"The location of this rental surrounded by lush tropical trees and plenty of space was spectacular. You'd be hard pressed to find anything else like this rental, it was particularly special. The hosts also provided everything we needed including snorkel equipment (never went snorkeling), coolers and a well equipped kitchen. The lemon tree was extremely fruitful and I enjoyed using them in just about everything. The cottage is in the Wood Valley of the KA'U region with many coffee and macadamia nut farms, a quiet area of Hawaii without a tourist scene. We really enjoyed Punalu'u black sand beach nearby which was easy to get to and had this amazing contrast of colors along with huge sea turtles in the tide pools and sometimes found hanging out on the beach. We also liked going to a town just south of the Punalu'u called Naalehu where there was a Wednesday farmers market (tiny but useful) and a coffee truck called 'Flyin' Hawaiian' with delicious KA'U region coffee. They'd put out a few tables and chairs and we'd enjoy cold brew or hot coffee and home baked pastry while chatting with the locals who were very friendly and happy to offer advice. Volcanoes national park is just 22 miles north of the cottage, another easy trip to the park for hiking and also to the town of Volcano which has many artist studios and the best Thai food truck (TUK Tuk) ever! Hilo would be the place to get supplies and bigger grocery shopping about and hour+ away and we found a great wine store with reasonable prices called Grapes, the owner likes french style wines. We were told that Hawaii prices are exhorbanent but coming from The San Francisco Bay area we really didn't notice anything too egregious...also, we weren't in high tourist areas. We did venture farther to Kona for some snorkeling and to explore that side, however there's plenty to do nearby the cottage. If you want an alternative experience that is local and to stay in a quiet place for respite and gorgeous beauty all around, this is a lovely spot."

"Our perfect little getaway to Big Island! Great location for those who wants to stay away from crowds. Rocky beach is only 5 min walk form the front door. Famous black sand beach where you can see turtles - 15 min walk. A cliff diving point and Green sand beach is around 35-40 min away. To drive off road all the way down to that beach, rent a Jeep Wrangler or similar - we had so much fun! Volcano park is only 40 min drive. No shops around so I would recommend to do food shopping in Hilo or Kailua-Kona.
Condo is cozy, well-maintained and very clean; fully equipped kitchen with newer appliances, recently renovated bathroom and comfy mattress in a bedroom.
We had only two issues during our stay which was responded very quickly. We emailed the owner next day we arrived about a sofa bed (probably previous guests jumped on it and the sofa bed got bent and was unstable). There was three of us (3 adults) so we needed it. The guy came in next day and attempted to fix it. He said he probably had to replace some parts but it would take some time and he was going to do it after we leave. Also the fridge was working OK when we came (but there was a thermometer inside), then the temperature inside started to drop and reached around 70th. The guy came in again and told us that he was going to buy a new one after we leave. That was not a big deal, we just put all our food in a freezer :)
Also condo has great amenities!!! Very nice pool and hot tub (restricted hours 8:30 am - 9:00 pm) with beautiful ocean view, two gas grills (grilling must be done by 8:30 pm otherwise a resident manager will come at 8:32 pm and she will make sure you are done by 8:34 pm).
Next time we are definitely going to stay there and we will highly recommend this property to our friends.
Mahalo for the awesome vacation!"

"Reading the reviews of Aina Lani before we left on our trip, my partner and I wondered, “Could this cottage really be as outstanding as all of the reviews say?” Within minutes of our arrival, we knew even the most outstanding reviews could not capture the beauty of this island paradise.
Nestled in to the gorgeous Wood Valley, this secluded cabin has everything we were looking for during our stay on the Big Island: a tranquil setting, a well-stocked kitchen, and easy access to Volcanoes National Park as well as many outstanding day trips (including Green Sand Beach, secluded black sand beaches, and unique snorkeling spots). This beautifully constructed and furnished cottage (combined with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever had the pleasure of sleeping on) provided the perfect home base for our vacation.
But perhaps the most memorable aspect of our stay was our lovely hosts. Anne and David clearly take pride in this cottage. As many reviewers have already commented, Anne and David were always available to answer questions (both before and during our stay), but they also gave us plenty of privacy. Their passion for the Big Island is infectious.
Every evening we looked forward to returning to Aina Lani to relax at the end of our days of Big Island adventures."

"The condo has everything a couple could need and the grounds are very pretty and serene. The pool and hot tub were great. The black sand beach is a short walk away, but to me is not good for much other than to look at with the rocky shore and cold water. I can't give five stars because the view from our particular unit was not spectacular, and an ocean front view was at the very top of my list. You can only see a sliver of the ocean between other condos. Plus the condo is in the middle of nowhere and not for anyone seeking a nightlife in my opinion. We had to drive very long distances to get to places, including even a decent grocery store. But there is some sightseeing nearby and the nearby volcano was a fun visit. Also, I know there are trade winds, but I found the lack of an AC uncomfortable, especially in the evenings on the upper level of the condo. Finally, the condo owner and maintenance staff were very hospitable and kind, making this a fine visit for us. I would recommend for an older couple."
