"I had not been to the Big Island for many years... my last trip to any of the islands was in 2007 on Maui. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to the Big Island and bring my 9 year old daughter and my sister with me this Summer.
We fell in love with the condo when we saw the photos on line and greatly appreciated our super friendly hosts.
Upon arrival we found the condo to be in one of the most beautiful villages on the Kona Coast. This location is very close to the beaches, excellent restaurants, snorkeling, shopping and farmer's markets.
We were impressed with the generous fruit, Kona coffee and other treats left on the kitchen counter for us to enjoy. The cupboards were stocked with most everything anyone would need or want including spices, olive oil and more.
The condo itself was just as beautiful as the photos, and we felt right at home. The beds were very comfortable and the showers with guest sized, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion was a pleasant surprise! The unit is a top floor, corner unit, where we enjoyed watching sunsets, relaxing & dining.
The air conditioning was also a huge bonus! and the beaches close by were beautiful, easy to get to and clean.
The pool was just a short walk from the condo and we found the grounds and the accommodations to be first class.
We stayed a week and would definitely recommend this beautiful Big Island retreat to anyone seeking the perfect location to call "home base" while exploring all that the Big Island has to offer!
Thank you Judith and Brendan for your hospitality and for making sure everything was perfect for our stay.

"Our family spent Easter weekend here, and it was perfect! The home is oceanfront, but offers privacy from beach-goers at Beach 69. A short path from the home leads you into the shallow ocean with a white sandy bottom. We brought our kayak, and were able to get it in and out of the water with ease. Our family also snorkeled and fished - all right in front of the home. We swam with dolphins, manta rays and turtles. And all without worrying about stepping on rocks and wana. It was amazing!
The layout of the home also offered privacy from other guests. The main part of the home includes the master bedroom, but the other three guestrooms all have their own exterior entrances. This was great, as we were traveling with other adult couples. The dining tables outside were great for our morning coffee and evening BBQ's.
The grounds of the home are so relaxing - with green lawns and coconut trees. The hammocks were comfortable and we all took turns taking naps in them.
Another one of my favorite things was that every cabinet and drawer were labeled. This saved me from searching through the kitchen and bathroom trying to find things. I wish every property manager did this - it was much appreciated! Also, the fridge and spice cabinet were stocked with condiments and spices. This was a blessing, because it's hard to remember every little thing.
This home was great for our family, and I can't wait to go back. I only hope I get to stay longer next time!"

"We (two couples) spent a great 11 days at Banyan House in late April 2015. It is a delightful location for a non-resort experience of the Big Island. As others have noted, the house itself is lovely, with pretty much everything you could ask for, and we spent many pleasant mornings and evenings there. It’s within walking distance of Kekaha Kai State Park and a short drive to the Pololu Valley Lookout and its trail down to a black sand beach. The small towns of Kapaau and Hawi are nearby, and we enjoyed the local restaurants, the Saturday farmers’ market, and getting fresh eggs from a small farm close by.
Mike Bailey, the local caretaker, was a great help to us as well, giving us tips on good beaches, places off the beaten path to see, and even hacking open coconuts for us. One evening he screened a movie for us on the side of the small church next door.
We got great weather, with the occasional rain coming in mostly at night, and we spent a lot of time on the lanai just enjoying the breezes, the sound of the breaking waves, the birds, and even the occasional cow or two in the field of tall grass a short distance away. The banyan tree that dominates one side of the yard is truly a wonder.
As for driving, it was about 45 minutes down the Kohala/Kona side to the Mauna Lani and Waikoloa resort areas, and along the way there is a good place to get fresh fish for grilling back at the house. The beautiful drive from Kapaau or Hawi to Waimea takes about 35 to 40 minutes, and you can continue on over to the Hilo side of the island from there."
