  • Beautiful Space and Gracious Hospitality

"This was a perfect place for our vacation. Beautiful views of the ocean with lots of whales to watch in the morning, or turn around and see the sun come up over Mauna Kea. Two comfortable bedrooms, each with their own bath, a warm pool if you didn't feel like going to the nearby beaches and a hot tub at night to enjoy the starry skies. Our hosts provided a wonderful breakfast -- so much fresh fruit and delicious Kona coffee -- and stocked the mini kitchen with things for our hikes. We were able to explore the entire island from the location and enjoyed the peacefulness of the setting. A great value and truly private."

  • An Exceptional Getaway

"A Big Island retreat! The condo is spacious, high quality and very comfortable. The listing and photos fairly depict the location, condition and amenities. The owners provide a detailed sheet of helpful and accurate information which we used during our stay. A place good for families or a romantic interlude. Just bring your bags. Almost everything is provided. There are stores nearby for groceries, sun block and beverages. Its a short drive from Kona airport. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are just a stone's throw away. You have ready access to a gorgeous golf course, large pool and shoreline restaurant. The day trip to see the only active volcano in the world is worth it. Go at dusk. A spectacular sight. We will be returning. We will recommend this listing to family and friends. We loved it and you will too!"

  • Can’t Wait to Return

"What a great pleasure it was to be able to vacation in Halii Kai 12A. We would agree with the previous review in that this unit rates a “10”! This is truly “the” very best appointed condo we have stayed in during many years of vacationing and we constantly found ourselves saying the Peggy and Doug have thought of everything! We had the experience of being in the condo as hurricane Iselle approached and made landfall on the Big Island (which had absolutely no impact in Waikoloa). However, the pending hurricane afforded us the opportunity to meet Doug and their son, who stopped by the condo in person to offer their assistance in moving patio furniture inside in advance of the storm. I can’t say enough about what nice people they are! Peggy’s responsiveness is truly amazing. As we were booking the unit, leading up to and throughout our stay, she was constantly available to answer any and all questions. The instructions that Peggy provided in advance of our visit helped make the process of check in very smooth and easy. Halii Kai is a gated community and, after a long series of flights, the last thing that you would want to encounter is a hassle in getting into the community and the unit. Prior to our visit Peggy provided a temporary access code to enter Halii Kai. Then, upon check-in we were provided electronic key cards for access to the community and the clubhouse/pool area throughout our stay. Likewise, in advance of our visit, Peggy provided an access code for the unit (which saved the hassle of carrying around a set of keys). The whole process was smooth and very well explained. The location is perfect (great views of the ocean and sunsets) and very near the pool. This is a second floor unit and is very quiet (with no unit above). While the minimal number of steps leading up to the condo could be an issue for some, we think that the views from the unit are well worth it. (If a ground floor unit is preferred, we know that Peggy and Doug also offer a ground floor unit at Halii Kai.) There seems to have been no item overlooked in stocking the unit (plenty of coffee, and a very well equipped kitchen with things that other condos don’t include – like condiments, salt, pepper, spices, flour, sugar, etc. and storage containers, saran and foil wrap). We used the cooler and freezer packs in the unit to pack food for trips to the opposite side of the island and up to Mauna Kea. We will indeed be repeat customers and can't wait to return!"

  • They thought of everything!

"Our family of four has thoroughly enjoyed our first stay on the Big Island. Dave and Nancy have created such a welcoming, thoughtful and relaxing property here at the Fairways. We have rented vacation homes for years via VRBO in various locations and have never had such a comfortable stay. They have thought of everything! The last thing we want to think about after a long day of travel with two young children is purchasing laundry detergent, sandwich bags, cooking spices, shampoo (because I forgot to pack it!), etc. It was such a relaxing treat to open the door and find these additions to the home. My children loved the Fairways pool and the Mauna Lani Beach Club - such beautiful and calm waters! We spent our days snorkeling, swimming and even rented stand up paddle boards right at the water's edge. It was amazing. Our beach trips were made even better thanks to the soft beach towels, children's sand toys and boogie boards. Typically, we will eat out several times, if not every day, while on vacation. Thanks to Dave and Nancy's wonderfully equipped kitchen, we enjoyed using the outdoor grill and eating the majority of our meals on the lanai. Our last day on the island, both my children asked "when can we come back to Dave and Nancy's house?" We hope to return soon and will definitely recommend this property to our friends and family. Thank you Dave and Nancy for a wonderful vacation!"

Kawaihae Travel Tips

Explore Hawaii from Kawaihae Condos

Hawaii is pretty much the definition of the ideal vacation with its tropical climate, boutiful beaches, lush vegetation, and its exotic culture. Nowhere is this more evident than on the "Big Island" of Hawaii. Kawaihae, in the north west Kohala Coast region of the island, is a great example of the great history and culture of the island state. Historically a port and fishing town, it has over the years developed into a tourist attraction due to its unique characteristics. Kawaihae house rentals also reflect some of its old world sensibilities, offering oceanside locations in cozy, comfortable layouts.

Exploring the World of Kawaihae

Kawaihae itself is small, and the population is sparse. However, it boasts a rich history as a harbor town and fishing hot spot, and elements of this history can be seen and experienced today. Kawaihae condos are a short distance from the ocean, where scuba diving and surfing are popular pastimes. You'll find cozy small town shops and restaurants, like the popular Kohala Pacific Diner, and experience the classic Hawaiian life. You can learn more about Hawaiian history at Puukohola National Historic Park. If you want to see more sights, it's only a short drive into the resort cities.

Get More Out of Your Vacation

Kawaihae house rentals can really enhance your vacation experience. Many people never feel totally comfortable while on vacation because ordinary hotels just don't offer the same level of comfort travelers are accustomed to. With Kohala Coast vacation rentals, you get your choice of bedrooms and lodging accomodations. You also have choices such as private bedrooms, often with separate televisions, a full kitchen in which to prepare meals, a dedicated living area, and more. You may also have access to special amenities like a gym or pool. The hardest part may be leaving Kawaihae condos to enjoy the rest of the vacation!
