"the owners of this wonderful place housed our entire family of eleven & was so accommodating to making sure our family had EVERYTHING that was needed & went beyond themselves. TO have a place that was cozy, clean and homey is one thing, but to have such beautiful people to come back to the room to, were like family to us. Thank you kindly to Megan & Jasper. Better than hotel life!!"

"We spent here 10 nights/days at the condo around New Years Eve. The condo was the perfect accomodation related to our planned activities around the volcano. Everything at the condo was as described, the cleaning and all the ammenities fulfilled our expectations. The pool was closed due to renovations works at the backside of the building but this was not really an issue to us. Hopefully we will return soon.
Thanks and best regards from Austria!"

"Hale Hamakua is a wonderful place. Very roomy. we were two parents, our son and his children 23 and 21. everyone had a bed room. You need a car to stay here. We had a van and we used it to cover the whole island. Everything we wanted to see was on the Hilo side and at the volcanos (which erupted a week after we left). The grandkids went all the way around the island. We had no interest in Kona, otherwise we did it all, The zipline was fabulous (for the kids!). Be sure and go all around the bay (south east) In Hilo. The water pump is a noise problem. I have already suggested they isolate the pipe and filters from the structure with rubber. It is a good pump that kept up with all the showers going at once. This was our second trip. The management group was excellent with good instructions. We found the house first try. We would go again and I hope we will. Jim"

"Hilo Hale is conveniently located about 10 minutes drive from downtown Hilo, and close to the KTA grocery store and Prince Kuhio mall. At the same time, it is set in a large garden in a quiet and safe neighbourhood.
The house is spacious, clean and comfortable, as well as light and bright. With plenty of windows to open for a through breeze, the lack of air conditioning is not an issue. The kitchen is rather old-fashioned, but functional with the usual appliances in good working order. No oven and no dishwasher is a bit of a shame in an otherwise well equipped house, but with a toaster oven and the huge old porcelain sink we did fine. The cookware was good and there were a few staples waiting for us, but surprisingly no foil, plastic wrap, or ziplock bags.
Washer and dryer are fine, although located outside and under the kitchen in a very low-ceilinged space where anyone over 5’2 would have to stoop. Laundry detergent was supplied, but nothing else.
It was lovely to have a bathtub, not only a shower, in a nice bathroom. The one bathroom was enough for the two of us, but for four people there could be a bit of a traffic jam.
The location is an excellent base for trips to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, to Pahoa and Puna, to the string of beaches along Kalanianaole Avenue, to the Hamakua coast, and is also quite handy to the new Saddle Road."
