  • Hula and Adventures for Four at Paradise by the Sea

"This was the best accommodations we've ever had on this side of the Big Island. The guest house was roomy for four with 2 baths and kitchen, in a tropical setting with ocean view, and close to sights and activities. Location is ideal for relaxation and homebase for adventures up and down the coast. We came to Hilo to attend the Merrie Monarch Festival but we also managed to squeeze in trips to the Mauna Kea summit at sunset, Volcanoes National Park, Akaka Falls + Honomu, nearby beaches, swimming with the turtles at Carlsmith and of course local cuisine. We miss the coqui lullabies already. My daughter recorded the coquis (and birds in the rainforest) to remind her of the sounds of the island. We hope to come back again in the future. Mahalo Sandy and Bob for sharing the house with us."

  • This is THE PLACE to stay!!!

"Why spend your Hawaii vacation in a cramped up hotel room and fighting the crowds, when you can take your whole family and spend your time at a private home with lots of room right on the ocean? This is the place to stay! We so much enjoyed our time and our stay here. The home has everything you need to feel at home. You can't beat having ocean front views from all of the bedrooms and letting the waves put you to sleep. And it is so nice to be able to swim in the pool or lounge in the hottub with the ocean just feet away. Even though it was the end of the whale season, we were able see one as he/she jumped out of the water. The location of the house allows you to be only 12 miles from Hilo, and not far drives north of Hilo to the waterfalls and scenic drives, and also a short drive to Volcanos National Park. While in the Puna district, you can drive the coastline for breathtaking views of the coast and beaches while you drive through the tropical forest. For something closer to the house, there are several bicycles that you can use and take a nice ride to the local shoreline parks and beaches. This house is really amazing and I promise you will love it too. Barbara and Jack will make sure you are right at home! Thank you Barbara and Jack for our wonderful stay. We will definitely be coming back here to stay!"

  • Very quiet and relaxing

"We found the cottage exactly as pictured. The house is situated on a dead end street and we only saw 3 cars pass in 7 night stay. If you want to cook on a stove choose elsewhere. But for us we were out exploring the island and eating at all the wonderful restaurants so we had no use for a stove. The house is clean. The Hilo side of the island does get rain everyday. It comes and goes quickly and during our stay it mainly rained in the night. Due to the constant moisture (over 100 inches of rain a year) there are mold issues in the shower. Speaking of the showers they are roomy and very luxurious. I wouldn't recommend this house for 2 couples, but a family of 4 it would work great. There is no privacy except for the bathroom. One must have a car due to it's location. The local (within walking distance) shops are closed more than open. The bakery is not very good! The coffee shop doesn't open until 8am. Try Moonstruck in Hilo for French pastries and Sombats in Hilo for Thai. Both worth trying more than once. It seems the good restrauants have limited open hours so check yelp for the times they are open. Both are worth multiple visits!!!"

  • Hilo with a view

"Great view. Whale watching from the balcony with 5min drive to downtown Hilo. Nothing like sleeping to the sound of ocean waves and waking to watch the sunrise over the ocean from your lanai. We bought fresh Mahi Mahi from the fish market and grilled it on the grill and ate it with fresh fruit and vegetables from the farmers market. All the tastes, sites and sounds that you want from a Hawaii experience"
