  • Our own piece of paradise!

"Our family arrived after being in the keys for 5 days and it was so nice, and quite, and relaxing after all the touristy stuff! Theists had buckets full of shells within minutes of hitting the beach! First off, the house is everything the pictures show - the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. The beds were comfortable with plenty of extra pillows and blankets. The bathrooms had plenty of fluffy towels. The laundry room was so convienent for running a couple of loads. The beach is gorgeous! We wrote down the tide schedule for the week so we knew when we would have the best shelling. There was also a storm that came though the night before we arrived and there were lots of big shells for the taking. During the week, my kids found over 100 sharks teeth, a mermaids purse, a horseshoe crab shell and lots and lots of shells! We also fished off the beach and caught a lemon shark and a devil ray. While swimming, sting rays would chase their dinner right between your legs! We also saw many dolphins right off the beach. Pirates water taxi was our way of getting back and forth to the island. Yes, it does get expensive, but they are running a business that is seasonal. I recommend making your reservations at least a week ahead of time if you go during the busy season. They are the only water taxi running out of Elreds Marina. Make sure you have everything you need so you don't have to go back and forth! We rented a golf cart for a couple of days from the guys on the island (I can't remember the name of their business) and it was a great way to see the island. I thought their rates were reasonable and we had some problems with one of the carts and they came and traded it with another one with no problem. This vacation was just what we needed for our family. Our kids are 11, 8 and 5 and they were never bored. One night we even took flashlights to the beach and searched for crabs! The stars - so many! We did do a day trip to a airboat Eco tour so we made it a day off the island and ate out, got ice cream and did some shopping. If you are looking to get away from the touristy crowds and just spend some time with your loved ones, Little Gasparilla Island is the place to go! The owners have equipped the home with everything you could need. Bring your clothes and lots of food and you will have a wonderful time!"

  • Awesome Getaway!!

"This trip was a 25th anniversary present for my husband and me. A lifelong friend came with us so we could go to the beach and my husband could fish. We had been to the island many years ago and always wanted to return. The house is everything presented and more. We were looking to get away from the tourist crowds and this was the place to go. I only wish we could have stayed longer. It is peaceful and serene and the beach is absolutely beautiful and not crowded. The sunsets are breathtaking! I hope we will be able to return at least once a year. Our thanks to Duffy and Mike!!"

  • Little slice of paradise!

"My one and only complaint will be addressed first, because it's not something I hold the home owners responsible for (their maintenance crew should have either fixed the problem or alerted the owners). The main bedroom ac was not working. That's it... my only complaint :-) Now for my raves! The house is beyond quaint. Think of it as roughing it... but not too rough. Coming from a Loew's snob... if I can fall head over heels in love with this sweet little slice of paradise, anyone can! The furniture is mismatched and rustic, the kitchen and it's utensils are too and the bathroom is small. And every single bit of it only adds to the simple, quiet charm that the house itself has to offer. No where will you find a better view, or be lulled to sleep by the waves rocking you at night. And NO WHERE will you be blessed enough to hear only the waves no matter where you are sitting inside the house. With all of the stress and rush that I deal with in my day-to-day life (and often times during my vacations as well), being able to sit on a deck that offers an unobstructed, panoramic view of nothing but shoreline, sipping red wine and having the shells play their music for me as the waves washed over them... it was just the therapy this girl needed. Julie, you are an A+ doll and I thank you so much for every email. Your little Beach Shack is simply perfect in my book and I can not wait to come back!"

  • Maricela & Rolando Tamayo

"We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house was great much better than expected. Love your details of your decoration the only thing you don't have is a gulf cart. Which you should consider adding. But if not it isn't necessary. Would definitely do it again. Thanks for everything."
