  • Glorious

"A tru taste of old Hilo. Quiet, comfortable, very down home. If you are a fine china and tablecloth person this is not for you. If you like to listen to the frogs while you take your shower you will be right at home. This place is a jewel and Megan is the perfect jeweler."

  • Close to Everything

"We arrived on the Big Island right after Hurricane Iselle had made land fall over Kapoho, where we had planned to stay for the week and we were unable to use the rental we had booked. So on to plan B and the house on Hilo Bay. The owner was very accommodating and gracious allowing us to book last minute. It was pretty muggy because of the remnants of the hurricane, but every room had fans to keep the house cool. Nights were quite comfortable. I will say that the house was very well appointed, everything you could ever need - including coffee grinder, pots/pans, etc. Plenty of silverware, mugs, glasses, and dishes. Very impressed! I've stayed at several private rentals and can say that this was by far the best equipped. It was also very clean and the owners gave explicit instructions about how to take care of the place, even the ants. We really appreciated having the instructions because it just helped with taking care of things and respecting the owners' property. The beds were also made with good quality linens when we arrived and there were plenty of towels. The location on the water was really nice as was having the deck with great views of the bay. However, it was also near the port and there was some heavy equipment and industrial activities nearby. Quite a bit of activity during the day but very very quiet in the evening, so I would say it's really not much of an impact. The best part was that it was pretty close to everything and a perfect home base for staying on the Big Island. We were minutes from many restaurants and stores. Near Rainbow Falls, Richardsons Beach. I would definitely stay there again - the owners were very easy to work with and we very much enjoyed our stay."

  • Comfortable Place

"We stayed here for 2 weeks from Jan 2 thru Jan 16, 2015. We found the first floor one bedroom apartment well stocked and clean, but most of all very comfortable. We used it as our base camp to see the entire island; with the new saddle highway now completed, even the west side of the island is only about 1.5 hours away. There were some good restaurants close by in Pahoa and several more in Hilo. We did cook some meals in and found the kitchen very well equipped. Jim and Kepi are very knowledgeable about the entire island and are very helpful if you have any questions. There was free snorkel gear and portable chairs available if you need them. If you don't want to stay in a "cookie cutter" hotel or condo, than this place is for you! We loved to sit out on our lanai and kick back in Kepi's tropical garden after a long day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this place and would recommend it highly to a friend."
