A Change of Pace - A Great Place to Stay
"We just returned from spending a week at the Hawi Haven. We had a great time. This is our third trip to Hawaii, the first to the Big Island and Hawi. It was a good change of pace. The town was small and the cottage location was quiet, almost country. The town was two blocks away. We had a large yard, complete with visiting chickens. The house was large. We had more than enough room. We appreciated all the extras: bikes, beach chairs and umbrellas, Dish TV and internet, grill, and almost anything else we needed. The two things that were missing were the furnace and the air conditioning - we didn't need them. We loved having the open windows and having the breeze blow through the house. While Kona is about an hour away, we found many things to explore around Hawi. This house is large enough for a bigger family gathering. We highly recommend it!"

"What a lovely little hideaway this is! Do you dream of living like the Big Island natives? Serendipitously chosen as our second rental during our 9-day, Big Island vacation, we were finally able to wind down and slow down enough to get a really good whiff of aloha. The pluses of staying here are almost too many to list. Our hosts served us a fabulous Puerto Rican Breakfast plate (tastes like ono loco moco, but without gravy and with savory beans instead) at the Saturday Farmer's market, where you can watch local life drift by as you enjoy your meal. Do you like all things organic? Hey...this is your place. We picked up some gluten free rosemary bread here that sent us directly to heaven with no stops in between...and organically grown Kona coffee beans. Yep...there's even a coffee grinder tucked away in your kitchen. If you grow concerned about only having a 1/2-bath, you'll also get equally unconcerned when you discover the secluded 3-way warm water shower in your front yard. Our hosts grow wonderful bananas; extra sweet and with a marvelous lemony tang; all free for the picking. Beautiful, little green birds pecked away at the top of a ripened papaya perched way overhead in a tree. One last peck, the morning of our departure, and the ripened papaya was ours. Oh my....what can I say...never had any papaya that tasted as wonderful as that one. If you are a sushi lover, then you must visit the Sushi Rock restaurant in Hawi...or...if East-West fusion is your thing, perhaps you should try the Bamboo restaurant voted the Big Islands' best several years in a row. Need some ice cream? Try the Tropical Dreams ice cream at the Coffee Mill in Hawi. We were wowed many times over. We hiked the Mo'olikini Heiau and King Kamehameha I birthplace and watched the waves crash along the North Shore, with whales spouting all the while. We saw the Pololu Valley lookout and walked 1/2-way down for an unspeakable view of the valley and North Shore cliffs. We had an incredible tour of Wai'pio Valley (took the Shuttle with Douglas) and had an amazing Vanilla Experience Luncheon and tour with Jim at the Hawaii Vanilla Co. We even caught the 8:00am Sea Quest boat out of Kailua Kona for 4 special hours of snorkeling and seeing the Kona coastline. And all of this from our "home" base in Hawi, this sweet little studio with the sweetest little family you'll ever meet this side of the Mississippi, right next door. Mahalo, Jim and Leah!"

"Essence of Fijian bure; echo of Robinson Crusoe; whiff of Gilligan. Can you see the whales dance like luminous bubbles beneath the rainbow garnish? Can you feel the saffron finches tickle the frangipani? Can you hear Miles Davis performed on a washtub bass?
Experience Marty and Linda's welcoming embrace and you may forsake job and shoes forever. Both the cottage and house are utterly charming."

"Just spent a week in this incredible island getaway. We've never been to this island and spent each day out adventuring. The Botanical Gardens and beaches are a must see. It was so wonderful to have this gorgeous home to come back to each evening. Everything you could need for an incredible vacation is provided by the owners. We spent evenings on the patio playing board games with our two adult children. The birds are incredible and it's so peaceful my husband insisted on sleeping on the patio in one of the recliners."
