  • Great location.

"Lovely condo, excellent location for a few days as a base of operations to explore the south end of the big island. 25 miles from South Point and green sand beaches, 25 miles from Volcanoes national park and right on Punalu'u black sand beach. Beautiful views off the lanai of the golf course and the ocean. Breakfast on the lanai with visits by brightly colored tropical birds each morning, great way to start your day. You can't beat this for the price. The only negative would be the pest control, the giant spider in the kitchen when we arrived and a little brown gecko (we named him Edgar) who came to watch TV with us each night in the living room. They did come and spray the day we were leaving so hopefully that took care of the spider, but hey, it's the tropics you've got to expect SOME houseguests."

  • The PERFECT place to get away from the daily grind!!

"From start to finish, Hale Aloha Aina absolutely perfect. The cottage was beautifully decorated, and we honestly felt at home as soon as we walked in. There was so much detail everywhere, inside and outside the cottage, and every time I moved from room to room I noticed different artistic decor I hadn't noticed before. There was plenty of space for all the things my fiancé and I had packed for our 10 day stay on the island, and the kitchen was full of every item we needed to make meals AND store them-- the Tupperware was an extremely helpful detail we hadn't even thought about until we needed to use some! I can also not say enough about the cleanliness of the cottage. It really felt like we were the first people to have ever stayed there-- it was THAT clean! The area outside the cottage was equally maintained. There had been a storm in the days preceding our arrival, and although it was evident along the road to get to the cottage, the yard area was seemingly untouched! It was also so secluded and peaceful that we had a little trouble leaving the property on our first day there! We did some exploring and both agreed that the limes we found were the freshest and tastiest limes we had ever eaten. I can also not stress enough how amazing Missy and Tom were as hosts. We arrived to the Big Island in the evening and had some difficulty finding the cottage in the dark. Even with the time difference, Missy and Tom were extremely helpful in getting us there, giving us extra directions and doing their best to make sure we made it safe and sound! The cottage, in the daytime, is really easy to find, so I would definitely take Missy's suggestion to new visitors to arrive when it's still light out. It's a beautiful drive in, and I recommend to anyone staying there to start your day off with a run or walk out to the Temple and back-- there are so many beautiful things you miss in a car! (For reference, it's about 2 miles from the property to the temple.) Our overall experience at Hale Aloha Aina definitely can't be beat, and I'll absolutely stay there again the next time I'm on the Big Island!"

  • Amazing vacation spot!

"We are shortly returned from our stay in this lovely condo - what a perfect spot! I have been coming to Hawaii - and Colony One, where this condo is located - for years. So far, this unit is my favorite condo there. Renting a condo is always a gamble - you never know what you're going to get - but this place was clean, roomy, and charming, with lots of local island touches. We cooked most of our own meals during our stay, so we appreciated the fully-stocked kitchen and the barbecue area by the pool, where we spent several hours grilling and making friends with other visitors. The location can't be beat - nearby beaches and Volcano National Park are both an easy drive away, and must-sees like Pt of Refuge, Hilo, and the Kona waterfront all make great day trips. If you want to stay close to home, you can visit the gorgeous black sand beach, swim in the pool (and hot tub set in volcanic rock), golf, or take one of the many nearby hikes and beaches. This is also an amazing spot for sea turtles - we saw nine during 30-40 minutes snorkeling in the water right off the black sand beach! I highly recommend this place for a quiet getaway or any adventurous souls looking to explore the Big Island!"

  • "Rustic" Hawai'i at its best!!

"We stayed at this house for 4 nights, splitting our Big Island vacation between here and a big chain resort up in Waikaloa Beach. This was the perfect balance! After the sterile but luxe resort with fancy pool, this homey, peaceful, quiet and rugged setting gave us a totally different flavor. The house is spacious, clean and welcoming. The owners are super friendly and helpful, but allowed us privacy at the same time. The property is perfect for families who love animals and nature... we ate fruit off the trees outside our door and bought yummy treats at the farm stand (Mac/Belgian Chocolate butter with the baby apple bananas!...yummmm!). The lambs and goats eat from your hands and the baby lambs were adorable! Turkeys gobble you awake each morning. The house is well equipped... tons of kids' movies to watch each night. We took day trips to the black beach, the volcanos and the Ho'okena beach (you can rent sea kayaks and snorkel equipment there). All great. The sound of the wind in the trees surrounding the property is mesmerizing! And the view of the ocean from the 2nd story deck is beautiful! We didn't see any bugs at all by the way, except for a few tiny ants and daddy longlegs. But we're not too worried about stuff like that... Overall, a very, very relaxing perfect stay! Mahalo!!"
