  • Wonderful, peaceful, tranquil, well-furnished vacation rental!

"I had an absolutely lovely stay. The house was in immaculate condition with three lovely bedrooms and 2 baths around a large central room. The screened porch was fabulous and gave direct views out over the bay. The sunsets are beyond compare. The setting is quiet, peaceful and far removed from the typical Florida crowds and high rises. Local beaches, state parks, wildlife preserves and state and national forests provide miles of beautiful scenery and hiking, biking, water activity opportunities and seafood galore. The owner quickly responded to all my queries, was friendly, professional and easy to deal with. Carabelle and Carabelle Beach are great spots. Appalachicola is an absolutely adorable town with lovely restaurants, artist stores, and a quaint downtown. It's about 50 minutes away. The drive there is breathtakingly beautiful, directly alongside the water for many long stretches with no houses to block the view. St. George island and its state park, along with St. Joe and the St. Joe Peninsula, also offer unbeatable scenery as well as restaurants, etc. And nearby Alligator Point is another lovely drive and offers more miles of empty beaches (note - don't expect concession stands!) I was looking for seclusion and natural beauty, not nightlife and highrises, so this vacation rental exactly met my needs. Plenty of places to rent kayaks, miles of virtually empty beaches, birdlife, and biking. There's a bike path right outside the front door that goes about 3 miles down to the beach and small wildlife preserve at the end of the road. Then there's another 9-10 mile bike path through a quiet wooded stretch to the tiny town of Sopchoppy."

  • Truly a "Clam Good Time"

"Spent a wonderful week in this paradise! Physically, the unit was clean and very comfortable. Plenty of pots and pans and glasses and dishes, etc.. for every need. The view is spectacular! In addition to the water and palm trees, we saw a wide variety of tropical birds daily, and most days we spotted dolphins fishing right by the dock - an awesome experience. We rented kayaks from a very nice and helpful local guy (Cedar Key Paddling), and paddled around a lot, especially enjoying a jaunt across to Atsena Okie - worth the visit! The condo is located close enough to the "down town" area that we were able to walk to dinner on the nights we didn't cook in. We found Steamers to be our favorite restaurant. Although we didn't have ours with us, it was nice to see so many dog-friendly places around Cedar Key. If I have to nit-pick...we're king-sized bed people, so the queen in the master bedroom was a bit cramped for us (but we knew what we were getting when we rented)! The pool area is beautiful, but it could use to be heated. The hot tub, however, was lovely. If you plan on eating in, you might consider shopping at a grocery store prior to arriving. While the Market has the essentials, the selection of fresh fruits, veggies, and meat was not the greatest. The stand next to the Marathon gas station, however, has lots of good fresh stuff, but was only open Thurs - Sunday. A ride 10 miles back on Rt. 24 to Richardson's Seafood Market is worth it if you want fresh fish - try the grouper filets! All-in-all this was one of the best places we've ever stayed - thanks to the owners for sharing!!!"

  • Great Place for families

"The only reason why i did not give this place a 5 star rating is because the house was really stuffy when we went there. It started clearing towards the end of our stay. All the closets smelled moldy as well. They just needed to be aired out. Other than this issue the place is great for family vacations. It's right on the river and it's very relaxing. Tara, the property manager, is really courteous and nice:) I would definitely recommend this place if you don't have any family members who are allergic to mold."

  • Perfect, perfect, perfect!

"What can I say? The location was perfect, the house was perfect, the weather was perfect, and Cedar Key was perfect. There were only two of us, but the house would have slept 5 comfortably. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was nicely stocked, there is even a brand new top of the line washer and dryer. The "Dove Cottage" is an appropriate name because the house is literally in the trees and we had a pair of resident doves visit several times per day. We spent hours on the dock, crabbing(yes, we did catch blue crab!!!), fishing, and just plain ole relaxing with a good book. We rode our bikes around the entire island and loved the waterfront. We ate at Steamers, Carlin's, and Annie's and all were yummy. Sandy's Produce Stand was great for shrimp, crab cakes, crab dip, and fresh vegetables. This is one of the few times I have come back from a vacation totally relaxed. Thanks for everything, Maureen and Mike."
