  • Akaka Falls VRBO

"This is a great home to stay at if you're attending Merrie Monarch. It's 15-20 minutes to Hilo town (or Imiloa for the cultural events that go on there) and just another 5-10 minutes to the Edith Kanakaole Stadium and the wonderful craft fairs throughout town and the hotels. The oceanview from the lanai is so beautiful regardless of whether it rains or not you can't help but absorb all the different moods that weather changes reflect; not to say the least about the early morning sunrise off the ocean and the various cloud formations that help your imagination run rampant. The house was comfortable for four adults and one keiki. We also took up the studio next door with a last minute adult add-on. Both homes were just nice and comfortable. Being near Aka ka Falls in the early morning hours as the sun begins to rise you catch the rain the comes down from the mountains...quite refreshing . All in all it was a great place to stay and we all had a wonderful time."

  • Peaceful, quiet getaway in a beautiful location!

"We stayed at the Malia Bree for an extended family vacation and it was the perfect place for a quiet getaway. Great central location to explore Volcanoes, Kohala and Hilo. The house is well equipped and was always a great place to come back to in the evenings after a day spent exploring the island. Thank you, Lyndy for your hospitality and offering us this great escape!!"

  • Delight in a tropical Paradise, close to town and out in nature

"Oh my, not sure there are enough words to express our gratitude and delight for our stay in the magical River House, and the gracious generosity of the owners, Mozela and Glenn, in accommodating special needs we had during our visit. The home was built when there was so much creative attention given to details, that we felt like we were staying in an art piece, not just a well built home. In addition there is attention given to details by the owners that added to our ease and enjoyment, while helping us feel at home away from home. It is quiet and feels private and spacious. Having a river by your home is almost unheard of on the Big Island. This magical river rises up out of the lava, flows for a little over a half of a mile, and disappears back into the lava. Watching the sun dancing on the water and listening to its song was both refreshing and mesmerizing--we enjoyed beginning our day down by the river!. This is a great place for people who desire to be close to town and in a natural setting!"

  • Lovely relaxing stay

"Lovely little hideaway not far off the beaten path. This was our first stay in a VRBO property and we loved it. We stayed in 2 other resort properties while in HI and this was our favorite lodging. The cottage is a nice mixture of quaint and upscale spa. It is very spacious. The bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and sitting area are all sizeable. The front porch also has a nice swing to relax on. While you could sleep up to 6 I think this is perfect for a family of 4. There is an upstairs loft with a futon that would be nice for an older child (though I would not put younger ones up there because they would have to climb a ladder). The setting is also lovely. After turning off the highway and driving for a few minutes you feel are in the country. At night the frogs serenade you to sleep. Also, you will be visited by the owner's dogs. If you are a dog lover, you will be in heaven. If you are not a dog lover (I am not) you will be by the time you leave. Bunny is one of the cutest, spunkiest little things I have ever seen. The only downsides to this property (and there are always downsides) is that light sleepers might be bothered by the frogs. A pair of earplugs (which every light sleeper should travel with) would take care of things. I myself am a light sleeper and was not bothered by the frogs. The roosters also crow in the morning but they did not bother me. Most folks will be awake anyways because of the time difference with the mainland. I would return and stay in this property in a heart beat. Amazing value for the price."
