  • Wonderful winter getaway :)

"Nice roomy condo for family of six. Plenty of room without for us to all do our thing - watch TV, clean shells, cook, play games, or relax on the lanai with a cold drink. Weather was amazing and shelling was great. Nice amenities at the condo as well. Easy access and parking."

  • This is a very special place in paradise

"We stayed in this condo at the Island Beach Club (IBC) from 1/3/15-1/17/15. We were wowed when we arrived -- the condo is beautifully decorated, has a gorgeous cooks kitchen and updated bathrooms with nicely tiled walk-in showers. The owners have taken great care in selecting the furnishings and art work (most of which is Denny's great photography). We loved the lanai and spent hours there. At the end of a fun-filled day we appreciated the comfort of the couches in the living room, both full sized for maximum comfort. The mattresses are top of the line and extremely comfortable. The IBC is also fabulous with its own beach and grand swimming pool. The condo provided all we needed for beach and pool: noodles, chairs, etc. It also provided everything we needed for the kitchen, bath, etc and had 3 TVs with instructions. The condo is also very, very clean. We will be back year -- I wish it were available a bit more often as we'd extend our stay. So it's hard for me to be so truthful about this condo as we'd like to rent it again, and for a longer period but it truly is a fabulous experience! And in addition to this being such a nice place to stay, I must add that we met the nicest people at IBC. This is a special condo in paradise!"

  • Absolutely fantastic Sanibel sanctuary!

"This house was, bar none, the best rental we have ever stayed at. It is very secluded and private with dense mature landscaping and views overlooking the bayou. The house itself was very spacious, even more so than the pictures suggest, and the layout allowed for a fantastic indoor/outdoor living experience. There was a wall of sliding glass doors that opened onto a fabulous outdoor deck overlooking the large heated swimming pool. The entire area was contained within a screened lanai. The house is also quite close to Bowman’s Beach, and very walkable. We were able to get there in 15 minutes with 3 children (aged 5, 2, and 6 months) in tow. A couple of adults could easily do it in less than 10. As for the amenities, the house was very well appointed. The master bedroom is basically its own enclave, with a vaulted ceiling, two decks and a full high-end bathroom. There were 3 other bedrooms on the other side of the house - a queen room, a twin room, and a bunk room. In terms of supplies, there really was everything you could possibly need for your stay. Each bathroom contained many extra rolls of toilet paper. Also provided was dish soap, laundry detergent, oil, spices, and cleaning supplies. They had more dishes, appliances and cookware than in our own kitchen. The pool was conveniently managed by Eli, the pool guy, every Wednesday morning, and our children very much enjoyed the many provided pool toys. All in all, we loved our stay on Sanibel, and we can’t say enough about this house. It is a gorgeous retreat. Thank you Brooke for all your help!"

  • Excellent place to stay

"We just returned from spending a week at this lovely condo. It is a beautifully furnished and decorated place. The owner has thought of everything when equipping this condo even down to additional bedding for extra visitors, toys, children's movies, a pack n play and other items for infants. The place was extremely clean and all appliances (including the TV) were very simple to operate. The lanai was lovely and very private with lots of bushes that hide the parking area. The beach is a short walk and was accessed through a very natural path, bridge over a lagoon and then a sandy path with protected dunes on either side. Cars are parked in a shaded area with protection from the elements and is well-maintained. The pool area is very nice with lots of chairs and restrooms. Check-in was very simple and the staff at the office were helpful and accommodating. The owner provided us with a lengthy list of things we might like to see and do, restaurants and local activities. The J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge was the jewel in the crown - a fabulous place to see local and migrant wildlife, well-structured, and so interesting. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and I would highly recommend staying at this condo when going to Sanibel Island."

Sanibel Island Travel Tips

Just west of Fort Myers you'll find lovely Sanibel Island, known for its beautiful sunsets, welcoming beaches, outdoor spaces and peaceful tranquility.

Whether you're taking a family vacation for spring break, planning a romantic trip for two or craving an escape from the cold with friends, this Floridian island offers a great place to relax, collect seashells and explore the 12 miles of shores. Because of it's location and geographic orientation, it's acts like a scoop, gathering seashells onto its beaches, making Sanibel Island an excellent place to hunt for these unique treasures.

In addition to exciting outdoor attractions, the island offers a plethora of dining options, from laid-back beach eateries to restaurants specializing in, of course, seafood, to upscale spots for a nice night out. And when you're ready to hit the water, spend an afternoon boating or fishing to truly experience living like a local.

Things to Do on Sanibel Island

- Sanibel Island Lighthouse: One of the coolest places to check out during your trip is the Sanibel Island Lighthouse, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974. You'll find it situated on the eastern part of the island, and it was built to mark the entrance to San Carlos for ships coming into the port of Punta Rassa. While the lighthouse itself isn't open to the public, the grounds are and it's definitely worth the trip to see the keeper's quarters, catch dinner at the fishing pier or take advantage of the beach access. The lighthouse also makes for great photographs, so don't forget your camera!

- Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum: Sanibel Island is known as the spot to hunt for seashells, so a trip to the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is a must during your getaway. The museum is named after two pioneer families that lived on the island and features the most comprehensive collection of shells in the U.S. Inside you'll see a variety of shells and mollusks, learn about the history of the area and their scientific and artistic importance. Some of the museum's exhibits include Early Sanibel Shell Collectors; Florida Fossil Shells,; Mollusks, Medicine, and Man and The Scallop, Queen of Conchology, among others.

- J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge: Animals lovers won't be disappointed with a visit the J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which was named for Jay Norwood Darling, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and environmentalist. The refuge is home to more than 200 species of birds, more than 50 types of reptiles and 32 different kinds of mammals. If you're hoping to fit in some bird watching, the refuge is an exceptional spot to do so, or you can hit the paths for a bike ride or hike. If you want to paddle a canoe down a winding river path or take a four-mile scenic drive to see all of the natural beauty, like cabbage and sabal palms, red mangrove and a variety of other native plants.

- Sanibel Historical Museum and Village: You'll be transported back in time as you explore a collection of late 19th and early 20th century buildings, including Bailey's General Store, Miss Charlotta's Tea Room, Clarence Rutland's home, the 1926 post office, the island's original schoolhouse and more. Inside, all the buildings are outfitted with items from the early 1900s, and as you wander through the village, you'll see a pioneer garden, antique Model T truck and an old packinghouse replica complete with farm equipment.

Dining on Sanibel Island

- Mad Hatter: For a lovely romantic dinner for two, try Mad Hatter, where you'll find a wonderland of delicious cuisine. You'll be treated to stunning views as you dine on options like phyllo shrimp, black truffle sea scallops, Hudson Valley foie gras or grilled filet mignon. Chefs Kurt and Michelle Jarvis offer a cozy, welcoming atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy amazing flavors after a day filled with exploring. Save room for dessert like creme brulee or berry crepes, which you can experience as you watch the sunset.

- The Island Cow: if you want a more laid-back dining experience, head to The Island Cow, which opens for breakfast, so you can have a hearty meal before you start your day. It's also open for dinner when you can eat under the stars on the porch while you listen to live music. Try a po-boy sandwich, cold wildberry bisqueor seafood. You'll get a real feeling of island dining when you come to The Island Cow. There's plenty on the menu here, so you won't be disappointed!
