  • Perfect middle keys home for 3-generation family

"This canal-side house was perfect for our 3-generation family’s visit to the Keys. The dining and living room furniture are just what we needed, the beds are comfortable and we prepared breakfast and nice dinners for six nights in the very adequate kitchen. The tree-shaded deck is attractive, and great in the mornings and cooled off by dinnertime. The outdoor shower is a great addition for washing off diving/snorkeling equipment. We spent every day on “adventures,” visiting the turtle hospital, the dolphin place, Long Key with a ranger, Sombrero Reef (even the six-year-old snorkeled, while his four-year-old brother was on a small raft with a window), and Bahia Honda State Park. We kayaked the canals and both the bay and the Atlantic near Key Colony. Then each late afternoon we happily swam in the ocean and made sand castles on the shore at the Cabana Club, and then retreated to the warm water of the swimming pool there. Evening walks included checking up on the burrowing owls, and singing and drawing in the sand at Sunset Beach with other happy Key Colony residents. Later night walks revealed incredibly starry skies. It seemed that most Key Colony folks were out walking and on bikes in the mornings and by about 6:00 each evening. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for shuffleboard, bocce and paddle ball in the park (equipment is available, free, at the 9-hole golf course), so two small grandsons are hoping for a return another year. We all felt the week was perfect. There were a few small housekeeping glitches with the realty/cleaning company, but they were soon solved after we contacted them. The company also passed word on to the owner, who is a lovely woman, so she was totally informed. This is an owner you can feel comfortable renting from."

  • Awesome Vacation!

"Thank you, Heather and Eric, for your beautiful house! I have always had good luck through vrbo.com and again, I wasn't disappointed. My brother, my 2 kids (18 years old) and I spent a week in Marathon at this great house. My Dad and his lady friend stayed on their boat at Harbour Cay Club, about 7 miles away. The location of this house was perfect and the 2 bikes in the garage were an added bonus! We were visited on day 1 by a manatee and gave him/her a drink of water (although we found out later that we shouldn't have...sorry!). One night we had a parade of Christmas-light boats and it was very festive. There was plenty of room in the house for the 4 of us (and my parents when they came over for dinner), the beds were comfortable, the towels were plentiful, the back patio was perfect for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening. I have nothing but positives about this place...and what a bargain! Thanks again and we hope to be back next year."
