"We chose this spot because we originally planned on going to Savannah, but it was too expensive for our family of 7.
Pros: easy access from northern states, taking 75 south
- quiet lake with nice dock
-the kids loved the kayaks
-lake suitable for swimming!
Nuances- the oven temperature was hit or miss, so we preferred to use the stove. I wouldn't recommend this gone for toddlers. The stairway isn't safe without constant supervision of little ones but it was fine for our kids, 6 and up. The washing machine sometimes took forever to fill up and would just drip instead of fill with water. The wi-fi is better than nothing but not good for streaming video. The house does have a DVD Player. There's plenty of dishes and a coffee maker. The bathrooms are spacious and clean and the beds are comfortable. We had 7 people, but one had to sleep on the couch. Which he didn't mind. One bedroom has a door, and the others don't, so kids had to respect the privacy of others.
We were a little concerned driving in because there were a lot of run down properties nearby, but the house was nice and well taken care of. Some overgrown brush. But pretty clear walkways. We were a little weirded out by the Old Testament bible verses posted on the roads that were referred to "wicked ways", but didn't encounter anyone who was judgemental or rude. The caretaker was friendly and helped remove our trash.
Town is 8 miles away and has everything you need and a small movie theatre. Other day trips are generally about two hours.
Overall it was a pleasant trip for our blended family to spend time together. Jump off the dock or float in the lake on a raft!
