  • Manatee Haven…Should Be Manatee Heaven!!

"We stayed for a week and wished we could have stayed for a month! My sister, my parents and I stayed at Manatee "Heaven" to celebrate a milestone birthday! We had never been to Upper or North Captiva but it sounded like an adventure! Kay, the owner is extraordinary, she is kind, caring, informative and quick to respond to any questions. The vacation we had was one of the best we have had as a family in Florida. You are totally off the grid, it doesn’t feel like you are in Florida at all, for all you know, you are on a Caribbean island. The experience of being on the island and in the house is so peaceful, calm, and tranquil. The house is beautiful, absolutely anything and everything that you want is there and more, Kay and Jake have thought of it all. The pool and hot tub are both lovely, you can float around, read, play, daydream and there are places for sun and for shade. We loved sitting out on the lanai for dinner looking out to the ocean and watching our osprey fly by with beach debris they were gathering to build their nest. Morning coffee and happy hour was spent on the observation deck with a 360 degree view of the island. Another bonus in the house is the elevator, having the elevator for my parents made all the difference in the world as they both have knee issues and stairs are a challenge. We would go down to the beach every morning and then go back down to sit and watch the sunset, shells were everywhere, but people were not, it was not crowded or busy. The wildlife also was a highlight, you will see gopher turtles walking down the road, osprey everywhere, birds at the beach, dolphins and manatees in the ocean - it is their island and their world and we were sharing it. I haven't mentioned the roads - there are no paved roads! No paved roads means, no cars, no traffic, no noise, we loved that! Everyone drives around the island on sand roads in golf carts, which was very fun and adds a whole new layer to the island. Jane as the manager was so helpful and welcoming and checked it to make sure we were OK. The people that work on the island that we met were so lovely and helpful whether it was at Barnacle Phil's, Boats R Fun or the Island Girl Charters staff that brought us over, they were all great. It’s a vacation where you can just stop and get away from it all! We have already booked for next year and are counting down the days! Thank you to Kay and Jake for sharing this little piece of heaven!"

  • Do I Share or Not?

"Florida has been my families’ spring break go-to spot for years. This year we stumbled upon a closely kept secret -- a tropical paradise. Frankly, I have mixed emotions about sharing the experience or just keeping it myself. Our trip began at Pine Island where we took a boat shuttle across the sound to North Captiva Island. It felt like a trip to another country where things were simpler - no cars, no loud crowds, no tourist traps, no huge hotels; just peace and quiet. When we arrived the caretaker, Jason, met us at the dock with our two golf carts. He led us down dirt roads to Bluefin Beach House - a stunning house tucked in lush vegetation. The home is fully air conditioned, with screened decks, decorated in a beach motif, with it’s own private pool and hot tub. This house was amazing - clean, roomy, and set up perfectly for a large family or several families traveling together. There are three master suites with private baths and balconies. My kids loved the kids room which had 6 bunkbeds, a private bath, and it’s own TV with gaming system. The kitchen and living room are on the third floor with magnificent views of the surrounding vegetation and gulf. As Jason was showing us around our luggage was delivered to our doorstep. We were ready to begin our a vacation. During our week on North Captiva, my family had many adventures: snorkeling for sand dollars and shells, watching dolphins play in the waves and osprey catch fish, kayaking with manatees, and spotting tortoises ambling along the roads. We spent hours walking on the shell covered beaches searching for shells, fishing from the shore, splashing in the pools, and relaxing in the hot tub and on the multiple decks. Access to North Captiva Island club is included with the house rental. With that comes pools, kayaks, tennis courts, more bikes, and a basketball hoop. During our week on the island, my kids were always busy and entertained. If you are looking to slow down the pace for awhile, North Captiva Island and Bluefin Beach House is the place for you. Sit back, relax, and let your stress melt away in the sand and surf of this tropical paradise."

  • AMAZING week in paradise!

"I can not say enough wonderful things about the house and the owners! We had a family of seven stay for a week and we are already planning our vacation back for next year. The house is beautiful and the amenities were outstanding! We have stayed in many homes but none of them compared to Stardance! The kids loved the pool and golf carts. It was so peaceful and quiet and the beaches were fabulous. The views from the house are outstanding and we saw dolphins, sharks, manatees and tons of beautiful birds. If you are looking for the perfect family getaway you will not find a more perfect house and island!"

  • Really is a perfect placement

"My family and I stayed at Perfect Placement the first week of March. There were 7 of us (including a 5yo and a 6 month old). There was plenty of space. Everything was clean. The location of the house is absolutely perfect. Steps from the beach. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch. We ate out there most meals. The sunsets were perfect! We loved the feel of the island life. Slow pace. We really enjoyed access to North Captiva Island Club. We went to the pool most days. We played tennis one day. Rented bikes (free) one day and Kayaks another day. We rented a boat one day and really enjoyed exploring nearby islands. We only ate out twice. Once at the pool bar for lunch. And then on our last night we ate at Barnacles. It seemed a little pricey but since we just did it once, it wasn't too bad. I had read a review that someone said they wish they had packed more food and less clothes. Even after reading that I still felt the same way. I wore 1/4 of the clothes I brought- I pretty much lived in my swimsuit and coverup. And we ended up ordering more groceries half-way through the week. I would suggest adding bottled water to your grocery list. We initially didn't do that, but the tap water tasted a little funny. We had a great experience ordering our groceries through Sandie and having them delivered to the house. I would highly recommend staying here and hope to come back myself. This is a great place to get away from the busyness of life."
