  • PERFECTION!!!!

"The Mermaid Cottage is the PERFECT vacation spot! Our family (including our three dogs) had the best time ever. We have been to St. Augustine several times, but this was, by far, our favorite place to stay. The location is great- you can hear the ocean while sitting on any if the pitches, the neighborhood is quiet, and it is a great place to go for a morning run. Everyone was really friendly, and we were made to feel right at home. The beach bikes are a definite plus, and we truly had fun exploring the beach on two wheels. Deborah and George are so easy to work with! They made the whole process so easy, and they even called to check on us during our stay. The house is beautiful, the accommodations are amazing, and I would recommend a stay there for anyone who wants to have a great vacation. We cannot wait to go back this summer!"

  • Fantastic location, perfect beach cottage

"We loved our stay at Surfside! We arrived for Thanksgiving and the house was spacious and well equipped for holiday cooking. It is very clean and well laid out. It is a very short walk across the street to the ocean, so close you can hear it at night as you fall to sleep. The big enclosed front porch is a great place for kids to play and to read the paper and have coffee in the morning. The location of this house cannot be beat. You can take the side streets and take a short walk South to Publix and all of the restaurants in the Villano Town Center. There is a beautiful cedar boardwalk under the Vilano Beach bridge. If you walk one block northwest of the property, there is an adorable dog park, tennis courts and playground for kids. The house has beach chairs and toys stocked and ready and a big side yard for kids to play. We will definitely stay there again! Loved the entire weekend and Kendra was very responsive and friendly!"

  • Gorgeous historic condo in great area

"Our family stayed at this condo for a vacation and loved it. It is conveniently located to Memorial Park and historic Avondale and the Saturday Farmers Market under the bridge. It is within walking distance to Publix, Black Sheep Restaurant, and the Cummer Museum. The place was so spacious that we hosted a dinner for some local friends so we could visit over a good meal without going out to eat in a crowded restaurant. Catering by Liz at Bottega did a great job preparing the meal for our dinner party. The owner was very responsive to our needs and apologized for some construction noise that started early one morning. He offered a gift card to BBs where we enjoyed a delicious brunch. I also highly recommend Biscottis and Brick Restaurants in Avondale (about 2 miles away). If you have a large group and want to stay in an historic, hipster area, this place is perfect!"

Florida North East Travel Tips

Northeast Florida Vacation Rentals for Your Next Trip

Northeast Florida has some of the oldest settlements in the United States. Discovered by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513, both the Spanish and French established settlements in northeast Florida. With the advent of the Florida East Coast Railroad by William Henry Flagler in the late 19th century, the advantages of the area as a winter resort became more apparent. Nicknamed the “Sunshine State,” it is a popular vacation destination for families, couples, snowbirds escaping the northern states for the winter, and spring breaker travelers. Nowadays, St. Augustine, Amelia Island, Jacksonville and Daytona Beach are some of the most popular vacation destinations in the U.S.

Choose Your own Northeast Florida Vacation Rentals

The coastline of northeast Florida is lined with oceanfront condos and apartments offering fantastic vacation rentals right on the beach. Condos often have their own private balcony, a sun terrace and shared swimming pool overlooking the beach. The convenience of having these amenities and sun loungers just steps from your lodging makes good sense. Within your own vacation rental unit, the well-equipped kitchen can be stocked with cold drinks and snacks, helping to save you money during the vacation. Older children can come and go to the beach and pool as they please and everyone has their own bedroom space. A vacation rental usually works out to be much cheaper than a hotel, especially for a family. Couples can opt for a smaller unit or may share the space (and cost!) with friends. Those requiring a special diet will find the convenience of a vacation rental home a great advantage. Best of all, condo rentals are comfortably furnished to a high standard with every convenience in the kitchen from a washer/dryer unit to a dishwasher.

Things to do Near Northeast Florida Condos

Northeast Florida has plenty of things to see and do including the usual beach pursuits of surfing, metal detecting, sunbathing and fishing. Jet skis, windsurfing and bird-watching are popular pursuits. Visitors can also take a boat trip along the quieter Intracoastal Waterway. The area has plenty of museums, including the Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in St. Augustine, lighthouses, national parks, golf courses and excellent shopping malls. Cycling and walking along the firm sands and boardwalks are popular ways to see the area. Art-lovers will enjoy a visit to the Cummer Museum of Art which has a fine collection of Japanese prints and 19th-century artwork in this beautiful mansion. There are also several botanical gardens in the area.

Getting to Northeast Florida Resorts

Many people drive to Northeast Florida. Those choosing to fly will find Jacksonville International Airport the nearest major airport to this area. It is just 16 miles from Amelia City lodging, 22 miles from the Jacksonville beach rentals and within easy driving distance of St. Augustine and Daytona Beach.

Neighborhoods to Visit From Northeast Florida Resorts

Amelia Island has some of the best beaches and sand dunes in Florida. It has the Fort Clinch State Park with a historic Civil War fort and plenty of shops and restaurants. Jacksonville has miles of beautiful sandy beaches along the barrier island and Atlantic Beach is a favorite with surfers. A little further down the coast from Jacksonville is St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city, founded in 1565. It has beautiful Spanish-style architecture and the oldest wooden school house in the U.S., in a replica village of the original settlement. Daytona Beach is home to Speedway Racing since cars first raced along the firm sands in 1902. Cape Canaveral is home to the Kennedy Space Center and offers a great day out. If you are really lucky, there may be a space shuttle launch during your stay.

Weather in Northeast Florida

The northeast coast of Florida enjoys some of the best weather all year with sea breezes making the 90-degree Fahrenheit (32 C) summer highs more bearable. Winter daytime highs are around 67 degrees Fahrenheit (20 C) and the rainiest months are from June to September when short afternoon showers are likely.
