  • Beautiful, Clean, and Highly Recommended

"My husband and I visited last month with our two children, ages 10 & 16. This was our first trip to the Big Island, and we were absolutely thrilled when we arrived at this beautiful home. It was just like the pictures, and exactly as described. Had fun swimming during our down time, and playing games (provided by the homeowner) on the lanai in the evening. Very well maintained and CLEAN (which is a big deal to me…I consider myself VERY picky when it comes to a clean hotel). We stayed for 3 nights while exploring Volcanoes National Park, which was a very easy drive from this location. In fact, everything about this place was easy…from booking, to finding the home, to communicating with the property manager. I would absolutely return, and definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to stay on the Hilo side of the island. The only thing that could be considered a "downside" to some (but not to us)! is that it's not close to anything (restaurants, shopping, etc). It's probably a good 20-30 minute drive to most places, and a bit farther to the volcanoes. The other thing to consider is that the main living area, master bedroom, kitchen, are all on the second floor, so if you have trouble walking up stairs I would probably not rent this home."

  • Excellent Snorkeling Place

"We stayed 4 days and fell in love with the place. Location is great, just across the street from the tidepools. The cottage is very clean, kitchen is well stocked with cooking gear and condiments, the gas grill was a plus. Greatly appreciated the snorkel gear, mats and coolers, beach towels that were available for use. The bed was very comfortable. The nights were serenaded by birds, frogs etc.Just loved it. Snorkeling here was SOOOOOOO much better than the Na Pali Coast in Kauai . Highly recommend IKI HONU."

  • Hawaii stay near Hilo

"We stayed at the beach house for 5 days the end of Aug 2014. This was our favorite part of our stay in Hawaii. The area was lush and tropical, and everything I envisioned when arriving on Hawaii (it was our 1st visit). We could see and hear the ocean a block away and feel the cool ocean breezes. The house was in a small subdivision of homes, but we felt like we were secluded. There were tall tropical trees surrounding the house for privacy. The wrap around porch was refreshingly cool in the evening with a grill, 2 tables and chairs and a hammock. The rental is even bigger in person than the pictures show. The kitchen, living room, and dining area were all open air. It felt like you were outside with the windows on all 3 walls. There was a small single air conditioner unit in the dining/living room area that we didn't even have to use. All of the three sided windows in the living room area could be left open even when raining, because of the generous lanai overhang. There were large floor fans that we moved into the bedrooms at night for an extra breeze. There were plenty of board games, books for entertainment and bikes in the lower garage area. One afternoon, we just chilled at the house watching local Hawaii news on the cable tv. If we wanted to cool off, the ocean was just a block away. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need for home cooked meals. We had ice from the ice maker, there was a dishwasher, all kinds of pots, pans, dishware, etc. In fact, one night we cooked steaks on the grill, and ate outside on the porch. I felt like royalty. The master bedroom was spacious with its own private 2 sink vanity. It was on one side of the house and the other 2 bedrooms on the other side with their own shared bath. The other bedrooms were a bit smaller but still plenty roomy. There was plenty of storage for luggage and clothes. I liked the general location of the rental because it was far enough away from town to feel "away from it all" but close enough to be convenient to get groceries, shop or do tourist events (like ziplinine, helicopter rides, farmers market). The landlord was very helpful with tidbits about local attractions and upcoming events. He told us about local swimming spots like Okanakaha Beach Park (just past the ice cream shop on the right) going towards Hilo. The ponds were shallower and warmer (good for the non-swimmers in our group). I would highly recommend this rental to future vacationers."

Hilo Travel Tips

Hilo Lodging for Big Island Relaxation

On the Island of Hawaii, you will find Big Island vacation rentals to suit you in the Hilo District. The quaint, historic city, dating back to 1100 AD, sits on the curve of Hilo Bay. It is a lush green area with an array of historic sites contained within the city. Once famous for sugar cane production, the falling market and two horrific tsunamis mean the area around your Hilo lodging choice is now a thriving and relaxed tourist location. Hilo condos are the best choices for independent travelers seeking to create unique vacation experiences.

Hilo Lodging for Volcanic Beauty All around You

The reason for Hawaii’s unique beauty is its volcanic make-up. Big Island vacation rentals are ideally situated to explore some of these natural wonders. One of the areas that best graphically demonstrates this is the Nanawale Forest Reserve where, centuries ago, a flow of lava hit a path of wet O’hia trees. The lava then cooled, leaving vertical, hollow tubes of lava where the trees once stood. Now from Hilo condos, hikers can walk the park to see these natural wonders. Also at the Reserve is Aimakapa Fish Pond, home to many rare birds, a habitat for local stilt and coot and a breeding ground for pied-billed grebe. Hilo lodging is an ideal location for bird-watching and taking in the sights of this area.

Hilo Condos for Relaxation and Rainforest Beauty

The uniqueness of Hawaii does not stop with the volcanic wonders on the doorstep of Big Island vacation rentals. Also exclusive to the Island is the USA’s only tropical Rainforest Zoo. The Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo, close to Hilo condos, is home to over 60 animals including a rare white Bengal tiger. Getting back to nature is easy in your Hilo lodging choice.

Big Island Vacation Rentals Are in Beautiful Locations

Nature-lovers will also enjoy a visit to Nani Mau Gardens, close to most Hilo lodging choices. The garden boasts a collection of specimens of every flowering plant native to the Islands. It is also home to one of the world’s finest collections of orchids. These Big Island vacation rentals are ideal to visit Nani Mau, meaning “forever beautiful,” where you can appreciate how plants are a vital part of Hawaiian culture. One more visit for renters of Hilo condos will no doubt be the Imiloa Astronomy Center with its exhibits and shows about the culture, history and astronomy of this beautiful place.
