  • Queen Suite

"We arrived very late and our host & hostess just couldn't be nicer and more welcoming even at that late hour. The view of the Pacific is SPECTACULAR, just open your front door! Also a lovely and large pool is just a few steps away. The Queen Suite is large, airy, bright and comfortable. A fully tiled bath and an efficient kitchenette makes en suite living a breeze. The Owners are about as friendly and as accommodating as you favorite relatives, maybe more so! They have a lovely large room in the main house where they play board games and chat with guests late into the night. Whether you are looking for a base from which to visit the sights near Hilo or are looking for a quiet place to rest, this is the ONE!"

  • Beautiful private home

"Everything was exactly as pictured and expected, including the charming and authentic ofuro bath. The kitchen is nicely appointed. There are few "left-over" spices and such from previous guests, which is slightly unusual, so be sure to stock up on your fave items on the way in. I suggest going to the mega KTA store, which is pretty much across from the airport. The house is located about 15 minutes from Hilo town, in a nice residential neighborhood standing on a hill, far enough from neighbors to feel secluded and with an exceptional view. We didn't lack for anything, and the sounds of the many birds, the evening's coqui symphony, and the many geckos kept us thoroughly entertained. Cable channels are sparse, but there is a stack of movies and DVD player. Upstairs bedrooms (Queen beds) are comfy and airy with ceiling fans to cut the heat, the downstairs bedroom has two twins for the kids. Not sure what I'd do if I had small children, as sleeping them downstairs wouldn't be prudent, but it's a nice private hideaway for older kids. Furnishings were comfortable and plentiful. We do wish there had been an actual sofa to lounge on, which would have made visiting with guests more comfortable, but overall we were just fine. The pool is simply wonderful! Not overly chlorinated, the water is the perfect temperature to swim day or night (though it can feel a tad chilly in the evening and when it rains). Just big enough to swim "sprints", I was able to do my usual lap swimming, so so so happy! Overall this home is such a relaxing, beautiful, comfortable place to be we actually spent a lot of time hanging out instead of doing the mad dashes to everywhere else. Things not to miss: Poi balls on Saturdays on the road in from Hilo. 4-mile beach and Richardson's beach on Kamehameha St. where I had an intimate meeting with an enormous honu (sea turtle). The Saturday and Wednesday mega Farmer's Market in Hilo. Buy some of Wes's Menehune Jams -- they are amazing!!! The drive through Puna -- go down to the volcanic tide pools (bring your water slippahs or you will cut your feet up and don't forget snorkel gear!) Of the many visits to the islands, this may be the best. I haven't even left the island yet, and I'm already planning my next trip -- and I will be staying here!"

  • Beautifully laid out house

"We were spoiled with this was lovely and accommodated our needs perfectly. We were a family of 6 traveling with ages 9-90. We all found the house easy to live in and gorgeous and even better than that were the owners! They attended to our every need and we felt like we were staying in a home, which it is. Hilo is very attractive and easy to get around from this location. We could even see the fireworks in the bay from a couple of blocks away. If you are looking to be in a homey, well appointed atmosphere with wonderful owners, within easy walking distance to downtown Hilo, I would choose this house first!"
