"The location of this rental surrounded by lush tropical trees and plenty of space was spectacular. You'd be hard pressed to find anything else like this rental, it was particularly special. The hosts also provided everything we needed including snorkel equipment (never went snorkeling), coolers and a well equipped kitchen. The lemon tree was extremely fruitful and I enjoyed using them in just about everything. The cottage is in the Wood Valley of the KA'U region with many coffee and macadamia nut farms, a quiet area of Hawaii without a tourist scene. We really enjoyed Punalu'u black sand beach nearby which was easy to get to and had this amazing contrast of colors along with huge sea turtles in the tide pools and sometimes found hanging out on the beach. We also liked going to a town just south of the Punalu'u called Naalehu where there was a Wednesday farmers market (tiny but useful) and a coffee truck called 'Flyin' Hawaiian' with delicious KA'U region coffee. They'd put out a few tables and chairs and we'd enjoy cold brew or hot coffee and home baked pastry while chatting with the locals who were very friendly and happy to offer advice. Volcanoes national park is just 22 miles north of the cottage, another easy trip to the park for hiking and also to the town of Volcano which has many artist studios and the best Thai food truck (TUK Tuk) ever! Hilo would be the place to get supplies and bigger grocery shopping about and hour+ away and we found a great wine store with reasonable prices called Grapes, the owner likes french style wines. We were told that Hawaii prices are exhorbanent but coming from The San Francisco Bay area we really didn't notice anything too egregious...also, we weren't in high tourist areas. We did venture farther to Kona for some snorkeling and to explore that side, however there's plenty to do nearby the cottage. If you want an alternative experience that is local and to stay in a quiet place for respite and gorgeous beauty all around, this is a lovely spot."

"Very peaceful spot and so relaxing, both the house and the gardens, the minute we walked in the door. We also didn't come close to turning on the TV and being a group of adults found the house to be plenty spacious for us all - no tripping over each other and lots of wonderful laughs. So neat to be able to all sit for dinner around the spacious table. Sandra is just lovely, made us feel really welcome and we enjoyed a fire pit night - sharing stories under the stars. Mahalo Sandra!"

"This was a great property. My wife and I stayed here 4 days with our boys 9 and 12. The house had everything we needed, was clean and in good shape. In particular, the kitchen was incredibly well stocked with every little small appliance you could want. The kids enjoyed the pool and we made use of the outdoor grill. Liz, the property manager, was nice, local and available for questions. We left an item there that she was nice enough to box up and ship back to us. The payment requirement through wire transfer was unique, but worked out without issue."

What can I say? Barny and Elizabeth were great hosts! The house is awesome and so relaxing. We stayed for 4 nights and they were very accommodating to our late arrival and early leave time. The location is so quiet and peaceful, much needed after the hustle and bustle of Oahu. Staying here actually felt like being on vacation, yet the major attractions like the green sand beach, black sand beach and volcanoes are all within easy driving distance! If we get the opportunity to go back to the Big Island, we would definitely stay here again!"
