"Great fishing vacation with my wife and sons at Dock Envy. Beautiful unobstructed view of Bird Island, and a short walk to the gulfside beach. Owners are the best! Very helpful with anything and everything that we needed, including giving us a golf cart tour of the island and casting a net to catch some live bait for the boys. Boys caught everything from 15" Mangrove Snapper to large catfish to Rays to Snook, including a monster 42" Snook that made my 14 year old's year. The water taxi to the dock is comfortable and is a 5-minute boat ride from Eldred's Marina. Would recommend that you know how to throw a cast net for bait. There is baitfish galore and it is easily caught if you can throw a net, and the big boys like the mullet. Hold on for dear life is all I can say. Thanks John and Cindy for a memorable week; and we'll see you again soon."

  • You'll Want to Stay Forever

"Very clean! Well kept and maintained property. Secluded from other homes on the island - very private. Lower level has beach equipment storage, washer/dryer, outdoor shower (for removing beach sand), and a mother-in-law apartment with it's own air conditioner and restroom/shower (perfect for Grandma). Upstairs has wrap around balcony with gas grill, screened-in porch with wicker seating for four, large kitchen and living room with plenty of room for kids to sprawl and plenty of kitchen wares (yay blender) and reverse osmosis drinking system, two bedrooms with K / Q, full bath. Laundry basket and hamper provided. Lots of towels and even a beach bag were in the linen closet! We had an issue with the tub faucet (island water blocked it up) but the owner John replaced it ... it was very handy to have him just at the end of the road. We also rented his golf cart which was a must for getting items from the boat to the house - we arrived after a major storm and dragging luggage over the cart paths would have been a mess. Only suggestions: more hand towels, wash cloths, This rental has no dish washer, but we relied on paper plates and only had to wash cookware. Helpful info: We used Pirate water taxi to get to the island ($10/person/way) - which you want to be on time for (Capt Emmett will let you know that for sure!). We bought groceries and liquor at the Publix in Placida. Groceries were cheaper there than in our home state of Colorado... Liquor comparable. Capt Emmett dropped us off at dock 75 which is the shortest distance to the house, but if John leaves the cart at his dock for you, you'll want to get dropped off at 78/79. The beach is a short walk/golf cart ride away. The sand bard extends quite a ways off shore and I saw teenagers 100 ft out that were only waist deep. Beach had people on it but not overcrowded. Folks brought body boards, paddle boards and kayaks. We saw dolphins off the southern tip of the Island but took a boat ride to see them and manatees (John knows where to find them if you rent a boat). The water was not very clear due to the major storm (tornado and massive rain) prior to our arrival. The water is still pretty cool but the air temp was in the low 80s and perfect throughout our stay. We waded and our young kids played in the waves. To be honest, we didn't want to leave and could have stayed forever. We'd definitely come back and stay with John again. Thanks, John for treating us so well and for all your help!"

  • Perfect for family!

"We just arrived home from our first but not last trip to LGI. Hideaway Bay is a great location on the island. It is right in the middle of the gulf and bay. Orlando made everything so easy. He even happen to be at the house working when the first part of my family arrived and was nice enough to explain the water heater he just worked on. Then he called a few times after to make sure we were ok. I was very impressed with the amount of bath towels provided. But would suggest to get some new sheets for the queen bed upstairs. The set that was on them were a bit itchy so we changed them. But noticed the 2nd set had some holes in them. My parents slept in the King bed downstairs and loved the mattress so much that they took pictures of the tag to find one to buy at home. The queen bed upstairs was not as comfy but I can understand it would be hard to get a new mattress upstairs because of the spiral staircase. My aunt slept on the couch and she said she was very comfortable. We loved the lanai and the deck below the house. The place is so close to the beach even though it doesn't look like it in pictures. I was concerned about the ferry service but it turned out to be a very fun part of our vacation. We went across to mainland 3 out of the 6 days. We cooked in the kitchen each night and found it to be easy to use. I would suggest to sharpen the knives because they are rather dull and do not cut very well. This property is a great place to stay and Orlando is a very wonderful person to rent from. He is honest and trusting. We hope to return next year."

  • Fantastic Week

"We had a great time at this property. Secluded and beautiful and peaceful - who could ask for more? No roads or stores or distractions....just a beautiful stretch of beach that can't be beat. The water was great, the scenery gorgeous, the house was SO comfortable. I think we sat in every chair on that amazing screened in, wraparound deck. Every little nook was perfect at a different time of day - again, a very comfortable house. We had everything we needed and the hosts, Rebecca and Andrew, were terrific - Rebecca even picked up a few needed items for us when she went to the mainland. How great and thoughtful! Also loved being able to use their kayaks! We would totally consider coming here again - great, great, great!"
