"We rented all three houses for a month in the summer 2014. We go to the Keys every summer, and this was hands down the best place we have stayed. Michelle was fabulous to work with. We get out on the water everyday and this compound is so close to everything, it's easy to zip out and back in if a storm pops up, or come back mid day, relax a few hours and go back out. We saved a ton in boat gas alone! Well equipped houses, fabulous views, beautiful wild life. Great times! Only regret is that everyone that stays there knows how great it is, and there aren't any full months open for next summer! We brought our 29 ft boat and dockage was perfect for it."

"We stayed from June 13th-20th. Due to some flight changes we didn't get in until quite late and had a bit of a hard time finding keys (our fault, not Nikhila's) but the cleaners showed up promptly and got us squared away. There were 9 of us, 7 adults and 2 little kids and the downstairs area was just a bit warm for a bunch of Scandahoovians but the upstairs area was large (great a/c) and well set up that it was not a big deal and we were able to get everybody situated. The freezer part of one of the most impressive fridge/freezers in captivity wasn't working but the small chest freezer was more than capable of accommodating everything. The weather was warm but the ESE winds at 10-15 that had been ongoing for some time made kayaking impossible and pushed a lot of weed up into the western shoreline of Spanish Harbor. That was of no surprise to us and should be an expectation of anyone going to the Keys. This was primarily a fishing trip-centric stay with trips out wide from Whale Harbor and into the back country from KW and the house was a perfect jump off spot for both. The proximity to Bahia-Honda (western beach the best) was great for the kids as well. The pool and the incredibly tame Key Deer visits (including a buck in full velvet) were a highlight for everybody. The fishing off the dock wasn't too shabby either considering the conditions and we came loaded for bear. Tons of pin fish available especially in the AM on sabiki rigs. Evening outgoing tides produced a lot of mangroves including several keepers (1/0 and smaller circles on 25-30 fluoro leaders with 2 oz running barrel sinkers, 12-20 lb main line mono). Lots of 2-3 foot nurse sharks. You will need to chum up pretty hard and de-weed a lot but fish are certainly there. I got wasted a few times by good sized 'cuda even fishing with wire and live baits. Same spot every time, cast directly toward the end of the dock on the left. About 3/4's of the way there seems to be some kind of gut or break in the weeds. I would recommend getting a cheap gaff and some gloves at the Marathon K-Mart to handle the toothy critters along with some cheap needle nosed pliers. I've stayed at a few VRBO places now in the Keys and Hawaii and I believe in terms of price, location and alignment of expectations and reality this is the best value for money I've experienced. If you are bringing or renting a boat in the 12-24' class then I can't think of a better place to use as your base of operations. Thank you Nikhila!!!"

"We just returned from a week's vacation in this beautiful home. It was ideal; perfectly decorated and supplied with every comfort and amenity. We enjoyed kayaking through the water-ways, napping in the hammocks, evenings in the hot tub and breakfast on the screen porch! The location was also perfect - shopping and great restaurants nearby. Spent time with friends in Bahia Honda and visited Key West a few times! I would most certainly recommend this home and hope to return in the future."

BEST EVER!!! A definite 5-Star home and location!!
"We found The Great Escape on Big Pine Key after not finding an acceptable rental on Marathon where we have stayed for the previous 2 years. Wow, were we lucky!! Not only a fabulous home but incredible hosts who made sure we knew everything about the house, the canals and where to put in our boat and locations for snorkeling, fishing and eating!! Bette and Ski had the house PERFECT for us. Just like the other reviews stated, this house was beyond well-equipped with everything from linens, towels, kitchen equipment, porch and yard furnishing, etc. Did I mention the screened porch and easy-accessible dock. So easy to get on and off your boat!! We were here for the month of August and it was HOT, but you are in the Keys' and in the water so it was still great. Because of the warmer than normal water temps, we did have to deal with more jellies than we had seen in the past. We kept vinegar and Benedryl on the boat, just in case. Snorkeling was great in Looe Key and the sanctuary off Little Palm Island. So convenient to get to from the house. Yellow Tails and lobsters were more elusive, but we had a great time trying!! This is a great vacation rental for everyone!!!"
