  • Great place to explore the island from

"The condo was comfortable, clean and worked great for my family and I to use as a base to explore both sides of the island. It was peaceful, beautiful and relaxing to come back to each day. If you are interested in walking into town and being in town through your stay, this is not the location for you, however, if you like to be out in the countryside and are planning to explore, this location is great."

  • Paradise revisited

"We loved this wonderful home for our two month visit to the Big Island! What did we love about it? In a word, everything! Spacious, well equipped, very clean, wonderful king size bed (three bedrooms, but only two of us), centrally located for our needs, quietness of the area, views of the mountains, ocean, and beautiful sunrises made this the ideal home for our visit. The owners are really nice people and very accommodating. We had great communication and even additional photos before our arrival and provided a list with descriptions of exciting things to do on the island. They even provided beach chairs, snorkel gear, beach towels and anything else needed for the beach. We were here during the winter visits of Humpback whales and blessed with many spectacular viewing opportunities. There are great beaches and hiking opportunities in the immediate area and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just a short drive away with many sights and hikes to enjoy. We really enjoyed two local places to eat and snack, Hana Hou Restaurant with a full and the Punaluu Bakery with great sandwiches, ice cream and malasadas. The central location, which is roughly halfway between Hilo and Kona, enabled us to do several day trips to other parts of the island and we even got in an overnighter in the backcountry of the national park. For us this home was magical and the great value allowed us to do more things than if we had stayed in a resort area. We hope to be able to return in the future."

  • Wonderful

"It isn't just the peaceful location with everything you need. We knew before we left that Barb was concerned for our stay. We had spent a week on Waikiki (ugh) and flew to Hilo. Barb wanted to know our plans, made adjustments and suggestions and kept us up to date. We arrived in Hilo and she had texted me that the volcano was angry and suggested we go immediately prior to check in. Because of her suggestion, we began three days there learning and watching in awe as Madam Pele put on a show. Barb told us where to shop on arrival and where to eat after a busy day of arriving. As for Turtle bay, we met neighbors who welcomed us. But most of all, we relaxed when there. The ocean sounds and breezes are wonderful. You aren't actually on the beach but the the location is within ear shot and slight viewing. That's plenty for me. We'd sit on the lanai and just tune out. First morning, I walked to the black beach in five minutes and found the green turtles. We'd have breakfast, make sandwiches for our daily treks and return, maybe to the pool or hot tub then to eat at a local place or even cook in one night. There wasn't anything we wanted for. Sadly the end of our trip was in Kona. It was nice with a little more hustle bustle but we kept saying how peaceful Turtle Hut was. Whenever we return to the Big Island, we will stay at Turtle Hut. Thanks Barb. We have been using VRBO for more than 10 years and this is at the top of our list."

  • Beautiful Home

"This was a great property. My wife and I stayed here 4 days with our boys 9 and 12. The house had everything we needed, was clean and in good shape. In particular, the kitchen was incredibly well stocked with every little small appliance you could want. The kids enjoyed the pool and we made use of the outdoor grill. Liz, the property manager, was nice, local and available for questions. We left an item there that she was nice enough to box up and ship back to us. The payment requirement through wire transfer was unique, but worked out without issue."
