  • Great Escape- 100% relaxing

"This house is perfect for busy people who wish to SLOW down and take in all that Marco Island has to offer without having to deal with the crowds and the hotel experience. I have travelled to Marco for over 20 years and this was my first time renting a private home on the island. Most times were hotel, condos or with family. Our family of four (consisting of Mom, Dad and teen boys) needed a place that we would have plenty to do or nothing at all. This house meets all of those needs. The floor plan is ideal for privacy- Master on one side with private bath- then two well appointed rooms on the other side of the house with a shared bathroom. We could spread out with the pool area, read on the dock and sunbath- swim and just "chill". We also had access to great ride bikes in the garage to take a spin around the neighborhood and the boys lived for the ping pong table. The kitchen was perfect for the week and we were shocked at the amount of dishes, cutlery and serving dishes--fully stocked. The view out back is great- We ate every meal poolside overlooking the water. It was fun to fish in the evening or play a few games. The beach was a quick trip and accessible. Also close by were food stores, Walgreens and a great selection of restaurants and other amenities. When we wanted the really active scene we cruised over to the Marriott for the Tiki Bar and live music and the boys took in the beach -- great to retreat again and spread out back at our own place. Everything was clean, organized and comfortable. The wi-fi worked great and everyone was thrilled with that; and my husband was able to work on his lap top (when he wanted to ) all while sitting poolside and watching his football games. The sliding glass doors disappear into the wall in both rooms which opens up the inside to the outside - all while screened in- this is truly the perfect island house. It's quiet and peaceful which makes sleeping great! We were able to open the windows and enjoyed the rustle of the palm trees. The best part of the entire trip was the ability for our family to slow down, come together, relax and reconnect. I can't wait to come back again."

  • Super House

"My wife and I stayed for 6 weeks over Christmas and New Year and were very sad to return home. The house is very spacious, furnished well in a comfortable, modern style and was spotless. The lanai is a great space and most of our meals were eaten outside even on Christmas Day! The pool seemed a little small but constrained by available space, so is narrow but long enough and deep enough for swimming. Access was easy for my wife, who has limited mobility. The house is well equipped in the kitchen, has plenty of bedding and towels, an excellent barbeque, and good HD TVs with digital recording capability. The house is central in Marco, handy to walk to the main shopping plaza and excellent farmers' market (every Wednesday). Though situated on a main road, the traffic noise was not obtrusive. The patio at the rear is quite private and not overlooked, though there are other houses backing on to the canal. Marco is a very quiet area, with quite strict noise regulations so if you have children, they will need a volume control! Great for us though. We found the rates for this house competitive against others in the region, particularly as tax and pool heating was included. Marco Island is a great holiday destination for house renters. Although it is completely developed, it is quiet with relatively low traffic levels, so getting to the many restaurants and shops is easy. Access to the super beach is restricted to a couple of access points (with $8 per day parking) and, with hindsight, we should have paid the $140 fee for a permit for the Residents' Beach (available with photo ID to anyone staying more than 1 month). However, Marco is also a great centre for boat trips (or rent your own), to visit wild life in the Everglades, shops, restaurants and beaches at Naples and Sanibel Island, and we even made a couple of trips up to Sarasota where the Ringling Museum was a must-see. Overall, we had a super time and happily recommend it."

"We had another totally enjoyable vacation on Marco Island. The condo was predictably clean & comfortable. We walked every day & liked the new Speak Easy restaurant by Walgreens. Angler's Cove has been newly painted & the grounds well maintained. We look forward to coming again."

Marco Island Travel Tips

Marco Island can be found in the Gulf of Mexico and is the biggest of Florida's "Ten Thousand Islands". With white, sandy beaches and a laid-back atmosphere, relaxation is certainly the name of the game. Enjoy the seemingly endless sunshine while you swim with dolphins, work on your tan, try some water sports or stroll the streets perusing shop windows.

The island itself is small, just 6 miles by 4 miles, but there's tons to do here. Marco Island boasts an excellent restaurant scene where you can sample fresh seafood and other local favorites in between exploring the natural scenery and checking out cultural attractions.

Things to Do on Marco Island

Dolphin Explorer: Dolphin and marine life lovers will certainly want to take a trip on the Dolphin Explorer, a 30-foot catamaran that can carry up to 28 passengers. This boat allows scientists and visitors to the island to get up close and personal with the Gulf's aquatic life. The Dolphin Explorer is used as part of a study called the Ten Thousand Island Dolphin Project looking at the movement, association patterns and behavior of Southwest Florida's bottlenose dolphins. Be part of the action with a trip out on the catamaran and be sure to bring your camera!

Marco Island Historical Museum: If you're hoping to find out about the history of Marco Island, look no further than the Marco Island Historical Museum where you can travel back more than one million years through various exhibits. Learn about the Calusa Indian tribe, the pioneer settlement and development on the island over the years. Peruse the photography, artifacts and more as you stroll through the space and gain a better understanding of what made Marco Island what it is today.

Marco Island Center for the Arts: Experience the culture of the area at the Marco Island Center for the Arts, which provides not only galleries and exhibits, but also offers lectures, classes, workshops and special events. The galleries change monthly and feature works from Floridian artists in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture and more. Currently the theme is Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and past galleries include Salon de Garage, Gold Madness, Fun and Funk Teapots and Picture the Music.

South Marco and Tigertail Beaches: Spending time on the local beaches is a must here, and South Marco Beach is an excellent option as it's one of two public beaches on the island. Here you'll find an acre of sandy shores dotted with lovely sabal palm trees, creating a true island feel. It's a great place if you're looking to collect seashells or want to take a swim. Tigertail is the more popular of the two beaches, as it features extra amenities including restrooms and a full-service snack bar. Tigertail is located on a lagoon so the water here is pretty shallow, making it excellent for families with smaller kids. Find the perfect spot of sand to stretch out your beach towel or take advantage of the beach chair and umbrella rentals. Whether you're swimming, sunbathing, catching up on reading or throwing a Frisbee, you'll have a great time. When you need a break from the sun, check out the adjacent butterfly gardens and children's playgrounds. There are even grills and picnic tables for a tasty lunch break.

Dining on Marco Island

Snook Inn: For more than 30 years, Snook Inn has been serving up delicious food while patrons enjoy true waterfront dining. You can drive in by boat or car as this casual eatery offers parking for both. Snook Inn is open seven days a week and on any given day you can enjoy live entertainment while sampling the mahi mahi, fried oysters, deep sea scallops, old-fashioned Reuben, barbecue pork sandwich and specialty drinks.

Sale e Pepe: For a more upscale dining experience, make a reservation at Sale e Pepe for some exquisite gourmet Italian fare. You'll feel like you've traveled to Italy once you step into the dining room outfitted with marble floors, hand-painted frescoes and aged stones. Chef Giuliano Matarese and his team cook everything from scratch every day. Try the pasta options, sea bass, rack of lamb or filet mignon, and be sure to pair it with a delicious wine. While it'll be easy to stuff yourself on the unbeatable main course, be sure to save room for dessert like chocolate mousse, tiramisu cheesecake or homemade gelato.
