  • Peace retreat!

"This place is absolutely beautiful and very's lovely to fall asleep whith the sounds of the crickets and the waves (that you won't see...) Far from the tourists and the noise of the big's also far from the beach if you're coming for swimming, snorkeling or surfing. The Internet connection was poor and the drain of the beautiful outside shower was blocked...little disappointed...but overall we had a great time!"

  • The Gecko House (they were everywhere...loved it!)

"We enjoyed our stay and thought the house and property were very nice. The house could use a little maintenance, but none of the issues were major. The house next door was being renovated, so there was a little construction noise during the day, but it was not very loud. If you are going to buy groceries near by go to Takata, I do not recommend Arakaki. The shops/restaurants in Hawi and Kapa'au were nice, we really enjoyed Kohala Coffee Mill. If you are going souvenir shopping I recommend Pacific Nature at the Queen's Shops in Waikoloa, they had a good selection and the prices were much better than shops closer to the house. Our favorite two beaches were Mauna Kea (they allow public beach access next to the resort) and Hapuna Beach State Park (there's a $5.00 entrance fee.) I hope this info helps any future renters."

  • Delightful Retreat

"We had a lovely time at the Banyan House. The house is delightfully tucked away down a secluded driveway, and we couldn't have been happier with the setting and privacy. The house is clean and comfortable, with a magnificent kitchen, a killer outdoor shower, a stocked closet of beach toys, and endless Lanais. At first we were disappointed with the distance of the ocean view, but we came to enjoy the contrasts of land, water, trees, and sky we could see from the upstairs Lanai. We found the sunny backyard perfect for morning yoga, and spent the evenings eating and talking around the enormous kitchen table. Each morning at the Banyan house brings an absolute cacophony of bird song at dawn. We enjoyed it, but it might be disturbing for some people. The house was ideally located for exploring the wonders of North Kohala. We loved walking the cliffs at Koekea beach park, and the quick access to Pololu Valley and both Kapaau and Hawi town. The drive to the Kohala resort areas and beaches, and up to Waimea wasn't bad. But it was a bit far for trips to Kona, or Hilo/Volcano. We enjoyed being surrounded by the beauty and tropical lushness of North Kohala, but if your vacation plans include the rest of the island, be prepared to spend some time in the car."

  • Charming place with all the amenities of home!

"My sister, daughter, and I spent a wonderful week in this charming home! The place was exactly as the posting and owner explained (well, even better) and definitely exceeded my expectations. The owners are SUPER responsive and I felt like I could ask anything I needed. The home was clean, organized, and had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. The Kapaau and Hawi area were so welcoming and full of friendly people. I felt like I got to see what it'd really be like to live in Hawaii rather than just visiting. The owners gave me plenty of great recommendations (Bamboo Restaurant being one - it was great!) and we stumbled upon plenty of other great finds (Sushi Rock was delicious!). This area of the Big Island is very different - much more jungle/rainy than beachy. It was great for exploring and hiking and seeing a different side of Hawaii. Plus, there are beautiful beaches if you take the scenic drive down the coast. Honestly, I couldn't recommend this place enough. It's everything you look for when renting a vacation home, especially with such friendly, helpful, and accommodating owners!"
