"Shady Palms brings you back to old style Florida, before condos and high rises took over the beaches. This 50's ranch house is surprisingly spacious, with multiple living areas and large bedrooms and an updated big kitchen. There are many wonderfully quirky decorator touches, including an impressive wall-sized collection of seashells. It is fully equipped with all the kitchen items you could want including a new fridge and good kitchen appliances, plus a new washer and dryer and two outdoor showers for rinsing off the sand and salt.
The real draw at Shady Palms is that not only is it directly on the beach, but it features a deep and shady backyard with full gulf views - a real rarity. You no longer have to choose between broiling on the beach or being inside! We spent nearly all of our time either in the gulf waters or sitting in the breezy, cool back yard watching the waves.
The beach is medium wide, with soft sand. The gulf water is shallow and wonderful. There are two(!) beach restaurants within an easy beach walk.
The house is also conveniently located in Holmes Beach, with several good restaurants and stores within walking distance. A large grocery store and countless restaurants are within just a couple of miles drive.
There is public beach access nearby, and a series of condo complexes just north. During the week after Labor Day the beach was very quiet and nearly empty - no crowds or loud music.
The home is very comfortable and has everything you need, including several picnic tables in the yard, a hammock, many many outdoor chairs and tables and beach lounge chairs. On the downside, contrary to the property description, the home has not been totally remodeled. The interior of the home is old and needs a facelift and some TLC, same with items like towels, bed linens and covers. Although advertised as 1.5 baths, the half bath is located in the garage, requiring you to walk through a not-tidy garage to use it. It would however come in handy if you need the facilities from the beach and don't want to enter the house while wet and sandy :-)
The owner, Cindy, is everything you could hope for in a property owner - attentive, caring and considerate. She made the experience very easy and was lovely.
Everything considered, I would recommend Shady Palms to anyone who wants a private, old Florida get away. The shady yard and lovely gulf view are worth the rental. I would rent it again."
