  • Vacation in Paradise

"We loved the house. Although a long drive to Hilo (thanks in part to construction), there is plenty to do and see in the Puna area. Keeau is close and has a good grocery store, natural food store, hardware store plus a McDonald's if you need one (ick). Plus a good fresh food market...smaller than Hilo but still a good one. Pahoa has a bigger health food store, Natural Pantry, that is GREAT! Be sure to drive out to the end of Hwy 132 to see the beaches, Isaac Hale is great for watching surfers, and at Kalapana, you can see the palm trees sprouting EVERYWHERE out of the old lava flows. And don't forget to walk to the end of the street the house is on (south, I think?)...It is a great place to walk across the lava rocks and explore tide pools and sit in the sun and watch the HUGE waves hit. Trips to Hilo, if planned around morning and evening rush hours, are great since there is so much to do in Hilo. And the people are so friendly everywhere! From here, trips all around the island are easy. So much to do and so little time to do it. It was WONDERFUL to have a comfortable and beautiful home base to start from. And going to sleep with the crashing waves was delightful. Next time though we'll wait til whale season. Thank you Richard!"

  • Great place!

"We stayed here 4 nights before heading out to Kona. The house was absolutely beautiful, clean, and well kept. We knew it was going to be a beautiful home and we were still impressed with how well designed it was and how beautiful it's been maintained. We ate in every day: breakfast and dinner and the kitchen was pretty well equipped though the dish washer can be replaced and the knives should be replaced with something better. We loved the location of the house, very secluded and view of the ocean was absolutely amazing. We loved hearing the waves and voice of the insects. We would stay here again and highly recommend it. Beware that there's no access to the beach at the house and there isn't really any nice beaches that we could find (with similar quality to Hapuna Beach or Mauna Kea Beach) in Hilo. It took us about 20 minutes to go into Hilo downtown for shopping. Highly recommend the farmer market if interested in exotic/tropical fruits."

  • Great Place to stay near Hilo

"This is our second visit to the Pu'u Moi cottage. It was great seeing the hosts Steve and Keala again. If you are thinking of a relaxing a beautiful place to stay in Hawaii this would be it. Definitely would stay here again. Mahalo Nui Loa!"

  • One unforgettable holiday

"We rented Uli Kai to meet up with our far flung family and spend our Golden Wedding there together. We were not disappointed. The house was easily found thanks to the instructions sent by the owner and was wonderfully situated with easy access to the nearby, picturesque, lava covered shoreline where we would go in the mornings and watch the turtles play in the waves. The house itself easily accommodated all ten of us with adequate privacy. The kitchen, with immediate outside access to the car park, was particularly well equipped, clean and convenient for dining either at the adjacent table or on the screened balcony. There was little noise from the odd car which passed and the fenced garden with its own lava flow, planted out with orchids and other tropical flowers was a delight. The pool and jacuzzi were added options for relaxing and were of particular joy to the youngsters aged eight to sixteen, amusing them for hours on end. We did not use the TV once. We hope life affords us the opportunity one day to spend another holiday there."
