  • Great Home for a Family Reunion

"We joined our two sons and their families, a total of nine of us, for a fantastic family reunion of ten days at Mauna Kea South Fairways #20. Everything was ready to go. Lots of towels, coffee filters and spices for the barbeque. You do need to bring hair dryers. We stopped at Costco and loaded up and then stopped at the Foodland Farms grocery at Mauna Lani. Lots of refrigerator space including the one in the garage. Registration at Mauna Kea for the amenities program was easy and it gave us an additional two access cards plus a key card to the fitness center. The temperature was easy to control. we used the a/c in the bedrooms and then opened all the sliding doors at night for a gentle breeze. Most of our meals were outside. Parking for two vehicles is not a problem. The pool is really the high point of the house. It was used every day. We would not recommend it for children that don't know how to swim as it doesn't have much shallow space. Our grandkids are water babies and played in it virtually all day. We used the boogie boards and other stuff at the beach. Easy to park at Mauna Kea - take the first right hand turn, swipe the access card and park near that end. Take the path on the right side of the parking lot down past the tennis center. We were there for the 4th of July. Some went to the beach and some stayed at the house. Fireworks visible by the pool at the house! Every evening we watched the sunset and voted on how beautiful it was. Usually either a 9 or 10. Activities we did included Golf at Waikoloa Village (great price and wonderful course), horseback riding at Paniolo Stables, day trip down to the Place of Refuge and shopping in Kona, snorkel cruise on the Fairwind II to the Capt Cook monument and a day trip to the Volcano Nat Park. We used the Saddle road and found it to be in really great shape. Most of it has been realigned and repaved. Only the last 10 miles above Hilo are still narrow and curvy. Drive up past Waikoloa Village, turn right and follow the signs. Make sure you have plenty of gas as there is nothing up there. When we checked out we refueled at Costco. Best price by far. Again, highly recommended!"

  • What a great spot!

"Our family was so pleased with this rental. A couple of highlights: > Very short walk to the hotel/beach > Large. Tons of space in each bedroom with a huge bathroom suite for each. Huge living room. > Plunge Pool - Was consistently warm and a great spot to relax in the afternoons. The kids loved it. > Very clean > Bennett was super responsive and greeted us with an awesome fruit array as he walked us through the property. Would definitely rent again!"

  • Great home, view and beach access

"The place was great for our family of 5. We had a nice view out to the ocean and the golf course and a putting green to practice on our own. There was a nice supply of beach toys that made the experience more enjoyable. All around a great stay and we will look forward to coming back again."

  • Exceeded our expectations!

"This was our 3rd time to the Big Island, and 2nd time with our family (3 kids under age 10). We brought one set of grandparents too, so there were 7 of us total. We enjoyed working with the condo owner Bill; he was very helpful, responsive, and accommodating. His onsite manager is a real pleasure to work with. The condo is very spacious and furnished beautifully. The kitchen was very well equipped and we used the grill on the lanai several times. Parking was limited and tight but adequate. The amenity center with a beautiful pool and hot tub, work out room and community room was very close by. It was quiet, comfortable, and the VIEW! AMAZING!! The proximity to the Hapuna and Mauna Kea Beaches was exactly what we were after. We paid the extra fee (arranged through the condo owner but paid directly to the hotel) to have access to the hotel pools and towel service. Totally worth it. The Mauna Kea Hotel's poolside and ocean lounge chairs get "saved" early in the day which is frustrating. That didn't seem to be the case at the Hapuna Beach Hotel though. Stop at Costco right after landing and buy yourself a boogie board. You'll get tons of use out of it if you spend any time at these beaches! The Mauna Kea luau was fun. They don't advertise it much but there is an option to go to just the show and skip dinner. When we compared the dinner + show cost vs. just show, we decided dinner is NOT worth it. The kids were happier eating at the condo and the show was worth every penny. Both the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince Hotels offer a breakfast that is to die for in a setting that is just so beautiful. Casual dining options are expensive and limited near these beaches, which is another reason a condo was a MUST for us this time around with the family along. We considered the Waikaloa Beach/Kolea Condos, Mauna Lani Condos, Private Homes in North Kohala, and others. I am SO GLAD we stayed at Mauna Kea and in this particular unit. It was AWESOME."
