  • Wonderful!

"We stayed here during early January, 2014. We loved being here in this unit and at this location. We have no complaints except that we were not able to stay longer. The owners are easy to work with, and we plan to return again. We enjoyed snorkeling at the Black Sand Beach which is within walking distance of the condo. You are in for a bit of a drive from Hilo or Kona when flying in but it is worth it. The pool is wonderful. Sue and Peter obviously take great pride in providing a first rate experience for all their guests."

  • A thoroughly enjoyable rental experience

"We (two couples) stayed at this rental home for one full week and found it a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of towns we could have chosen. Its location close to the southern tip gave us easy access to either side of the Big Island and we could plan accordingly, not having to retrace driving miles, making this a time saver for us. The quiet and solitude of the lava fields were unique and serene, the 360 degree clear view of the area enjoyable, giving us a sense of weather for each day, and making us feel like we were in our own little corner of the world. We liked its proximity to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in particular as we visited that several times. It was a pleasant drive from there on into Hilo where we visited the Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden, a plant enthusiast must, and had a great dinner at Cafe Pesto on the bay. We were able to combine a trip to the Punalu'u Black Sand Beach with one of our visits to the Volcanoes park on one day. Another day we drove easily from the house to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau Historic Park south of Kona which was a short drive or walk from Two Step beach, a great place for beginner snorkelers. I liked that we could take a quick drive from the house to the small Ocean View market right on Highway 11 for groceries, although we found cheaper gas right around the corner at Kahuku Country Market. People were friendly and helpful at both places. The drive to drop off our trash and get drinking water took planning, but there was always something to look at along the way. Had we wanted to cook a gourmet meal the house's kitchen and all of its counter space, utensils, pans, and convenience would have made that easy. One couple enjoyed the hot tub several nights and there was room for all of us to spread out in the evenings and unload cameras or plot out the next day's adventures, with windows open and overhead fans to keep us cool. It was great not to have the humidity at the house we experienced in the Kona area. The little Gold Dust geckos that lived in the lanai area were like little colorful mascots. Mark was very helpful by phone with a couple of simple problems we had when we first got there. Mark and Jo Dean provided clear written instructions about the house and the renting process. The place was spotless, beautiful, and comfortable. All four of us enjoyed staying there and we would do so again."

  • By far the nicest rental we stayed at (of 3 islands visited!)

"This was by far the nicest rental we stayed at during our honeymoon (in all of the 3 islands we visited)! The cottage itself was one of the highlights of the trip! We only wish we had budgeted more time on the Big Island to include some time for relaxation at the cottage. Anne and David were amazing hosts, offering a full tour of the grounds (unbelievably beautiful) and fresh fruits from their garden. After our initial meet and greet, they disappeared and left us with complete privacy for the duration of our stay. The pictures do not do this place justice. Not only was it beautifully decorated and well stocked, but it's also impeccably clean. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway for a honeymoon, we could not recommend this enough."

  • Amazing vacation spot!

"We are shortly returned from our stay in this lovely condo - what a perfect spot! I have been coming to Hawaii - and Colony One, where this condo is located - for years. So far, this unit is my favorite condo there. Renting a condo is always a gamble - you never know what you're going to get - but this place was clean, roomy, and charming, with lots of local island touches. We cooked most of our own meals during our stay, so we appreciated the fully-stocked kitchen and the barbecue area by the pool, where we spent several hours grilling and making friends with other visitors. The location can't be beat - nearby beaches and Volcano National Park are both an easy drive away, and must-sees like Pt of Refuge, Hilo, and the Kona waterfront all make great day trips. If you want to stay close to home, you can visit the gorgeous black sand beach, swim in the pool (and hot tub set in volcanic rock), golf, or take one of the many nearby hikes and beaches. This is also an amazing spot for sea turtles - we saw nine during 30-40 minutes snorkeling in the water right off the black sand beach! I highly recommend this place for a quiet getaway or any adventurous souls looking to explore the Big Island!"
