"We discovered Hale Hula and the wonderful hosts, Mike and Cathy, in 2013. We love this place, and have just booked our third trip after staying there in 2013 and 2014. We feel like this is our second home. The condo is spacious, beautifully decorated, and is located just a few steps away from the pool area. During our last visits, among other things, we have gone night SCUBA diving with the Manta Rays (see Jack's Diving Locker), explored the volcano observatory and enjoyed the star gazing there. The private beach has some of the best snorkeling we have found, complete with turtles and multi-colored fish. My wife is not a "beach person", and absolutely loves the pool. Larry McGoff, the resident manager, is incredibly knowledgeable about the area, very accommodating, and just an overall great guy. One word sums up our feelings about this condo - FANTASTIC!"Guest: Larry Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: September 25, 2014View listing
"This property met and exceeded all my expectations. It was located off the 9th hole of the Mauna Lani south course and the contrast of the dark brown lava and the green grass was amazing. The townhouse was beautifully furnished and immaculate. It was a short ride or a very long walk to the beach club and a wonderful sand and snorkeling beach. The pool was very close and relaxing after a long day on the links. We didn't use the patio grill but enjoyed our breakfasts on the lanai. Bruce got us tickets to see a taping of Wheel of Fortune which was very unexpected. Bennett was quick to respond to any request and suggested a taxi driver to pick us up at the airport who transported our luggage as it was difficult to fit 4 suitcases and golf bags in our rental car. We took a tour of the island which gave us an overview of what was there. I recommend a tour to the summit of Mauna Kea to see the stars and experience the difference in climate on the island. If you have a rental car, drive to the Volcano National Park. Do this in the afternoon and stay after sunset to see the glow from the volcano. We played Mauna Lani south course, Wailoloa beach course, and Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea's 3rd hole is one of the most photographed in golf, but be warned, the course is very challenging. Some of the restaurants we enjoyed were Tommy Bahama's, Ruth's Chris Steak House, and Roy's. Lunch at the Waikoloa Golf Course was good too. You can stock up on food, snacks, and drinks at the Foodland in the Shoppes of Mauna Lani. All in all it was a wonderful two weeks. I wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend it to friends and family."Guest: Joyce W. Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: September 30, 2014View listing
"Palm Villas bring us back to Kona year after year. Like last year's post, I research a lot. I'm picky, very picky, and Palm Villas is perfect for our family with three teens. Why Mauna Lani properties? Simple - the Mauna Lani Beach Club access to the private beach with covered cabanas, crystal clear water, an amazing on-site restaurant, stand-up paddle board and canoe rentals and an uncrowded sandy beach where you can take a 7am dip with no one around but a honu and some fish, or watch an evening sunset while floating on your back in warm ocean waters in a cove out of the wind. Why Palm Villas condos versus Golf Villas or any of the other complexes at the Mauna Lani property? - Palm is across the street from the spa. - Palm has 8 buildings to share the pool. Golf Villas has more and pool is more crowded. - Palm pool has never had more than 3 other people in it at any time we've gone. It is bath water warm with stairs in for little kids, 3' depth and 4' depth. Perfect options for all. - Palm his closest to the path to the private Mauna Lani Beach Club and is a 15 minute walk through the lava and koi ponds on a paved walkway. - Palm is closest to the Mauna Lani shopping complex (grocery store, Tommy Bahama Grill, ...) and you can easily walk the two blocks home after a successful happy hour or for a morning coffee. - And a big reason we chose Palm for both visits was our unit's owners, who were great to work with. Pool: Open 8am - 9pm it is the perfect size, always empty, clean and has a very hot, hot tub and waterfall with a bench behind it to sit. Location: We love it up north. We drive south to Alii and Kona for the farmers markets and cooked almost every meal in the well stocked units. The outdoor BBQs are clean and perfect with an overhead fan keeping you cool as you sip drinks in the evening. This location has a full-sized washer/dryer and the upper lanai has gliding chairs, which I loved. Downstairs lanai is the bbq and outdoor table. Free wi-fi. A small shed filled with umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, snorkels, noodles and anything you'd need. Both units have extensive DVD collections, many games for the kids to play, bookcases with books and truly it is just like home."Guest: Tammy T. "We recently stayed in the condo for 7 days and it made our first trip to the Big Island very memorable. The condo has everything you need including full outdoor beach accessories and coolers. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms fully stocked. The owner of the condo is very responsive to any questions regarding your stay. We would definitely stay in this condo again and hope to soon!"Guest: charles l. Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: September 8, 2014View listing
