"The location of this rental surrounded by lush tropical trees and plenty of space was spectacular. You'd be hard pressed to find anything else like this rental, it was particularly special. The hosts also provided everything we needed including snorkel equipment (never went snorkeling), coolers and a well equipped kitchen. The lemon tree was extremely fruitful and I enjoyed using them in just about everything. The cottage is in the Wood Valley of the KA'U region with many coffee and macadamia nut farms, a quiet area of Hawaii without a tourist scene. We really enjoyed Punalu'u black sand beach nearby which was easy to get to and had this amazing contrast of colors along with huge sea turtles in the tide pools and sometimes found hanging out on the beach. We also liked going to a town just south of the Punalu'u called Naalehu where there was a Wednesday farmers market (tiny but useful) and a coffee truck called 'Flyin' Hawaiian' with delicious KA'U region coffee. They'd put out a few tables and chairs and we'd enjoy cold brew or hot coffee and home baked pastry while chatting with the locals who were very friendly and happy to offer advice. Volcanoes national park is just 22 miles north of the cottage, another easy trip to the park for hiking and also to the town of Volcano which has many artist studios and the best Thai food truck (TUK Tuk) ever! Hilo would be the place to get supplies and bigger grocery shopping about and hour+ away and we found a great wine store with reasonable prices called Grapes, the owner likes french style wines. We were told that Hawaii prices are exhorbanent but coming from The San Francisco Bay area we really didn't notice anything too egregious...also, we weren't in high tourist areas. We did venture farther to Kona for some snorkeling and to explore that side, however there's plenty to do nearby the cottage. If you want an alternative experience that is local and to stay in a quiet place for respite and gorgeous beauty all around, this is a lovely spot."

"Turtle Hut studio was perfect for me and my husbands recent trip to Hawaii! The studio is located within a golf course within a 5 minute walk to the beach. The outdoor patio overlooks the golf course with ocean views in the near distance. The house is extremely well appointed for meal preparation including a regular refrigerator, convection microwave and stovetop. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very clean! The last best thing about Turtle Hut is the owner, Barbara! She is a generous person who try to make all her visitors feel welcomed ! Mahalo Barbara! We really enjoyed our stay!"

"We are shortly returned from our stay in this lovely condo - what a perfect spot! I have been coming to Hawaii - and Colony One, where this condo is located - for years. So far, this unit is my favorite condo there. Renting a condo is always a gamble - you never know what you're going to get - but this place was clean, roomy, and charming, with lots of local island touches. We cooked most of our own meals during our stay, so we appreciated the fully-stocked kitchen and the barbecue area by the pool, where we spent several hours grilling and making friends with other visitors.
The location can't be beat - nearby beaches and Volcano National Park are both an easy drive away, and must-sees like Pt of Refuge, Hilo, and the Kona waterfront all make great day trips. If you want to stay close to home, you can visit the gorgeous black sand beach, swim in the pool (and hot tub set in volcanic rock), golf, or take one of the many nearby hikes and beaches. This is also an amazing spot for sea turtles - we saw nine during 30-40 minutes snorkeling in the water right off the black sand beach! I highly recommend this place for a quiet getaway or any adventurous souls looking to explore the Big Island!"
