  • the green house

"We loved the house all the comforts of home and more! Our stay was nirvana, the ocean views, and pastures were outstanding, the fragrance of the gardenias, the trade winds at night! We will be back for sure. A WONDERFUL TIME!!! Frank, stella, and Dominique."

  • Best Place to Stay On the Hamakua Coast

"Our family recently spent a week at the Old Jodo Temple and found it to be one of the best vacation rentals we've ever stayed in. The easy going comfort of this lovingly restored historic building is only exceeded by the warmth and friendliness of the hosts Ron and Louanne. Although they live in a separate building on the property you wouldn't know they were there unless you had a request or question. They are extremely helpful with information about the Big Island and more than willing to accommodate their guest's requests. If you have any "Chefs" in your group they will love the large well equipped kitchen. The large living and dining rooms are perfect for family gatherings. The property itself is full of amazing tropical plants and fruit trees. The temple room on the second floor is an added bonus. We stayed over the New Years Holiday and this large open room was perfect for our impromptu New Years Eve party. The musicians in our family loved the acoustics and the dancers enjoyed the large wooden floor. The location is about midway along the coast and ideal for exploring this side of the Big island. The temple is located just off the main road ( Rt. 19). An easy, spectacular drive down to Laupahoehoe point. It’s very private and quiet and just a short walk from the ocean, we enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. My family and I look forward to the next time we are able to stay at the temple and reconnect with Ron and Louanne"

  • Exceeded our expectations

"The rental was spacious, private, very comfortable and well-stocked with far more amenities than we expected. We especially liked all the books on the history of the Hamakua Coast, which gave us a special perspective on the region as well as the history of the property itself. When booking, we somehow missed the fact that the rental also includes exclusive use of a large wooden hot tub and outdoor shower, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed taking walks on the upcountry roads amid the lush green forest. The owners were very kind and accommodating, and the kitties who live on the farm are soooo sweet. Our son enjoyed feeding leftovers to the pig! Lots of fun!"

  • A beautiful stay.

"We wanted to go explore the Norhtern side of the big island and ran into this little place in our search. We were so happy to have had the opportunity to stay at the Blue Lotus. Breakfast was a perfect start to the day beautiful yard, ponds, fountains etc. the room was very comfortable and good size. The hospitality of the owners was the best one could expect. We will be back."
