  • The Best!

"Best vacation ever!! (or at least it came close for me). The condo is beautiful and well equipped. The location is outstanding. Beautiful views!! The weather was perfect (mid 80's and sunny all week). Saw dolphins and manatees every day. I was nervous about going Easter week - I thought it might be too crowded but we practically had the beach to ourselves. I can't wait to return. I recommend renting a golf cart."

  • Perfect Beach Abode

"Rick's Retreat has all the amenities you would need for a great vacation. The house was great for our group of friends to have our own space and space for all of us to hang out. The retreat had good signage to explain the cable and internet(which was perfect). The location has to be the best on the island. Walking distance to the beach and all the local restaurants. Can't wait to come back next year."

  • Great view, great beach, great experience!!

"Don't hesitate to book. Took my wife on an anniversary trip. Resort is beautiful, condo is well equipped and tastefully decorated, along with a VERY comfortable king sized bed. The beach is a short walk and their are chairs and umbrellas in the condo for use. Sofa doubles as a pull out. Had visitors who stated it was the most comfortable pullout they slept on. We captured some photos of manatees in the marina, truly an awesome experience. We also saw some dolphins in the ocean. Had great meals in Doc Fords, which is right on site. Try the yuca tan shrimp, it's amazing. Debbie is wonderful and answered a bunch of questions prior to booking. Prompt call when I was a bit turned around during my stay. She is very "motherly" (lol). In short, you will not be disappointed."

  • Perfect location for family of four

"Marina Villa was the ideal location for our family of four. The villa was well maintained, clean and well supplied. The view was spectacular from the lanai and we were entertained every day by the marina dolphin. Pool and fishing kept our children busy. Adjacency to the beach and marina was a plus. We will be back!"

Captiva Island Travel Tips

A vacation to Captiva Island in southwest Florida off of the Gulf of Mexico is just what you need to relax. This locale is north of Sanibel Island and popular folklore suggests Captiva got its name from a pirate captain named Jose Gaspar who would hold female prisoners there for ransom.

The island's first inhabitant was an Austrian named William Herbert Binder who crashed offshore near Upper Captiva in 1921. He eventually made his way to Pine Island after building a makeshift raft but returned to Captiva to build a homestead where he was the only resident for 10 years.

Captiva Island Attractions

Turner Beach is the perfect place to go fishing while vacationing in Captiva Island. The beach stretches for 5 miles and has plenty of colorful seashells. Captiva Island is considered one of the best in the world for shelling, a popular activity due to the abundance of them washing up from the gulf. When you're spending a day at Turner Beach, you can lay out in the sun, swim in the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico or build a sand castle with the kids. Before the sun sets and you head back to your rental for the night, venture down Captiva Drive for a scenic view of giant cactus and tropical flora that thrive in the city's downtown district.

A trip to Captiva Island wouldn't be complete without a stop at The Bubble Room. This world famous, multi-theme restaurant was established 1979 and features decor from the 1930s and 1940s. You can still find many of the original toys that were put in the restaurant when it was founded and the kids will love the Christmas decorations and lights hanging year-round in the front room. The eatery was also the first on the island to use bright pastel colors that are still popular today and menu favorites include Socra cheese, Bubble Bread, Carolina Moons, Tarzan and Eddie Fisherman.
