  • What a great place!!!!

"Having never rented a house on vacation before, we didn't know what to expect. We were extremely glad we decided to give it a try. The rental process was straight forward. Lizzy, the property manager was great and provided us with tips and info and was always available. The house has everything you could want and more. Our parents were travelling with us. They are both in their 80's and physically challenged, so finding a place that was easily accessible for them was not easy. We are happy to say that the house was perfect for them, too. Don't hesitate to rent this if you are looking for a great place to spend time on the big island."

  • Good place to crash after exploring the southern side of the Big Island.

"Title says it all. There are two cabins behind the Hana Hou Restaurant in Naalehu, which are great places to crash after snorkeling, Punalu'u black sand beach, and Volcano National Park. Breakfast is quite tasty at Hana Hou so plan accordingly."

  • Shangri-la

"Very comfortable home in peaceful setting with great views. Plentiful fruit on the trees was a big bonus. The house was very clean and also convenient to explore the south side of the island - must visit the southernmost bakery (a real treat). The hillside setting/views can't be beat. Aaron was very helpful and courteous. The sheep/goats were an added attraction. Great value for the money and would not hesitate to stay again if planning to visit the south side. Even though it rained every evening, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Naalehu Travel Tips

Naalehu Vacation Homes Put You Next to Beauty and Danger

For those who travel to The Big Island, volcanoes are part and parcel with the entire experience. Naalehu, the southernmost city in the United States, means "volcanic ash" and the surrounding locale does not fail to deliver on that promise. Vacationing in a Naalehu lodging means seeing hot lava flow into the ocean and hiking in the lush scenery made possible by the nutrient rich volcanic soil. Big Island vacation rentals are the best bet for surrounding yourself with the rich beauty of a tropical paradise.

Spelunk in Empty Lava Tubes while Vacationing in Naalehu

Lava tubes abound on The Big Island of Hawaii. For those who don't know, lava tubes are large chambers that carry lava to the surface. If they are dormant they can be explored. Many people believe the first Polynesians to come to Hawaii lived in the lava tubes around Naalehu. The Kula Kai caverns, within ten miles of Naalehu vacation homes, are open to both casual tourists and experienced spelunkers. A word of warning to potential cave explorers: the caves are within a gated community but a quick call ahead will get you the gate code and access to the area. Once inside, check in at the office, acquire some gear, and start caving!

Photograph the Glory of an Active Volcano

Naalehu lodging also puts you within a short drive of witnessing the beauty and sheer force of nature; the Lava Viewing area of Pahoa allows tourists to see hot lava flow directly into the ocean. Leave your Naalehu vacation home and take a short hour drive up the gorgeous coast. It is recommended to get there an hour before sundown to best appreciate the beauty of this unique experience. Bring your camera and capture the beauty forever.
