  • Just like home, only better Part 2

"This was the second time staying at Dolphin Watch, and it was just as good as the first time, which was a year ago. We took another couple with us and stayed on the main level this time. Such a beautiful, comfortable home! There is an elevator, and so either level is great. We enjoyed having the laundry room on the first level though. I absolutely love that area! So much to see and do, if you like nature activities. I highly recommend Wakulla Springs. The Dolphin Watch House is in a great location. Very peaceful and a great view!"

  • Nice place to get away

"Wonderful location on Okaloosa Island. The condo was clean and well appointed - but it could use a little TLC - patio screen door difficult to open; shower door difficult to open; closet door difficult to open (I'm guessing a combination of age and humidity); rust spots on fridge; visible dust on kitchen wallpaper border. Beach chair rental was not included - which was disappointing. A nice property"

  • Wonderful Sand & Sea Vacation

"Sunset Dreamer was my first condo experience, and I was not disappointed. I wanted something close to the beach and with a view, but also something that didn't have the typical hotel/condo feel (a place that felt more like a home-but was also a decent price). The condo was amazing. It felt spacious and very clean. I absolutely loved the decor, and it came packed with almost everything we would need. The views were lovely, and being on the top floor came with the advantage of not hearing much of anything from the other residents. We did not use the bunk beds, but I did test 1 to see how it felt, I figure it would be perfect for just about anyone that didn't care for/need their own room. I did not use the pool, but it appeared well cared for and was a moderate size. The access to the beach was super close and I really loved the beach service. The two chairs and umbrella offerings were set up early in the morning, so you could go out claim your spot and feel comfortable leaving towels to hold it (which is something my parents also loved). A few big elements for me was the room separation and technology offerings. Having one room by itself on the top floor and another on the bottom allowed for undisturbed sleeping at night (instead of hearing every time someone got up for a late night snack). Also, the flat screen TV with access to Netflix and Amazon, plus plentiful wifi access throughout the condo was a pleasure for sure. They do have places to smoke outside, on the ground level (I'm guessing outside particular smoking condos?). Which was a bit of a bummer seeing at times I had to walk through the cloud of smoke to get to my car or head out to the beach if people were smoking. I know its outside and not as severe as being indoors, but with my smoke allergies I prefer when the smoking areas are a greater distance from common used walkways/areas, or nonexistent. On a pleasant note, when I found this location I was a bit worried about the beach view, due to conflicting photos posted with the listing. One was a map with what appears to be another condo that would block my view and the other were photos that showed an unobstructed view. Thankfully I think the map is an older one, because there was no obstructing view, instead its a wonderful ocean view with a few palms tossed in for that beach feeling. Overall, it was a wonderful experience enjoyed by both me and my parents. I would definitely love to use this condo again for future Island stays."

Florida Main North West Travel Tips

Northwest Florida, aka the Florida Panhandle, is known for its stellar white sand beaches and glowing blue-green waters. The beaches of northwest Florida provide the area's most popular attractions for visitors. Surrounding the surf and sand are a variety of parks, restaurants and shops. Within this region is the Emerald Coast that runs from Pensacola to Port St. Joe, and the Forgotten Coast that runs from Mexico Beach to St. Marks.

Things to Do in Northwest Florida

National Museum of Naval Aviation: Anyone interested in space travel is sure to enjoy the rich history found here. With more than 140 restored aircraft from the Navy, Coast Guard Aviation and Marine Corps, this space offers plenty to explore. Watch a live Blue Angels flight demonstration, experience flight and motion-based simulators and learn about the interior of a cockpit.

Gulf World Marine Park: Tons of family fun can be had at Gulf World Marine Park. With the park's dolphin, scuba, sea lion and tropical bird shows, visitors can see these local animals up close and personal performing entertaining and amazing tricks and feats. As you stroll though, don’t miss Tropical Gardens, where you can pet a live string ray and visit the exhibits of otters, iguanas, alligators and penguins.

Panhandle Butterfly House: Along U.S. Highway 98 you’ll find the Navarre Visitor Center, and at the foot of the beach bridge is an interactive butterfly garden that’s home to migrating butterflies and a nursery housing local butterfly species. The facility is operated by volunteers, and visitors can take a class to learn about butterfly gardening, ecosystem management and habitat conservation. Step inside and witness dozens of types of butterflies flying around. These colorful, winged creations are certainly a sight to see.

Mission San Luis: This exciting northwestern Florida attraction is a popular living history park. More than 60 acres rest on a quiet oasis away from city living. As you walk through the park you’ll feel as though you’ve gone back in time. Examine the exhibit gallery and museum in the visitor center, which houses artifacts both excavated and from private collections. The theater produces live entertainment and a classroom offers workshops and special events. If you visit on Sunday, take an Archeology Tour to learn how the site’s been excavated and how artifacts are preserved.

Panhandle Opry: To get a taste of some good ol’ fashioned country western music, check out the Panhandle Opry on the first and third Saturday of each month. A collection of musical artists gets together to put on a traditional show for visitors who love the genre.

Pensacola Museum of Art: Situated in Pensacola’s historic Old City Jail Building, this public institution encourages creativity in visual arts with 18 annual exhibitions, workshops, lectures and films.

Best Beaches of Northwest Florida

Santa Rosa Beach: Santa Rosa Beach was founded in 1910 and was the start of South Walton as its known today. Surrounding this sandy area are luxurious beach houses, a unique artist colony and plenty of upscale dining. Follow up a day of sun and surf with an elegant evening out, complete with fine dining and plenty of culture.

Pensacola Beach: Famously known for pearly white sand and stunningly green waters, Pensacola Beach is certainly one to put on the must-see list. There are endless opportunities for both fun and relaxation here. Stroll down Pensacola Beach Pier or set up your rod for a morning of fishing. Stake your claim on the beach itself for some quality time with loved ones in the sun before grabbing a lunch of fresh seafood at a nearby eatery.

Topsail Hill State Preserve: At Topsail Hill you’ll find amazing natural features, including 3.2 miles of secluded sandy beaches and dunes rising more than 25 feet tall. The state preserve offers and excellent location for an afternoon of fishing off the shore or hiking through the trees while on the lookout for local birds. Of course, there’s the beach itself, where you can soak up some rays, build an epic sand castle or have a swimming race.
