"I'm not sure if my family and I stayed at the same house as the last reviewer, because we were VERY pleased with this rental! Yes, the house is older, and is showing a little age - but it was clean, well-stocked with all essentials, a PERFECT location, beautiful views, huge, and, you could tell, well-loved. The owners are so easy to work with, too - very friendly and helpful! First of all, let me say, this house is directly on the beach, oceanfront - so yes, there will be a little "weathering" with the sea salt, sea spray, winds, etc. - however, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the deck furniture - it just looks worn, but it is sturdy, and served us well all week! We didn't get a single splinter from the deck, and we (all 7 of us!) went barefoot all week, back and forth to the beach, many times a day. How convenient it was to be right on the beach, and not have to be way up in a condo, carrying all of our beach stuff for a mile down the elevators, across the pool area, and across the sand! We actually tied our tent to the deck moorings and left everything out on the beach all week - it was wonderful! The grass in the yard is thick and lush, great for kids or furry friends. There was more than enough room for all 7 of us - 5 adults and two toddlers - in fact, there was still an extra bed in the upstairs apartment. And, the beds slept wonderfully - very comfy, and even though you are on a main road, the house was very quiet, since it is more oriented toward the beach. There was a charcoal grill for grilling out, an extremely nice washer and dryer in the garage, and an extra ice machine, which was a life-saver! Even though we took our own beach goodies (chairs, toys, etc), there are a lot of these items in the garage. The only minor complaint that I might have, and again, you are on the beach, is that there is a slight dampness problem with the house - but, I know this is just a common problem with the high humidity in Florida! We simply tossed our towels in the dryer, and voila' - problem solved! Drive 5 miles south, and you enter St. Augustine, with shopping, putt-putt, and wonderful places to eat - about 2 miles down the road is Cap's on the Water, a great, highly recommended restaurant. And, 15-20 minutes north is Jacksonville - you just about cannot ask for a better location! I would definitely recommend this home for large families, with kids, or with pets - it is well worth it!"

  • Ladies Retreat

"We planned a women's retreat to the beach and we were really pleased with this property. I have rented at other locations so I was familiar with VRBO and Homeaway properties. Owner responded quickly upon request as we were flexible on location. They provided clear instructions and information about the property. The entry procedures were very clear and simple. The beach was nice and quiet just liked we hoped. The updated kitchen made it lovely to hang out and retreat from our families among some home cooked food and a beautiful sunset for our first night. The kitchen is well stocked. But we ran out of dishwashing liquid by Sunday morning. The property was equipped with plenty of dishes and toys. This would also be a great place for families with multiple ages or generations because of the multilevel entertainment plus outside locations for hanging out. They also had a few movies, books and games for different ages. The owner arrived at check out and was willing to share some of the history of the property upon my prompting. We ran out of toilet paper on Sunday morning so the owner was very receptive about the toilet paper and promptly unlocked special closet for our pit stops before heading home! LOL The cleaning lady arrived promptly at 10 so she said they would run the dishwasher. One downside is the busy street that the house was on. It made it difficult to turn into the driveway. But most windows face the ocean. But bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Beds were very comfortable and they was plenty of bedding. If you want to eat out, go early or be prepared to wait. We went off season and the shortest wait for all restaurants within 30 minutes was 45 minutes. But Aunt Kate's was worth it. I would come back with family or friends and would definitely recommend the owner."

  • Thanksgiving Trip

"Ashley House was perfect for us, a family of 4, when we came down for a big family reunion around Thanksgiving. It has a great location and is well-equipped for whatever you need. You can definitely hear the traffic from A1A but that's the same for any of the houses in this area. Overall, very good!"

  • Pirates Paradise Beach House

"We were very pleased with the size of the rooms which offered plenty of space for our party of 10 adults. Unfortunately, the rooms desperately needed a fresh coat of paint. Many of the walls were scuffed and marked and needed cleaning as well as painting. I would only recommend the property if these improvements were made."
