It is surrounded by the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge which has extensive colonies of nesting birds including roseate spoonbills, pelicans, skimmers, storks and other shore birds. The small streets around the docks have many restaurants and art and craft shops, and the artists are happy to chat with visitors about their work and what brought them to this lovely area.

North Florida is within easy driving distance from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and further afield. North Florida Weather

The climate is warm and sunny for most of the year but winters do have chilly spells with overnight temperatures below freezing. Winters are mostly dry with average daytime temperatures around 20 C (68 F) while summers reach a hot and humid 31 C (90 F) during July and August. These months also get the most rainfall in short but heavy afternoon showers.
