  • Vacation Oasis

"My wife and I arrived at night and from the street the home looked quite lovely. When we entered through the front door we realized how lovely it truly was, clean, tastefully decorated, nice furnishings etc. Then we slid back the vertical blinds covering the sliding doors to the lanai and covered pool area and " WoW " we uncovered our own little Oasis right outside our door. Everything that was described in the listing by the owners was true and accurate. They themselves are wonderful people to work with and will bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable and pleasing. There is a pair of Redheaded woodpeckers in the large tree in the back rear corner of the property and we had visits from Bluejay's as well as cardinals and other feathered friend while lounging in the pool area. I would be skeptical about recommending the property to friends, only because they may want to encroach on the time we wish to stay there (Ha Ha). The location in relationship to food stores, places to eat, car rentals and a variety of other attractions as well, could not have been selected better!!! My wife and I loved it so much we immediately rebooked for next year, that should tell all... Thanks David and Gail, and say Hi to Binh for us. R & P Orangeville Canada"

  • A calm, spacious villa in which to unwind.

"We returned. It is the second time we have rented this villa on quiet Mirror Lake Road. The front view of the villa belies its spacious interior. The spacious master suite, with ample closet space, occupies a wing at the rear of the property overlooking the pool area. The kitchen and living area is central in the property with a view out to the pool. There are 3 other large bedrooms all with ample closet space. The villa accommodated our party of 6 adults easily. The listing and photographs give an accurate description of the property. The pool/jacuzzi area is not overlooked and is a quiet, calm oasis in which to kick back on a sun lounger and relax. This is a real home from home villa stocked with everything you require (you just need to buy groceries and move right in). The owners are very approachable should you experience any problems. Publix, the gas station, Sarasota Square Mall and beautiful Siesta Key Beach are all a short drive away. Visit Mote Marine, St. Armand's Circle, Myakka River State Park, The Ringling Estate. Eat at Captain Curt's for clam chowder, Carrabba's for Italian, Outback Steakhouse, Mattisons on 41, Bonjour French café in Siesta Key village. We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa to friends or family. It is spacious and overall a calm, relaxing place to spend a vacation with family whatever the generation mix. Come visit, you have nothing to loose only your worries."

  • Hidden Treasure!

"My husband and I just returned from a weeks stay in the Surf Shack. We were very comfortable, everything we needed was there. We had perfect weather the whole week and rode the two bikes into the village and the beach every day! Jim was very attentive to our needs, came and worked on the bikes and made sure we were happy with everything. Would recommend this property to couples looking for a great little getaway near the most beautiful beach! Thanks Jim...we'll be back!"

Sarasota Travel Tips

Sarasota offers visitors an excellent array of cultural attractions, dining experiences and outdoor activities.

Of course, while visiting Sarasota you'll want to spend ample time on the sandy shores getting that perfect tan, catching up on reading, cooling off in the bright blue waters and building the world's greatest sand castle, and there's plenty of space on the beaches to do all that and more during your vacation.

When you're ready to head inland, a variety of local restaurants await you to fill you with delicious flavors - especially fresh seafood - and provide you with a delightful night out. You can also spend time learning about the history and culture of this Floridian city as you explore the architecture, museums and even the circus.

Things to Do in Sarasota

- The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art: If you've been a long-time fan of the circus, art and the Ringling Brothers, visiting the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and the Circus Museum are musts on the Sarasota to-do list. The Museum of Art boasts 21 galleries featuring paintings from Europe, contemporary art from Asia and America and Cypriot antiquities. There's currently more than 10,000 works in the collection in mediums such as painting, photography, sculpture, drawings and decorative arts. Some of the most treasured masterpieces are from Peter Paul Ruben, Marcel Duchamp, Rosa Bonheur, Benedetto Pagni, Joseph Wright of Derby and more. And if you love the magic of stepping into the big tent, be sure to also swing by the Circus Museum, where you'll find performing props, wardrobes and equipment like parade wagons and a person-shooting cannon. You'll also see a variety of 19th and 20th century posters and learn all about the history of "the greatest show on earth."

- Sarasota Jungle Gardens: Nature and animals lovers will certainly appreciate the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, which is one of the oldest continuously run attractions in Florida. Here you'll find more than 150 animals, both native and exotic, including parrots, birds of prey, primates, snakes, alligators, small mammals and flamingos - a huge draw here - throughout the 10 acres of tropical landscaping. The recently installed Flamingo Cam offers 24-hour viewing access to the flock of pink birds.

- Ca' d'zan Mansion: This amazing house is A 56-room Venetian Gothic-inspired structure that was formerly the Ringling family's home. The mansion covers 36,000 square feet and stands five stories tall. Take a guided tour of the palace and you'll feel like a personal guest of the Ringling family as you hear stories and information about them as well as the home itself.

- Siesta Beach: For eight miles you'll experience the city's gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the laid-back, relaxed vibe, calm waters of the Gulf and the unbeatable sunshine.

Dining in Sarasota

- Captain Curt's Crab and Oyster Bar: Being so close to the ocean, fresh seafood is sure to be delicious in Sarasota, and you can find tasty options at Captain Curt's Crab and Oyster Bar. This family-friendly eatery with a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices gives you a taste of "Old Florida" with conch fritters, crab, shrimp, gator bites, escargot and more. For the adults, there's also an outdoor Tiki Bar here that serves drinks until 2 a.m., so you can have a fun, but relaxed, night out in a tropical setting. There's also a foosball table and pinball machine inside if you're up for some friendly competition. If you're feeling adventurous, there's even karaoke and live entertainment most nights.

- Bijou Cafe: For a more upscale dining experience, head to the Bijou Cafe, which has been serving delicious Continental-American cuisine since 1986. The eatery features an award-winning wine list and exceptional service. The decor is lovely and emulates a modern European cafe with French windows and fresh-picked flowers glowing in candlelight.
