  • A jewel by the river

"We were a three family group coming from Atlanta and Athens with kids ranging from 9 to 19. It was an easy drive from all locations and amazing to be so tucked back into the road and right on the Etowah- beautiful situated house with all manner of porches- coffee on one over looking the river, dinner on one over looking the stream and a small upstairs one for star gazing. It was a treat to be out of cell service AND still be able to watch The Dogs play on Saturday. Plenty of space for cooking and eating and everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. The House was super clean which we really appreciated. Not much hiking done but lots of time fishing and creek walking. The road was good and even though we didn't need to it was a short car ride to anything we might have forgotten to bring. Can't wait til next year."

  • After Christmas Family Gathering

"We spent Dec 26-Dec 30 with our 3 grown children and their spouses and our 5 grandchildren in this home. It was very comfortable with lots of "spreading out" room and the outside was wonderful, lots of places to walk and roam in the woods. We fed the horses in the lower pasture carrots and apples and they were very "friendly". I would recommend the rental anyone - Todd, the caretaker, was very friendly and accommodating - he even took our "family picture" for us!"

  • most amazing weekend of my life

"We arrived Halloween night for a friend´s wedding weekend and used the written directions to find the house. We turned around a couple times because we couldn't see the house number in the dark, but it is the last house on the right down the very steep driveway. It was beyond beautiful. Everything was very clean. We had the privilege of staying the master suite which was enormous. It has a walk in closet, a huge bathroom with tons of mirrors, a jet tub, and the most incredible shower you`ll ever have. It overlooks the river and the fall foliage was beautiful. there is a bon fire area which is great and a tree house hot tub a short walk away. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We had a shortage of towels but we should have brought some of our own. It was difficult to maneuver in and out of the driveway with multiple cars because the turn around area near the house is a bit small. We figured it out though. It would have been convenient to have more than 2 keys as well because we had more than one group in and out of the house all weekend. But seriously none of that was even a problem because the house was so awesome. I would absolutely love to stay here again. Can I go this weekend? :-) We loved walking around downtown Dahlonega enjoying the restaurants and shops. I will be day dreaming and raving about this place for years."

  • excellent get away!

"My wife and I were looking for a quick get away from Atlanta for our anniversary. We emailed several VRBO's in order to assure we would get a good response since time was short on booking a cabin. Dutch was very quick to respond back to me and assured me the cabin would be available even with the snow/ice that N Ga had been getting. We were pleasantly surprised upon arriving at Monarch Lodge...not only was it very nice, roomy, had a great wood burning fireplace ( really- if you're going to stay in a mountain cabin, who wants a gas burning fake fireplace!), incredible river views, and close enough to Dahlonega, the outlet malls, etc to easily fill our weekend with activities. The Etowah River and Mooney's creek to the side of the property was very nice - the sounds and sight of the shoals from the river made for a nice back drop to an incredible weekend. I highly recommend Monarch Lodge if you are looking for a quick weekend get away or even longer stay. We've already talked about coming back. Thanks Dutch for going the extra effort in making sure our stay was one to remember!"
