  • Couldn't have been more satisfied !!!

"I'll start off by saying that I must have looked at well over 100 condos on VRBO when planning our trip. I narrowed it down to Okaloosa Island based on the slightly lower prices and less crowded beaches than in Destin proper. I chose Destin West because of the amenities like the lazy river area, large gulfside pool, and access to the Ramada next door - also its close proximity to the Okaloosa Fishing Pier. It came down to a penthouse with a rooftop deck and grill on the bay side and this unit on the gulf side. We are so glad we chose this one! The unit was spotless and just as advertised. My wife and I stayed in the large master bedroom, our two 21yr old girls stayed in the bunk room (with their own bathroom), and our 13yr old son slept on the pull out sofa. It worked out great. We had everything we needed. The view from the balcony was terrific. We were right above the pool so we could see the kids while swimming and hanging in the giant hot tub. The view of the ocean was awesome as well. The unit is right by the steps and elevator to the pool, the trash chute, and parking garage (so loading and unloading was very easy). The grocery store was maybe a mile away right across the Ft. Walton bridge, and a Tom Thumb store was right across the street for ice and beer, nice! We spent a fair amount of time at the pier fishing and hanging out at the beachside restaurants. In fact when we first arrived early Saturday morning we had breakfast at Angler's on the pier and saw 2 sea turtles just cruising around right off the beach. We caught plenty of fish there as well. One evening we caught 2 dozen Hardtails in less than 2 hours - my son was digging that! We also really liked the tiki bar on the beach at the Ramada. Pretty cool to walk off the beach for a frozen drink and watch one of the USA World Cup soccer matches. But I think the absolute coolest thing was one afternoon while sitting on the beach in our dedicated chairs (the free beach service that is included in the rental) a pod of dolphins swam by. So I swam out maybe 100yds and for a few minutes had 2 adult and 1 baby dolphins swimming circles around me! How cool is that? Thanks for setting that up for me Lee Ann...:) Looks like I'm running out of room so I guess I can't tell you about all the restaurants we really liked, but check out Bochamps Seafood & Oyster Bar on a Thursday night for the fireworks!!! Thanks so much Lee Ann. We will most certainly be back !!!"
