 4 acres at the lovely Sunken Gardens in the heart of St. Petersburg.

- Take a stroll on The Pier, where you can shop for souvenirs and take a catamaran tour. It’s especially beautiful at night.

- If you can handle a day or morning away from the beach, explore the 245 acres of pure nature at the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve.

- Appreciate the work of a creative genius at the Salvador Dali Museum, which boasts the largest collection of his work outside of Europe. You’ll recognize his tell-tale Surrealist style right away.

- See Winter, the famous dolphin who lost her entire tail in a crab trap when she was only three months old. She learned to adapt and is currently a big celebrity at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

- Hang out on beautiful Clearwater Beach and take a stroll or picnic in Philippe Park in

Clearwater.

Sarasota

Sarasota is about a 45-minute drive south of St. Petersburg. It’s a wonderful place for a Gulf Coast beach trip. Here are the top things to do:

- Siesta Key Beach is known as one of the best in the country. The sand is powdery and glistening and the water is often a deep, gorgeous emerald. It’s perfect for families, as it’s one of the few beaches in the area that doesn’t allow smoking. Also, the gulf waters are warm and calm, so kids can play freely here, and you might even see some frolicking dolphins, adding to Siesta Key Beach’s picture-perfect ambience. If you dare, go parasailing with Siesta Key Parasail & Jetski for a thrilling ride and unmatched views from above.

- Immerse yourself in nature at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, the Sarasota Jungle Gardens and the Mote Marine Laboratory.

- Appreciate the arts at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, housed in an ornate structure, and the palm-shrouded, Mission-style Sarasota Opera House.
