  • We wish all our rentals were this great !

"We have rented this terrific 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom wonderful place for two years in a row. Unfortunately for us, it is already booked for future winter months, so we are now looking again and just can't find anything available as good as this place for the price. The owner has fully furnished this place from comfortable furniture and beds, to everything you need in the kitchen and modern equipment including tv's, stereo, wine bar, computer, hot tub and all appliances. He is also meticulous about maintaining everything. We are very active seniors, so we are out jogging, kayaking, biking and playing tennis each day. We do have our own kayaks and bikes, but for those of you who don't there are bikes, kayaks and paddleboards for you to enjoy. We love this area and found some of the best food was take out from Low Key Fisheries at mile marker 22.5, where you can buy wonderful fresh conch salad, calamari, coleslaw, smoked fish (my favourite is their smoked fish dip, Scottish salmon and hog fish) and fresh local shrimp (including the Key West Pink Shrimp), crab claws to die for, or cook your own hog fish or grouper (Bob has supplied an excellent barbeque at the house). The other wonderful take out (they also have two little tables if you are biking through and would like to eat there) is Keys Cuisine. They cook wonderful local fresh fish (ask for the basket, skip the bread and go for double home made pineapple slaw). The only two restaurants we really enjoy and frequent in the area are Square Grouper, for finer dining, excellent food and The Wharf, which is very casual, very friendly staff, not exceptional food, but just fine. We are sorry we aren't able to return, but hope you will be able to and we know Bob will take great care of you. The only thing we would caution people about is that it is not good for people with physical disabilities as it is one high flight of stairs and no elevator."

  • Very nice place for the price would like to have rated as 4.5 stars

"My wife and I booked a full week for her birthday and were lucky enough to find that there was a discount at the time so the house was a bargain. We had originally looked at much bigger places (that would have cost twice as much) with the hopes that two other couples would be coming, but those plans fell through and a private getaway was what we really needed so this was perfect. Since Jan's place is oceanfront and a 2 bedroom 2 bath we had extra room that also over looked the water if we had needed it. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were very nice with lots of closet and drawer space, good water pressure, and no problems with anything. Overall the house is nice and there is everything you could need already there (except food of course) the bed is very comfortable, the kitchen and washer dryer were like new and made the trip like being at home. The views are wonderful and the location is a short drive to nice restaurants and Key West. The one limitation that Jan did clarify for me before we booked was the low head clearance to launch a boat from the "on property" boat ramp (.25 star deduction). Due to the fact that our boat is a 25 foot ocean boat with a hard top and a 9ft beam it was too tall and almost to wide to fit under the house so we used a ramp about 3 miles away that only cost $10 for in/out service. The empty trailer's guide posts just made it between the concrete stilts and we were able to park it out of the way under the house. I would love to come down again and explore the outer reefs more as the 45ft to 80ft drop off was a beautiful mini wall that we only found on our last dive day before the weather got bad. There are friendly neighbors, a Winn Dixie on Big Pine, with prices the same as in Orlando, about 10 minutes away, fresh seafood markets, marine flea markets, seafood festivals, and nice sunrise and sunset views. January weather is cool & breezy, the drive time out to the outer reef is very short once you get around to the channel, and you are about 6 miles north of Looe Key when you hit the open water past the last set of channel markers. The price for gas or diesel in Marathon was cheaper than anywhere in South Florida so fill up as you are passing through on the way down. During our week there was road construction to widen US1 underway, the road was never blocked but traffic was diverted a few times and the power blinked off for a few minutes several times (should be completed as of now but .25 star deduction)."

  • FABTABULOUS...in the words or our teenagers!

"To say this was a great house and a great location would be an understatement. Words could not describe how accommodating, well maintained, supplied, relaxing, beautiful and centrally located this home is. We traveled with three teenage daughters and they were even impressed (which we all know how hard it is to impress teens). From early morning coffee on the balcony, all day fishing excursions (bringing your own boat is a major plus, but I have heard there is a great rental place nearby), fishing from the dock, then relaxing with a cocktail in the evening while grilling our catch of the day...everything was perfect!!! We spent a couple days exploring the surrounding islands and Key West was only a 30 minute drive...this is a GREAT location. The owners were by far the easiest we have ever dealt with in the Keys. You will not be disappointed in the home. Thank you for sharing this home. P.S. the review is a little late in the making only because I didn't realize I forgot to do it last year and only remembered because I wanted to book again this year :-) I hope my dates are available!"

  • Perfection

"Our stay here was simply amazing! We had 7 adults and 5 children, there was more than enough room for all of us day & night; never one time did we feel as though we were cramped or tripping over each other. The two living areas was perfect to allow the children to play and watch tv while the adults enjoyed the upper living room. The home is beautifully decorated and maintained, the pride of the owners and caretaker is easily visible. We compared staying in the home as though we had our own private resort because thats exactky what it felt like! The kitchen is well stocked, plenty of linens, 2 laundry rooms, and the beds comfortable. The outside is a haven! Well manicured and spacious, it made for great playtime for the kids and a relaxing oasis for the adults! We even made homemade lemonade from the lemons growing on the trees out back, yum! We will definitely be returning guests!"
