  • The Perfect Sacred Retreat

"Our meditation group has been taking advantage of this magical property for years! Being so near to the sacred valley of Waipio (a place of great spiritual energy or "mana" where King Kamehameha was raised) there is no place like it on any of the other islands that we've explored. You're sure to love the boldly creative color scheme, the tropical swimming area and the quiet seclusion that Hale I'o (House of the Hawk) offers!"

  • Home from Home

"This was my third visit to Skandia cottage, I like it so much. For me it provides the perfect environment from which to explore the Island, take photographs and experience the aloha of the real Hawaii. The cottage always feels fresh and inviting and provides everything I could possibly wish for during my stay. Thank you for making each stay so very special."

  • Perfect location....Perfect hosts

"We were first-time travelers to the Big Island and never had booked with VRBO. After finding this site, followed by phone conversations with Rachel, we took the plunge and booked for three nights. Without any qualification whatsoever, this property met our expectations of a "laid-back" Hawaiian experience, just as the local residents like it. Whether you shop the farmers markets in Hilo and Waimea, hike along the North Kohala coast, or just relax on the lanai with a glass of wine and binoculars, you won't be disappointed. Rachel and Chris complement these experiences by offering the perfect balance between privacy and genuine hospitality. Give them a call !"

  • A Week in Heaven

"One of the ladies in our group would say after soaking in the Jacuzzi, "Gokuraku, gokuraku." This means, "Heavenly, heavenly." That's probably how our group of five ladies felt during our stay in Kapulena. We loved the house, the view from the lanai, the fruit trees, the large yard (just right for practicing pitching and chipping), and even the frogs who serenaded us in the evening. We learned about solar ovens and self-watering container gardens from the groundkeepers. All in all, we had a great time."
