  • Happy in Hawi

"My husband and I stayed for 8 nights at the Bamboo Cottage and it was fantastic! Exceeding our expectations from the location and surroundings to the quality of the construction of the cottage and amenities. It was a great home base to tour the beauty of the island. It was private, secluded and quiet. Bamboo swaying in the wind with cows and sheep heard in the distance. It is a very sweet little place. Jennifer and Jeff have thought of everything - fresh coffee and fruit in the kitchen, comfy bed, beach gear for days at the beach, even a washer and dryer! The tour books in the cottage were a wealth of knowledge that lead us on many adventures! We'll be back. We LOVED it!"

  • A great house for groups or families!

"We had a great time staying in this lovely home. There were seven of us (only one couple) and the large house, with multiple rooms and beds really suited our needs. The big backyard, front lanai, and common rooms in the house, as well as the ample kitchen and large dining area provided many options for all our different group activities. The close proximity to Hawi town was convenient for us, and we enjoyed a quick walk to the Saturday farmer's market, along with quick access to Mahukona for early morning snorkel/swims. Kapa'a Beach Park is also a great place to watch sunset. As the trip leader of this group, I would easily recommend this house to any other group travel or workshop/retreat leaders, as well as families. The manager was helpful as we were making our arrangements to come, and also super-helpful while we were there. We loved the character and charm of this old Hawi plantation home and would definitely come again!"

  • We feel so lucky to have lodged here!!!

"When my husband and I started researching where to stay on the Big Island, we didn't have a lot of insight regarding options. We liked what we saw when we found this rental; the pictures, details, and reviews are what drew us in to this property. During correspondence, the owners seemed like our kind of folks. Well, we were right to follow our instincts--it was an awesome place to call "home" during our stay in Hawaii! The cottage is so sweet and comfortable. The property is simply beautiful. And yes, the outdoor shower is such a treat! And the owners are some of the coolest people ever. It was so easy to relax and take in all the beautiful elements surrounding us. As for location, we LOVED that we chose Hawi. There are so many sweet offerings in this part of the Big Island, not to mention the charm of the little town itself. There is a farmer's market right there, too, and we enjoyed many delicious treats and crafts. We feel so grateful and blessed to have landed here!! A superb cocoon wherein to find respite!"

  • Wonderful Place to Stay

"My husband and I, with 7 of our friends, spent two weeks at the Hawi Plantation House, and had the place all to ourselves. I had wanted to stay here for quite some time since I have a love of older historic homes and I love the village of Hawi. It was everything I had hoped it would be. The house was roomy and charming. The bedrooms were very comfortable, with lots of space. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for any meals we prepared, as well as having a charcoal grill that we used often. While most of the bathrooms were older styled, they were charming and very clean. There was also bathrooms for each person/couple as well as 2 1/2 baths and a laundry. The house was just a block away from restaurants and shops and 5 minutes from a small uncrowded beach park. Close by are zipline, horseback riding, & Polulu Valley and more. The pool, pool house and outdoor shower were a huge hit with all of us. There was a game room and exercise room, but none of us spent anytime in them. The house is right in town, but it was very quiet and felt very secluded with all the trees and plants. Breakfast was provided the first morning with lots of fresh fruits, yogurts, bagels & cereals. But since we were the only ones in the house for two weeks, we enjoyed them for several days. Desiree & Debbie made us feel very welcome, but also gave us our privacy. When a hurricane threatened to possibly cancel our flights home, they offered to let us stay at the house until we knew about our flight status and if need be, stay at the house until our flights were rescheduled. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) the storm did not affect our travel plans. The downside to staying at the Hawi Plantation house would have to be that it is a bit of a drive to sights around the island, as it is just about as far north on the island as you can get. But the location was one of the reasons we chose the house. I would recommend staying here for anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing stay away from the crowds. And I'm hoping that we will be back soon."
