  • Hakalau Haven

"My entire family came over to Hawaii to celebrate my Son's wedding and Hakalau Haven was the perfect Haven to house all of us. It comfortably fit all 15 of us and even provided a pack and play for our little 1 year old. This will definitely be one of our most memorable family vacation! Starr was very accommodating getting us settled and allowing us a late check out! Thank you for the warm hospitality!"

  • Conveniently located luxurious sanctuary by the sea!

"To say we found peace and renewal in a dramatic island setting is understatement. This terrific home is private without being isolated. Visitors can relax in the warmth of a finely crafted, high quality natural wood interior with many special touches. It's super well equipped, with everything from kitchen tools to snorkeling gear, bikes and more. Everything is high quality. Everything works! A guide and resource book for visitors explains clearly and completely how to navigate the technology (cableTV, Netflix, internet, more), what to do in emergencies, who to call for support, where to eat, shop, play, sight see! The pristine pool and hot tub overlooking a lava bluff above the Pacific Ocean are a treat day and night. The home is convenient to many off-the-beaten-path Big Island adventures, including the historic, exotic, magical Red Road. It's an easy drive to Hilo, where we especially enjoyed our time at the Big Island Academy of Massage, Rainbow Falls, Suisan's very fine fresh fish market, farmers' market and a variety of restaurants. Nearby Pahoa also offers good restaurants and resources. An hour's drive will take you through a rain forest to the wonders of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. For a rare look at native Hawaiian heritage, go north to Waipi'o Valley and take the 4 Wheel drive tour. If you are really lucky, Douglas will be your guide! We've spent time in many vacation rentals by oceans..the Pacific in northern California; the Atlantic in North and South Carolina and Georgia, the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, and two here in Hawaii. Without question, this house is our favorite! We are discussing returning to the Big Island simply to spend time here once again!"

  • A privilege to stay here!

"We had a blast on our trip to the big island! What a wonderful place to finally be able to see and experience. Our stay at this house was better than we were expecting. The pictures didn't seem to do justice and noticed that right when we stepped onto the property. The porches were our favorite part. Being on a 5 hour difference we woke up and watched the sunrise every morning over the Hilo bay with Kona coffee and fresh fruit. It was amazing! This house without a doubt has the best location on the bay! Hands down. We enjoyed walking to the farmers market and picking up fresh food and gifts and eating at the many awesome cafes. Everything we ate in Hilo was top notch! It really felt like a privilege to stay at this house with all the history and getting the honor to meet Pudding!! She was a highlight of our trip. She was so nice to us. We traveled for 15 hours and showed up at the house and she greeted us with soup, beer and some amazing stories. If and when we come back we will schedule our trip dates around the availability of this house. Much love to the family for opening up their house to us! MAHALO!!"

  • More than we expected! What a value!

"I have to thank Ben and Vicky for their utmost hospitality. Our family of four stayed with them for two weeks and left feeling like family. They asked thoughtful questions about our family and provided beds for everyone thinking of each person. The room was clean with nice sized bathroom and kitchen/dining area. Beautiful views from the deck towards the ocean and on the other side of the room was a beautiful view up the mountain. We were treated to tropical smoothies and information about the area. I highly recommend staying here. We were watching our budget and we were delighted to have found such a quality rental. Mahalo Ben and Vicky!"
