"We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house that is right in the heart of Hilo. We were amazed at how quiet it was because we were just a few minutes from downtown on a fairly busy street. Amazed that we didn't need the air conditioning, open windows provided wonderful cross breeze. We have stayed in many vacation rentals and this is the best stocked kitchen we have seen to date. Absolutely everything we needed was at our finger tips. Beds and furniture were very comfortable. We would like to see just a few more soaps and paper products supplied, otherwise it was perfect. Any questions or issues were addressed right away. would recommend this house to everyone and will most likely try to rent it again on our next trek to the Big Island."

"We recently stayed here for a week with our 3 children (1,2 & 13) and can not wait to come back. We made so many memories swimming everyday in the pool and playing games on the beautiful deck! The location is also amazing. Hilo was an easy 20 min drive but we actually spent more time exploring some amazing spots in the other direction (near Pahoa) like Ahalanui Beach Park, Champagne Pond, Kapaho Tide Pools. The house is much closer to all of these awesome must see Big Island spots than Hilo which made it so convenient for our little ones and their napping schedules. The house is perfect for families with children, the pool is fenced in and the yard is so lush and beautiful. The owners Jack and Tonya are so nice and welcoming gave great suggestions on nearby sites to see. Tonya even brought over fresh fruit from their mango tree. We will definitely be coming back to the Big Island and staying at this beautiful house again. It is definitely home away from home and we would recommend this house to anyone wanting to see the beautiful big island of Hawaii."

"* Location/View: The Lai Nani grounds are very well maintained. The entrance walk features some lovely gardens, and then down the hill towards the living spaces there is a gazebo and a great view of the ocean. They have clearly put a lot of effort into the property and it shows. As you've probably heard, the Northeast side of the island get a lot of rain, and we definitely found that to be true during our stay. Finally, the resort itself is fairly isolated - probably about 15 minutes from Hilo or any other town. This is either a good thing or not depending on what you want so just be aware.
* Interior: My first impression was "wow" - the bungalows have high ceilings, and a clean, sleek design style. Be careful about leaving food or dirty utensils laying in the sink - we found that the bugs were quick to come out. I suspect this is more a problem with the region rather than this specific unit - there is a lot of lush vegetation and rain, and so there's probably a lot more bugs too!
* Sleeping Experience: The blinds closed enough for the room to be "pretty" dark. The mattress was fairly comfortable but it creaked really loudly whenever we moved which made it difficult to sleep.
* TV and Internet: The TV was a nice flatscreen, and the internet was easy to set up and fairly fast."

"Hilo Hale is conveniently located about 10 minutes drive from downtown Hilo, and close to the KTA grocery store and Prince Kuhio mall. At the same time, it is set in a large garden in a quiet and safe neighbourhood.
The house is spacious, clean and comfortable, as well as light and bright. With plenty of windows to open for a through breeze, the lack of air conditioning is not an issue. The kitchen is rather old-fashioned, but functional with the usual appliances in good working order. No oven and no dishwasher is a bit of a shame in an otherwise well equipped house, but with a toaster oven and the huge old porcelain sink we did fine. The cookware was good and there were a few staples waiting for us, but surprisingly no foil, plastic wrap, or ziplock bags.
Washer and dryer are fine, although located outside and under the kitchen in a very low-ceilinged space where anyone over 5’2 would have to stoop. Laundry detergent was supplied, but nothing else.
It was lovely to have a bathtub, not only a shower, in a nice bathroom. The one bathroom was enough for the two of us, but for four people there could be a bit of a traffic jam.
The location is an excellent base for trips to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, to Pahoa and Puna, to the string of beaches along Kalanianaole Avenue, to the Hamakua coast, and is also quite handy to the new Saddle Road."
