Recent Ka'u District reviews

  • Gorgeous house with very private and quiet location!

"We stayed here from May25, 2014 until June 30, 2014 while we were looking for a long term rental, and thoroughly enjoyed this home. It is so beautiful and we especially loved the kitchen, the vaulted wood beam ceilings, and glass door stand up showers. Very nice breeze throughout the day and night with the windows open. Had everything we needed and we were very comfortable there. Raul was easy to work with and very hospitable to us and made it an easy stay. If you want to explore the south part of the island, then this is the place to be. It is on the south tip and you can go east or west to Hilo or Kona. It is near South Point green sand beaches which is awesome. Volcano National Park isn't too far either. Ka'u has the macadamia nut and Ka'u coffee tasting that is pretty cool too. There is a pretty cool view of the ocean on clear days so you still feel and remember that you are in Hawaii. Huge lanai that is comfortable and keeps you dry when it is raining. We used the yoga mats and exercised on the lanai everyday with 5 of us, so it is very big! Thanks again Raul for allowing us to stay in your home and we hope others will find this review useful as well. Semper Fi brother and God bless!"

  • Beautiful, quiet week retreat

"This property is amazing. The focal point of the property is the pool with the golf course beyond. Large sliding doors lead directly to the pool from the living area and the kitchen. Nice sized bedrooms. We enjoyed this quiet side of the island. Day trips to The Volcano and South Point. This house is very well maintained. Liz, the property manager, is a local resident and very knowledgable about the area and activites."

  • Excellent place, good environment, interesting location.

"I don't like to write reviews. It is simply because most things are not worth my time writing about. However, I feel compelled to write about this place. This is a wonderful place. The apartment has many amenities that you will not find anywhere else. Plus it is really clean and owners are super helpful. The environment is nice. It is close to the black beach. I always tried to walk there in the afternoon to enjoy the nice view. However, the location is very interesting. If you are looking for convenience and close to city, then this is not for you and the owners warned me about it ahead. The closest supermarket is 1.5 hours away. Kona, which has many nice beaches, is 2.5 hours away. However, the volcano is only 30 minutes away, which is very nice. If you are looking for adventure, this is the place for you. There is no shortage of places to go to have fun. So, do consider that before booking. However, with that being said, I had a great time and you will most likely like this too. PS: You will need a car, trust me."

  • Night above the clouds!

"Thank you for sharing your adventure home with us! We had a fantastic time!! We only stayed one night but it was a cool adventure. We had been staying further north on the island and wanted to do a green sands beach day. The yurt helped to break up the driving and added an exotic glamping experience. I borrowed "glamping" from a previous reviewer. It's true, you feel like you are outside but are well protected and warm for the night. It rained at sunset. We stayed dry inside and the propane stove kept us toasty. After the rain cleared, so did the sky and the stars were super clear and bright. Take warm clothes for star gazing. It is quite brisk outside at night. We had a fantastic lunch at the local Cafe (not sure the name) but was right next to Dj's pizza place where we got pizza and scrumptious desserts for supper. Paired with a bottle of wine that we packed and a couple cocktails for the men, we had nice meal in that night. Everyone loved it!! Plan to pick up food in town, ocean view, for some great local cuisine and make sure to take a pair of warmer pj's for a comfortable and memorable night in the yurt. Thank you again!!"
