  • Very good stay - a few improvements recommended

"Spent a week here in March, and enjoyed the beautiful, lush yard and the house itself. Beds are really comfortable and there are two stand-alone showers and one bathtub-shower upstairs with a great view from the window. The house was really clean when we arrived but someone came to fix one of the faulty smoke detectors during our stay and dragged dirt and leaves throughout the house with their shoes. There is a gate closing off the entrance to the property from the street, and although we would close it each morning upon leaving the house, we would usually find it open upon our return later in the day (don't know what's up with that - it was also open when we arrived, contrary to instructions received from the owner). The house is not in Naalehu proper but in Waiohinu, a couple of miles past Naalehu when coming from Kona. It is a very quiet area of the Big Island and a good base for exploring South Point and Green Sand Beach. I recommend heading to Gilligan's (a 5-minute drive away) on a Friday or Saturday for a taste of the local life here, with pizza and live music among cheerful locals. On the downside, there are a lot of OLD things in the house that would gain from being replaced. A perfect example is the blankets: too small for the beds and definitely past their prime. The TVs in the house are ancient and cumbersome to operate, with no instructions provided for the guests, and the Wi-Fi network is not secured. Also, although the kitchen is well equipped, we found the fridge door loaded with way too much leftover food from previous guests upon arrival: two jars of mayonnaise, two bottles of sweet chili sauce, two jars of blackberry jam, FOUR jars of peanut butter, and on and on. Someone needs to tidy up that fridge! Finally, although Denise, the owner, was really kind, communication was difficult as she did not seem to receive most of my emails and did not return my phone call when I tried to reach her a few days before my scheduled arrival date."

  • Two retired snowbirds

"Turtle Hut 2 was a great place to spend some time away from the winter snow storms back East. It had all the things a house would need plus some equipment to enjoy the beach. The home was very nicely decorated and the pool facilities are the just what you would think of in Hawaii next to the shore. Just to relax poolside and watch the waves come in and splash against the lava rocks while watching the whales jump was very enjoyable. This place is just a walk away from the black sand beach which is good for snorkeling and seeing the native turtles. The host, Barbara , has taken care of many details that you wouldn't even think of. The grounds are very nicely groomed and the condo was clean. On Monday evenings the is a little optional get together with other condo residents and visitors where you can chat with others poolside while enjoying snacks that everyone brings, This gives you a chance to catch some tips from some of the people who have already visited the area. We liked having the conversations with people from other parts of the globe. We really enjoyed our time there and would be sure to revisit if we were to return to the Big Island. Aloha!"

  • Fully equipped home

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home in a quiet area. The pool is great and the home has anything you could need to make this home away from home"
