  • An Old Fashioned Family Christmas

"My family, all ten of us, had a wonderful Christmas vacation at Lake Walk. We decorated a little tree, played games, cooked / ate like crazy and reveled in family time. It was truly a special experience and the Lake Walk property played a very huge part in this. We've rented homes from all over and we all agreed, this one was at the top of the list. Well-appointed with every household furnishing you can think of. Extra linens, plenty of kitchen appliances, dishes and little extras that make you feel at home. The rental company was easy to work with and very accommodating. My favorite thing about this property is the way it is laid out. It is hard to imagine the property from the pictures, but it has GREAT separation of space. No one room is huge, but for a large family, it provided exactly what was necessary - lots of bathrooms and a spot for everyone to feel comfortable. The house is beautiful and very well-decorated. You'll feel pampered. The location is perfect, right on the lake, close to all walking trails, Clubhouses and restaurants. Short drives to small country towns that you'll fall in love with. Beautiful scenery. I simply can't say enough about the property. We plan to come back in the summer so we can enjoy the outdoor spaces and Big Canoe amenities - and I can't wait. Thank you Lake Walk!"

  • Couldn't Be Better

"Before returning to reality of life following the holiday break this past weekend, my wife and I took our boys (ranging in age from 8-17) to the Big Canoe property for the first time and could have not been more surprised and pleased with both the Shooting Star residence and entirety of the facilities available. I have lived in North Alabama all of my life and unfortunately was completely unaware of such a majestic and exquisite place. The creek and waterfall beside the home are simply a feature that can not be replicated or manufactured unnaturally, which provide a truly indescribable sense of calm and peace (even with three 8 year-old boys). The furnishings were more than just comfortable and appropriate, but exemplified a feeling of mixing old and new, personality and expression without a feeling of intrusiveness, and comfort without stuffiness. Happily, I can say that over the years I really don't remember staying in another rental (especially with children) where at least one instance arose during the stay in which I had a feeling the owner had failed to provide some form of appropriate amenities-especially in the kitchen-which I can unequivocally say did not occur at this home. From the WiiU (which my boys have decided they are going to pool their Christmas money and purchase in addition to their Xbox), hot tub, master bedroom, loft, chess space, ability to have music throughout the home, fireplace, ping pong, etc., the RETREAT could not have been more of a TREAT for our family! • Peaceful and secluded

"My husband and I spent the weekend and had a wonderful visit. The cabin was quiet and secluded and had a wonderful view of one of the Big Canoe lakes."

  • Best private option on the list, farther out, but very lovely!

"Stargazer is a wonderful stargazing property and reflect everything found in the pictures and descriptions. Even better than some of the pictures as a few things have changed. There is a new huge leather sectional and television level and new TV. Both the couches are now in the upstairs bedrooms which adds extra coziness to the property. We met Julie the housekeeper, and found her to be lovely and hard-working and the house very clean and in good order. The owner, Mark was superb and responding to concerns immediately. I would recommend this to anyone looking at these listings, but note a few things. The drive to the center of activities (tennis, work Out Ctr., Lake and beach area pool) is a little far and requires travel in the car for each trip down there. This is an extremely private place where you could spend hours in the Jacuzzi, playing games downstairs, or relaxing and no one is seen for days! However, if you want to try to and from the beach/pool/workout center for tennis and golf, it will be quite a trip for the family. All that said, I'd stay here again and love everything about it. Please note the recreation room is unfinished has shown. Restaurants are okay at the clubhouse, not great at the Mexican restaurant Fuegos, and there are many to choose from in Jasper just 10 to 12 miles away. We chose to stock the kitchen as it is completely ready for good cooking. I hope Mark replaces the grill soon, as it's on it's last legs. Mark is one of the most responsible owners I've dealt with, and We've done a lot with VRBO, Don't hesitate to stay here and bring your beach towels!!!!"
