"We stayed in the unit next to this one. It was so peaceful and clean. Wish we could rent it on a monthly basis. Would recommend to our friends."

  • In a Word: Magic

"Opened my eyes each morning to a beautiful sunrise greeting us while still lying in bed. Made great local coffee and sat in the living room to take in the spectacular view before chatting with Bill and Darlene to plan our day. However, it was always hard to leave the Hobbit House since it enveloped us in a world of fantasy: a "floating" tub overlooking the view through gorgeous stained glass windows, a large walk-in shower with floor to ceiling glass, branches strung with tiny lights hanging from the wood ceiling, beautifully handcrafted wood throughout, little hidden surprises if you take the time to look, and most importantly, Bill and Darlene! They both add so much to the experience because they took the risk to create a life truly their own and are so willing to share it with you. They are two of the most creative, passionate and interesting people you will meet. They are also very warm, welcoming hosts who will make you feel at home. Now, the ride up the hill is a bit challenging the first time, but no need for a 4x4. The property is in a secluded area and off the grid, but all this adds to a sense of adventure! It is in a great location for exploring the fantastic Volcanos Nat Park, black (head further back to see the lovely pond with water lilies) and green sand beaches, stunning Hamakua Coast, snorkeling beaches, spiritually strong City of Refuge, South Point and more. Don't forget to take advantage of the opportunity to slow down and simply chat with those in the area. If you're not looking for a typical tourist trip, you can't go wrong. It's the kind of travel experience that will stay with you in surprising ways. All our best to Darlene and Bill!"

  • Very relaxing, nice condo

"What a beautiful Condo for the price! great view and wonderful amenities. 5 minute walk to the black sand beach. Turtles, turtles, turtles, ability to walk for 2 miles on the beach. Very friendly people at the property. had a few maintenance issues that need to be looked into. would recommend if these can be fixed."

  • Clean, small, nice location

"This condo was exactly what we needed, an efficient, clean, secure place from which to explore the south and east sides of Hawaii. Excellent access to Volcanoes National Park, about 90 minutes to Hilo one way. The black sand beach is very cool, but the surf very rough. I managed to get in a snorkel with the turtles anyway :) The property was private, the neighbors pleasant, our only gripe might be the laundry, which I think was $4/ load in quarters only, and didn't have (or sell) detergent or a coin machine. Overall, we enjoyed our stay."
